Crescent Pointe Golf Club
About
Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

Fun course
The layout is fun and challenging. The course does have a few quirky holes, but I think that’s what makes it fun to play .
Tough shape, good price!
They had a rough winter and the place was in tough shape. Good layout if they would put a dollar or two into the maintenance! Just one man’s opinion
Rain the night before left the course soggy.
Heavy rain night before meant that the course was pretty wet the following morning. That having been said the conditions generally were no better than average. Greens were not bad but tees and fairways were in tough shape in places. There were only a few people playing and as a consequence to pace play was quite quick.
This course is worth playing.
Heard this course was in poor condition. Wrong. Course is definitively worth playing. Received emails about a monthly family pass and called to inquire. Never received a callback. Really underwhelming service. Told there were no range balls yet golfers came out after us with range balls. It’s really ignorant to treat guests like second class citizens.
Needs Work
While this course is by far one of the cheaper tracks in the area I'm not sure the "value" for money is there just yet.
In playing the course we could see that there's potential there to have a really nice place. The clubhouse and pro-shop was inviting and the staff that met us upon arrival were friendly and helpful.
Fairways are patchy and sparse even for this time of the year (early March). The greens were slow but consistent and rolled true enough to be able to read a break. The back 9 greens are in rough shape overall though. Tee blocks are quite patchy and it seems like on many holes the scorecard yardages don't match what you're playing as some blocks appear to be temporary in nature to try and improve the regular tee decks.
If I had friends coming to the area to play i couldn't recommend this course to them despite it's potential and relatively low pricing. With some major investment I think the place could be quite good.
The course was in pretty rough shape after a day of rain
It had rained hard the previous day and the fairways and tee boxes were in pretty tough shape. The bunkers had not been cleaned up or raked either. The greens for the most part were OK. The day of play was cool and misty so there were few people out so played 18 in just over three hours.
Good Value
First time playing here as years past reviews were very bad so I didn't bother with it. I had a friend tell me it was improving and I will agree. The staff is very pleasant, clubhouse is very nice. The course has a great layout and very scenic. Course conditions are getting better than I expected although it is still recovering. Tee boxes are well over played but many are being reconditioned. Most of the greens are in good shape but with a few that are battling fungus. All are playable and roll pretty consistently. Overall I think it was a fair value for the money and I will play it again.
Early Spring Conditions
Course was as to be expected for this time of year. Fairways were dormant, tee boxes were a bit rough, but the greens were better than expected. Good beer special and food after the round.
Most unenjoyable round ever
The condition of the course is fine for what it is. They are doing some work on the course which it needs, however, having an almost five hour round is not ok. I was part of a two some and had a four some in front of me. They were still on every tee box when we pulled up, wouldn’t let us play through and there was no marshal out there making sure pace of play was being followed. When I got back to the club house and asked why there was no marshal, I got the response of “what do you want me to do” Your job!! The person telling me this was the starter I’m assuming because he was sitting by the carts when we pulled up and was sitting in almost the same spot when we finished 5 hours later.
Tough day
Tough front nine, hills and water on every hole. Tee boxes tore up but greens were okay.
Rough areas
I guess there are new owners and they are working on conditions. Course conditions varied throughout. Tee boxes were horrible and tree area markers need paint. Red tees were bare wood.
Greens were nice on all holes except 2.
I will give it another try in a few months to see if there's improvement.
Work in Progress
Most reviews seemed rather negative online. We were going to be in Bluffton so decided to try out course after hearing new owners doing lots of improvements. Course is on its way to being much nicer. A few tee boxes closed down for repairs and some other areas having renovations done. Temp/winter grass on greens was fine.
Needs a superintendent
The tee boxes locked any grass, basically just sand. Fairways were almost the same. Some of the greens are nice but they were very inconsistent and other types of grasses were embedded in them. It is a nice layout it just needs a superintendent who knows what to do with the course
