Great Little Nine Holer

Despite the fires in Australia, my dad and I managed to get out to the Dunes for a quick 9. The course was cloaked in haze and smoke, which was a little surreal - it looked like we were teeing off in the morning fog.

The cups is of course the sister course the the main 18 hole course . It’s marketed as being good for junior and beginner golfers, but even the seasoned golfer will find this a challenge.

$25aud for 9 holes is a little steep for 9 hole public courses, but given the quality of the course, I think it’s reasonable. The greens are hard and true, and the layout is pitted with the bunkers and elevation changes that golf in this region is famous for. Target golf is out of the question, depending on the flag position you will need to play to the front edge and allow for a big bounce on approaches.

The dunes of course has a magnificent practice facility - a huge sloping green and decent driving range. And the bar that overlooks the final holes is also excellent. Friendly and straightforward service.

Does get busy on holidays and weekends I believe. We played on a Monday and it was very open.
