We were off on time and the pace of play was ok for a crowded course, things moved along well. The greens need help and I am over people not raking bunkers. The bunkers are very nice until you land in a size 10 footprint. Can’t rake - stay out. Nice layout , had a good time
Very good overall!
Fairways were in immaculate shape. Rough was so forgiving, it was almost like hitting off the fairways! Greens we're not the best, but were very consistent.
Pro shop merchandise was missing some logo items we were looking for: golf towels, ball markers, small size golf shirts.
The snack bar was closed when we needed it at the turn. The refreshment cart came around 3 times during our round, but had no coffee or hot chocolate during the coldest part of the day.
Solid course with quick, firm greens, but bunkers need some TLC.
I had the opportunity to play here 3 times in an 8 day span.I'll go to the biggest negative...the bunkers! Too much sand and with that comes the issue of trying to rake it properly! The ball can bounce 2-3 times then bounce into the bunker and still plug! I'd water the bunkers and try to get the sand to settle. May seem crazy to "water" the bunkers, but I played Bay Hill 1 week prior to Arnold Palmer Invitational and they were watering the bunkers to settle the sand and firm them up. High end courses do not have this caliber of bunkers/sand.
Now that does not deter me from giving it a 5 star rating. The facilities are wonderful-a good range-very nice restaurant-pleasant staff in shop and bag drop, please beverage cart staff, and fastest greens I've seen in quite some time. Now some would complain the greens are too fast (12-13 on stimpmeter) and too firm, but it creates a good challenge for a player that wants to improve.
The greens were brutal! The wind (10-18mph) would blow the ball off the greens after it stopped. Like putting on a plane of glass. Too fast to be enjoyable. Fairways generally excellent.
If you’re after slick, challenging greens look no further. Fairways are forgiving, but stay away from the plentiful fairway bunkers. Greens are well protected and punish misses with short sided chips that rarely bite. Check the fairway perimeters for OB.
I’m a nine handicap and I shot 84 with 3 three outs.
White red tees were great for 10-20 handicap
Worth the drive
Poston butte is a little over an hour drive from Phoenix but we’ll worth the drive! The course conditions were darn near perfect and would play it again in a heartbeat. We got a great deal online for $53 so could really not beat that for a troon course!
Fun peaceful course
The course plays as a nice desert links; the fairways are wide and the sand and rocks around the course make for easy ball finding for those errant shots.
Conditions were good and the hole layouts are varied and fun.
We arrived a bit tight for our tee time but the staff was very friendly and accommodating, guiding us to the 1st tee and coming back later to tell us our pace was good.
A few more elevated teeboxes would probably go a long way in making the course more scenic without having to change anything else. With how clean the desert is around the course, a little bit more height would let you see for miles. Currently, the 17th island green is the only real standout visually.
It's a long drive from Phoenix (a little over an hour), but worth it if you're looking for something outside of the city.
The front 9 wasn't bad, but when we started the back 9, it got so slow that we quit playing after 13 holes! There were several groups in front of us that were walking. I wouldn't normally mind this, but their pace of play was so slow, it got to be ridiculous. We waited about 10 minutes before each shot! When I talked to the pro shop about our issue, they played it off like we would have finished in normal time. They were catering to the 55 plus residents that live on the course, since that was all of the groups in front of us. At $100 per person, I felt like we should have gotten some sort of refund or a discount to come back, but nothing was offered. If you want to cater to residents, then make it private!
Postun Butte poor montoring
The golf course was in pretty good shape. Tee boxes and fairways were nice. Greens were a bit bumpy and the sand in the traps was new and much too soft. The pace of play was horrendous. We waited on evewry tee box and sewcvond shot from the seventh hole to the eighteenth. No one came out to try and speed up slow groups. If this is goig to be their policy then they need to increase the time between groups teeing off. Very poorly managed. Was not an enjoyable day trying to play golf. Very disappointing.
Any day playing golf is an good day
Course in great shape and the greens were fast and well kept. Fairways were in top shape and roughs weren't very harsh. The pins were well placed and very challenging in difficult placements.
