THE 3 AMIGOS---ONE HEADING BACK TO THE GREAT WHITE NORTH TONITE--17TH HOLE --WE ALL HIT THE GREEN Photo submitted by uWYZB8651WY on 11/24/2012
Greens on the back nine we just sanded. It would have been nice to be notified or told this in advance. Other than that, it is a great course. Because of the coronavirus, a lot of the course amenities were not available.
Played early morning round. Nice condition throughout. Food only at snack shack due to corvid19 concerns. Understandable.
The fairways are immaculate and the greens were fast even with a lot of rain-imagine how quick they’d be if dry- like lightening. Challenging but fair. All the staff helpful and knowledgeable and we had a terrific time.
Nice course, not worth the money. The course is in great condition. The holes are all similar links style. In my opinion, for the money the value is not there.
We were off on time and the pace of play was ok for a crowded course, things moved along well. The greens need help and I am over people not raking bunkers. The bunkers are very nice until you land in a size 10 footprint. Can’t rake - stay out. Nice layout , had a good time
Very good overall!
Fairways were in immaculate shape. Rough was so forgiving, it was almost like hitting off the fairways! Greens we're not the best, but were very consistent.
Pro shop merchandise was missing some logo items we were looking for: golf towels, ball markers, small size golf shirts.
The snack bar was closed when we needed it at the turn. The refreshment cart came around 3 times during our round, but had no coffee or hot chocolate during the coldest part of the day.
Solid course with quick, firm greens, but bunkers need some TLC.
I had the opportunity to play here 3 times in an 8 day span.I'll go to the biggest negative...the bunkers! Too much sand and with that comes the issue of trying to rake it properly! The ball can bounce 2-3 times then bounce into the bunker and still plug! I'd water the bunkers and try to get the sand to settle. May seem crazy to "water" the bunkers, but I played Bay Hill 1 week prior to Arnold Palmer Invitational and they were watering the bunkers to settle the sand and firm them up. High end courses do not have this caliber of bunkers/sand.
Now that does not deter me from giving it a 5 star rating. The facilities are wonderful-a good range-very nice restaurant-pleasant staff in shop and bag drop, please beverage cart staff, and fastest greens I've seen in quite some time. Now some would complain the greens are too fast (12-13 on stimpmeter) and too firm, but it creates a good challenge for a player that wants to improve.
The greens were brutal! The wind (10-18mph) would blow the ball off the greens after it stopped. Like putting on a plane of glass. Too fast to be enjoyable. Fairways generally excellent.
If you’re after slick, challenging greens look no further. Fairways are forgiving, but stay away from the plentiful fairway bunkers. Greens are well protected and punish misses with short sided chips that rarely bite. Check the fairway perimeters for OB.
I’m a nine handicap and I shot 84 with 3 three outs.
White red tees were great for 10-20 handicap
Worth the drive
Poston butte is a little over an hour drive from Phoenix but we’ll worth the drive! The course conditions were darn near perfect and would play it again in a heartbeat. We got a great deal online for $53 so could really not beat that for a troon course!
Fun peaceful course
The course plays as a nice desert links; the fairways are wide and the sand and rocks around the course make for easy ball finding for those errant shots.
Conditions were good and the hole layouts are varied and fun.
We arrived a bit tight for our tee time but the staff was very friendly and accommodating, guiding us to the 1st tee and coming back later to tell us our pace was good.
A few more elevated teeboxes would probably go a long way in making the course more scenic without having to change anything else. With how clean the desert is around the course, a little bit more height would let you see for miles. Currently, the 17th island green is the only real standout visually.
It's a long drive from Phoenix (a little over an hour), but worth it if you're looking for something outside of the city.
