About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
Located in Callahan, Deerfield Lakes Golf Course is less than 10 miles from the Jacksonville International Airport. Its convenient location also makes it accessible from all of Jacksonville, as well as Amelia Island, and South Georgia. The 18-hole layout is player-friendly, providing a good round for all players despite handicap or skill level.
Deerfield Lakes Golf Course's well-manicured greens are medium in size and the lush, inviting fairways are average width. Although it is a forgiving golf course, water hazards come into play on sixteen holes to add some difficulty. There are also bunkers strategically placed throughout to keep golfers from taking the course too casually.

Greens?
Used to enjoy this course even 2 months ago as a nice practice course to tweak my game and drop some awesome scores. Always had relatively nice greens for the money! Sadly to say the greens were awful. More sand and patches than green. Tee boxes are uneven and overgrown. Fairways are alright. Careful to drive your cart more than 2 mph on the course as you'll hit some insane bumps and your clubs will go flying. They need to seriously spend some money to fix it up
Room For Improvement
The layout is fairly simple, with very few bunkers and water hazards, especially for a Florida course, but they make up for it degree-of-difficulty-wise with small greens. What keeps my rating for this course low is largely the clubhouse area. How can you call yourself a 19th hole when you don't have a machine set up to take credit cards? It's the 21st century for goodness sakes. How do you have someone employed in the clubhouse who doesn't know how to do... well... much of anything, really. They were all very friendly, but saddled by incompetence and poor facilities. Clearly they're not trying to be Amelia Island, but they can be better than they are.
One note if you're going to play, it is the least-rolling fairways I've ever encountered. Expect your drives to be 10-20 yards shorter than usual.
improving
at the beginning of the summer the greens were in great shape then I understand they lost their greens keeper then they lost most of the greens due to a fungus they still have a couple of temporary greens and patch together the other greens
Not worth the money
I used to love playing Deerfield, but the course has went way down. Some of the worse greens I've ever seen. Dead grass and new patches have been laid down causing the surface to be bumpy and makes putting hard. Need to start over on the course.
poor
I have never experienced greens in such bad conditions I will not ever play there again.
what has happened to Deerfield?
The greens are in such blighted shape I will ask about them before returning.
The course should shutdown and repair this condition before any more players has a visit like mine.
Very Poor Greens
The course was nice except for the greens. I've never experienced greens in such bad conditions. I will not ever play there again and would recommend people choose another location to play.
The greens were terrible
Normally the greens are but this time they were not! I'm glad I made my tee time with GolfNow otherwise it would've been a waste of money to play! Still... I'll be back!
DISAPPOINTED
CRABGRASS IN FAIRWAY, HAZARDS NOT STAKED, GREENS WERE AERIATED,
First Time On This Course
This was my first time playing on this course and just started playing golf six months ago. The course was good but the staff was even better. I will definitely come back again soon and recommend this course to anyone.
It's a good course
It was good..put too much sand on the greens when they were arifying them.
Great Value
Good news: Fairways, tee boxes, fringes around greens were super! Bad news: Greens were spotty with lots of worn or dead areas on putting surface. Pro Shop Attendant said it was a result of a cold winter. Nice venue at a great price. Staff was very friendly & helpful. I played alone but wished I'd joined up with golfers familiar with the course layout. I teed it up from the White Tees and found it plenty long for my level. If you choose to play from the Blue Tees it'll be quite challenging. There are 4 sets of tee markers. During play I hit into some hazard areas that probably locals would have known about. No GPS on the carts but every hole has 150 yd markers clearly visible and 100 yd concrete markers in the ground. So judging exact distances can be somewhat of a problem. It was a nice layout and I recommend giving it a try. I played at 11 am and the course was not crowded. One 4some let me play through. The course is 31 miles (one way) from my house but, it was worth the drive. All in all a nice golfing experience.
Don't go
Saw this on golfnow for $10 and thought it would would be worth trying out. The greens were like putting on a sidewalk and fairway wasn't great. I won't be back. Worst course I've ever played
Slow golf
It took 9 holes to get everyone moving at a good pace! We had four players and 2 players never played before but we had to wait with 2 other 4 player groups! I think they had to many people lined up to play at the same time
Decent at times
Ive played here many times, the greens are currently in pretty bad shape. Once the greens come back the course will be in great condition.
Easy beginners course
Easy, great for beginners or practicing.
Holes are a straight shot
Deerfield lakes
The greens have been in far better shape than they are now. They are still better than others but not in as good as they used to be. This is a good course for the money but it used to be better.
Not in good shape
Played this course yesterday. It was just old and the greens were not in good shape at all. The price was cheap but prob should be cheaper then what it was bc of the condition it was in.
Course conditions
Fairways had various grasses/weeds. Greens a little rough and slow.
Havent played this course for over a year. It is still in rough shape but vastly improved. All of the old comments still apply. I lost my ball at least twice on the fairway. Probably be another year before i go back again.
