Would play it again
The staff is very helpful and friendly. I played with two members who helped navigate the course. There are two or three par 4s that should probably be par 5s. The greens are in good condition. The course is well manicured. Almost no bad lies. Wide open course and tough to lose a ball, though I managed to find a way to do it. The course is long and is up/down hilly in the back 9, so walking can be a challenge, but most seem to walk instead of riding.
When I visit Australia again, I will play the course.
Good Condition
Played Sunday afternoon, pace of play was pretty good (4h 20m) given numbers on the course. Fairways were in good condition, but greens and surrounds were especially good. Interesting layout, needs some thought off the tee - don't just grab your driver. Will definitely play again.
A pleasant surprise Down Under
My first-ever round in Australia turned into a pleasant surprise. I had never heard of the course, and when I looked up local "rankings", it didn't necessarily stand out. Long Reef plays like a links, but with so many man-made ponds, it's not. The setting is gorgeous, especially once you reach the higher holes of the back nine and No. 17 along the water.
Some man-made dunes added in the past six months have better defined a few holes. To me, it's a must-play in Sydney, especially for links-loving Americans.
Great course and an incredible location. Pity quite a few holes under repair
Beautifully presented - an underrated track in a first class location
Course was in brilliant condition, staff were friendly and welcoming.
Do yourself a favour and get to Long Reef!
It’s a challenging walk (very hilly) so would recommend a cart for older players and/or those with any ailments.
