Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Arizona
First time playing here. Practice area well maintained. Greens matched the course. Great layout. Looking forward to our next round.
Was a beautiful course! Fairways and greens are in great shape. Pace of play was slow because of cart path only, but was worth the wait.
This was my first time playing the course and I enjoyed the layout. The course had recently been over seeded so it was cart path only. I definitely will play this course again.
Nice Course, Outstanding Staff
I played in a Golfnow Hot Deal on a Monday. Clubhouse staff and starter were great, very welcoming. Course itself, especially tee boxes and greens were in excellent condition considering it was just 10 days from overseed. Cart path only but that was known before making the reservation. Bunkers were decent, as well. Greens were a little rough as it appeared nearly all of them were loaded with ball marks. However, the course was hit with a bad hail storm the previous night causing damage to the greens. Nothing anyone can do about that. Also, I forgot a wedge on #7, and a shout out to the maintenance guys for finding it and bringing to the Pro Shop. Mike drove the wedge out to me at #10, outstanding customer service. Mike also refused a tip. This course is a food hour away from me, but it's well worth the drive. You need to go!
The course is in great shape. Greens are fast and true. Cart path only slowed the game somewhat. A bag drop by the road would be good . The sand traps have no sand making it hard to get out considering the depth of them.
It’s a Beautiful Golf Course
I had a great day playing this course it was windy on the front 9 , but the back 9 was wonderful I will be playing this course again, I give the course & staff an 10 , one of the best course I played in Arizona
Misled by GolfNow
Got a great Hot Deal but golf now advertised it as 90 degree conditions and it was cart path only. Never would have booked regardless of great price.
Course was in perfect shape. Fairways, greens all perfect. Bunkers could use some fluffing or more sand.
good and bad news
this course is in very good shape today 9-23-2018,fast greens and nice fairways, bad news closing tomorrow to do the arizona overseed thing, also the bunkers have "VERY" course sand in the but you can get out of them
Hit it high
Course was in great shape in general, though the fairways were a bit wet. Lots of mud balls and no roll. Most drives left a ball mark a couple of yards from where the ball ended up.
For some reason, the gold (back) tees were not out. Not sure why, but this lessens the experience for the better golfers.
Snack shop is somewhat lacking. No sandwiches available before the round or at the turn. The restaurant had food, but you need to order in advance or wait 30 minutes.
A Gem Far Away From Home
Look, we all know Florence is far away from Phoenix. Heck, I live in Gilbert and it's a major haul to get down there.
But...this course is worth it. Always in great condition, never a bad lie in the fairways, tee boxes in great shape. actual rough rarely seen in Maricopa or Pinal County, and greens fast and true. Only ding are the bunkers, which could use some more sand in many of them.
Fairways are wide and forgiving, but the Bermuda grass really holds up your ball, so it plays a lot longer than the listed yardage. I was playing from the whites (about 6200 yards) and I'd guess the course played closer to 6600 yards without the roll out I usually get on my drives.
Great facilities, huge grass driving range with balls provided, great putting green. Electric carts with coolers provided.
Honestly, though, the best part about Poston Butte is the customer service. Even for a Troon facility, PB is second to none in staff friendliness, a helpful attitude and just creating a great golf experience. It's so rare to be able to say that without reservation in this town, but I've never had less than a 5 star experience from any staff member.
Poston Butte great golf course
Had heard good things about this course and I was not disappointed.. Course was very well taken care of. Fairways, rough and greens were all very good. Greens have a lot of movement in them and were fast. Will likely play again next week.
Really a nice course, range balls included in price. All you want from the black tees . Course in great shape.,worth the drive
the greens were just plugged last week. Needs a couple weeks before their smooth again
Hot Summer Day
Aside from the extreme heat of the day, I enjoyed a practice round here. The course was in fairly good condition for early August, but in desperate need of rain. The greens were aeroated recently but rolled pretty well, just slow. Hardly anyone on the course, so I took advantage of a few extra shots. Played 18 holes in 2 and 1/2 hours. Good place to play for practice in the summer.
2nd time at PB and having played it once I was really looking forward to a second outing. I would have waited a few weeks to go if they had mentioned tha the whole course had been aerated and sanded!
Why the heck isn't it a requirement that issues like aerification aren't mandatory to disclose?
It was largely a waste of 90 minutes driving each way. This course is a really pretty layout, especially the back nine. I may back 1 more time when it heals.
