Crescent Pointe Golf Club
About
Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

Progress showing by new owners
Used to play Crescent and sister, Eagle Pointe, every year. Crescent remains an excellent layout with some interesting and challenging holes - as good as most courses down here. But about 8-10 years ago both courses started to show significant neglect [ownership change?] so I stopped coming. Learned that both are under new ownership as of last summer/spring, so decided to try again. Things are looking up!
Now it will take a while to recover the greens, tee boxes, and some other soggy areas that might need a drainage update, but you can tell the new owner[s] are paying attention. It's the little things: clean water in buckets on the driving range, a starter on the first tee to keep things organized, soap and paper towels in the dispensers in the men's locker room. Now this might seem like some piddly stuff, i.e., what about the course? But again, the course will take time to get back in shape -- we're not in growing season now in January anyway. But that those small items are being kept up tells me somebody is keeping an eye on the place. And I don't want to scare anyone off, the course is playable as is, but there's some rough spots throughout. You can see where the work to be done is marked off [some closed tee boxes], GUR in various spots, some CPO on couple par 4's that need to drain better.
Lastly, the course work has begun; 18 green complex completely redone and looked great. So considering the price -- I paid $40 on golfnow for an 11:00 am tee time -- this course is definitely back in my rotation during my 10 week winter in HHI. I play the three Sea Pines courses [yup, Harbour Town] and Hilton Head National. Expect it to get better over the next year or two. Will try Eagle Pointe later in the week and report on that next.
A little rough
Tee boxes were all pretty rough conditions. Mostly no grass and hard mud. Possibly going thru mid season repair. Greens were just ok. Fairways were definitely off season renovations.
However, the green fees were adequate due to conditions.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our golf course. We apologize for the rough conditions of the tee boxes and fairways, as well as the average quality of the greens. We appreciate your understanding of the current state of the course and hope to provide a better experience for you in the future.

Course was in great condition
I have played the course many times and was surprised to find it in the good condition that it was in after a couple days of rain. Some greens could benefit form over seeding. Number 16, which I believe was redone a couple years ago, is again in need of some TLC. But overall, the course proved to bee an excellent value.

Wonderful Trek
Played as a single in the early morning. Ended up being paired with 3 amazing people; Doug, Jon & Paul. Could not have been luckier. They were nervous what I’d think of the course since new owners took it over last season. You can tell the work they’ve put it! Some of the greens were a tad hard from new sodding this year & 2 of the fairways had some light spots, but it was a heck of a course for the price and the semi-private-ness. Would recommend.
Not the greatest…
It is evident that the new owners are putting some money back into the golf course for improvements, however, at the moment, the course is in pretty rough shape. Still a fun track to get out and play. Greens are bumpy and splotchy with burned out and scalped areas. Course can play extremely tough from the back tees
Nice surprise
Played for the first time in 2 years. The lady in the pro-shop was very helpful and nice. Cart guy had my bag on cart when I came out of pro shop.
You can see that new management have put money into the course.
Still needs love but I was pleasantly surprised. Tee boxes were poor. Fairways okay but you have to expect that in January. To be fair we’ve had a cold wet winter. Greens were good. Ball rolled really well. Bunkers were in very good shape.
Overall we were very satisfied. I believe it’s the best layout of any of the public course in Bluffton/Hilton Head area.
I hope the new owners keep on pushing forward with improvements. If they do you’ll have lots of locals wanting to play. Well done to all
Gorgeous course that's a bit rough around the edges. Some tee boxes lack grass, but fairways are playable, and greens reasonably consistent. Long cart rides between holes are like a low country national forest tour.
Thanks so much for your wonderful review, jacknyc. We are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your time with us. Please visit again soon. Thanks for choosing Crescent Pointe Golf Club!
Good for money
Overall good course. First time playing, I was impressed with the layout. Thought it was fun and challenging. We went off season so it was a little wet and greens we’re rolling like crazy. The front desk people were pretty depressed looking. Otherwise decent course.

It’s winter golf
Winter golf, hard to complain. Hope all grass fills in for summer golf. Just getting back into golf after 5 yrs.,, so appreciate being able to play again.

Not worth your time..better courses in the area.
Got a good golf now HOT DEAL, but the course conditions made the round not worth the money/time. There are many tee boxes that are 'Under Repair' throwing off the distances & the fairways are only basically acceptable. Also the bridge between hole 9 & 10 is under repair so you have to take a 'Tour de Ville' to get to the 10th tee box (about a 10 minute cart drive).
We played Eagle Pointe which is close by & it's in Much Better condition & at the same price. Both Eagle & Crescent are in the process of being improved, but Crescent still needs much more work than Eagle so maybe in a couple of years from now this course will be back to a course that is worth your time to play.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our golf course. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the tee boxes under repair and the condition of the fairways. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to continue improving our course for future players.
Coming Back
I had heard that the course had gone through some hard times, and had become run down. It was sold and the new owners are improving it. I actually liked the course when I played it. There were a few bad spots and the cart paths have to be fixed, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it in good shape in general. The cost was good compared to other courses nearby. People were pleasant and pace was good considering the number of hazards on the course. I enjoyed it.

Not bad for winter conditions
This course is under renovation. It’s not in bad condition considering. All but a couple of greens were in good condition.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the ongoing renovation and appreciate your understanding. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
Don't waste your $$ or time
We got a good "Hot Deal" on Golf Pass but quickly found out why. This course probably shouldn't be open for play at this time, the tee boxes are dirt as were most of the fairways, very little grass! I didn't read reviews of the course before we played and I regret not looking into it. You can tell the bones of the course are solid but it needs LOTS of TLC
We apologize for the condition of the golf course during your visit. We appreciate your feedback and will make sure to address the issues mentioned to improve the overall experience for our customers. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
Beautiful layout but poor conditions
The course is beautifully designed and has a great layout. Unfortunately we found several of the fairways were in pretty tough shape. Talk to a couple of members who said the new owners are putting money into the place and they're expecting to see improvements next year.
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the condition of the fairways and are grateful for your patience. We are working on making improvements and hope to provide a better experience next year.
Good layout poor condition and worse management
Knew there had just been a change of ownership and knew conditions would be bad but still liked the layout from past round 4 yrs ago. Had 11:48 time. No starter, or staff of any kind sending players out. At 11:50 I ask the people in front of us their tee times. They said 11:35 and 11:44. So two tee times 4 minutes apart. Plus the group were in no hurry to head out to the first tee until I stated they should go, then they went out as a fivesomes (all men) with 4 of the wives following. Two of the wives had not golfed this year ( we are in Nov.). Would not let anyone played through as the 2 groups wanted to stay together. There was no Marshall. After a 3 hour front nine we quit and I spoke to a manager who apologized and indicated they just took over the course but that was no excuse for no starter or Marshall. He offered to refund our money but couldn’t as it was a prepaid hot deal. All in all one of the worse golf experiences I have encountered in the 50 years I have golfed.
We apologize for your negative experience at our golf course. We appreciate your feedback and assure you that we take your comments seriously. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.
