Rough is ROUGH
Greens are great very fast but excellent condition. Fairways are impeccable also. Rough is absolutely horrendous and doesn't take you to miss the fairway by much very hard to get the ball out of alot of the rough 3 playing partners and me struggled anytime we missed the fairway could do with abit cut back in my personal opinion. Love scenes
Bank Holiday at Carnalea
Beautiful views over Belfast Lough, this course was well presented. Greens were not consistent however with some having more grass on them than others.
Pace of play was slow with golf etiquette not full adheres to by some members on the course to avoid slow play.
Still a beautiful course and an enjoyable round in the sunshine at Carnalea.
Changed the layout
The course now starts on what was previously the 5th hole.. it was in good condition and we really got the weather, play was slow but I've played worse.. there were very few parking spaces and they were extremely tight with most cars over their given white lines, making it virtually impossible to park. I arrived in good tme but the guy in the pro shop answered a phone fall and left me standing waiting on him, and by the time I got to the tee, the next four ball were already standing, warming up and gave no respect to us teeing off... thankfully I'm not easily distracted when playing and still managed to make a tremendous drive up the centre of the fairway, maybe not the case for someone else
Course
It should have been on your web site that you can't hit on fairway but you can drive a buggy round. The ninth hole wasn't playing so that also should be mentioned.
course not in the best condition for this time of year. There was also no information from staff about.one.of the holes closed. We had to rely on other players on the course telling us. Although the cost was.not expensive it was not really value for money.
Overall poor experience
When we arrived at the course we were told mats only on the fairways or place on rough which was fair enough because the course was soft. They did forget to mention that the 9th hole was closed and when we arrived at the 9th hole there was no signage at all. We actually thought the group in front had forgot to put the flag in, it wasn't until we arrived at the green we realised. After the round we went into the club to get something to eat and were refused food as it is a private club. Nice course crap staff!!!
Disappointing
Very disappointing to pay full price for a round with 4 holes closed and temporary greens on most of the rest.
Had we been informed if these conditions in advance , we would not have paid £17 each for this experience
Obviously, this would have been a much more positive experience in the summer but playing conditions should be declared with the possibility of postponing the booking until the course is at its best.
Super course
Super course. Well worth playing even in the winter with some temporary greens in place it held up really well..and there is some beautiful par 3s. Staff & patrons all very friendly too. Looking forward to playing in the summer.
Top Class Course.
Fantastic course overall. Pace on the greens. Fairways perfect. Bunkers tricky. Tee Boxes top notch. Can Lovely cold pint in the clubhouse after to finish a brilliant day. Highly Recommend!
Waiting and waiting and waiting
I’ve played this course a number of times over the last 4 weeks. I’m on holiday and am out mostly on my own. Today two four balls held up my round so much so I walked of after the 10th. Which I couldn’t play due to it being used by kids. The four ball in front played the 10th and I skipped on through to play through on the 11th. Was just about to tee off and the four ball that had been in front kicked off about me playing through. I had been behind them waiting and waiting from the 3rd. I always let single players play through but these guys weren’t playing the etiquette game here. This is only one of 5 or 6 incidents over the last four weeks and I will probably not play this course again this year and stick to Helen’s bay, rockmount and castlereagh hills where people let single players play through.
Robbery
Played this course hundreds of times, but today I was pretty disgusted. Pay £26 only to be told when I turned up to rent a matt for £10 or pick up ball and play from the rough! Needless to say I did neither as I paid my money and was never told this prior to arriving so was never going to happen. Best hole on course, the 9th was also closed for play. Pretty disgusted in all honesty
Very poor Golf Now should notify if course isn't fully open
I played with a friend today who only gets out once every 5 weeks
To say I was disappointed is an understatement when we arrived the guy in the pro shop who was very friendly and honest told us there was 2 temporary greens and 4 holes closed if we'd been notified of this before paying and arriving we would never have booked it.
Carnalea isn't to blame for this I put this totally on Golf now this is the first time I've used it and think they should let players know before they book and spend their hard earned money that they're not going to actually get a full game of golf.
I'll think twice before I book on golf now again
3 holes not even in play and 2 tempory greens a waste of my time and money . Why does golfnow not tell you about this before because if I knew would have gone somewhere else.
Another course I've played over last 30 years, have played it in all kinds of conditions from winter to summer and blowing a gale.
Great greens to putt on all year round
Give it a go, you won't be disappointed with course and the views.
