Cypress Point vs Cruit Island for natural beauty
Cruit Island…great fun, spectacular scenery, unforgettable 6th hole…and then there’s Fran behind the bar at the end of your round…the icing on your cake! And if you’re lucky, Robert the assistant greenkeeper, will be in having his off duty pint whilst you’re having yours. “Best Guinness in Ireland!” claims Robert. Fran just smiles and pours another one.
Heaven
A magnificent place 5star great staff will be back
A great course we really enjoyed it ant wait to go back again and the girl in the club house was really friendly and great crack
Unique
Spectacular scenery. Greens and tee boxes were Fantastic.
Sorry we only played nine
Sadly, our flight from Dublin to Donegal was badly delayed so we only got to play nine holes at Cruit Island. It would have been wonderful to play a second lap around the course. Pat was extremely flexible as our flight time constantly changed, Once we got there , he took us out to the first tee and advised us how to play the opening hole. We needed that. Sadly he didn't stay with us to deal with the other eight challenges that faced us. It was a wonderful start to our visit to the northern section of the Republic. We would love to return and enjoy the views again.
Very, very pretty course
I've played lots of beautiful courses, including many in Hawaii. This course's setting tops them all - every hole has a water and Atlantic islands view.
The course is well maintained and as links courses go not too penal. All the holes have an interesting layout. The routing can be a little confusing to first time players. I would suggest adding hole layout graphics to each tee box and on the scorecard..
Staff were very welcoming, with a nice bar, with snacks, overlooking the 18th hole and the Atlantic Ocean.
Your trip to the course travels through interesting scenery, worth the trip alone.
All in all a sublime experience. I shall play it again although it was a long trip there for me.
Great wee nine holer
Always love coming back here, weather was a bit mixed and got soaked going out but dried out in the wind on the way in. A few lovely holes particularly the sixth/fifteenth.
Go for the views and the famous Par 3 - but you will enjoy the golf too
Brace yourself for a lengthy and curve-filled narrow road drive to get there, but it is totally worth it! The course is remote, and there is not much at all in the near vicinity so bring anything you might need. The clubhouse has a bar and coffee machine. Trolleys are 5euro each, and you have to get tokens from the proshop. The single staff member was very nice and helpful. The course is nine holes with two tee boxes for most holes to make 18. Three holes have a blind drive, but there are posts to mark the target line. Still, the first time you play the course, you will be feeling your way around. Course was in very good shape and greens rolled very well. Holes are not very long, and good drives will get you close to the greens, several of which will require blind pitch shots to reach. Play the first nine and enjoy the amazing views if the weather is good - we had clear skies with some blowing drifts of fog. Play the second nine for a good score. The infamous Par 3 (number 6/15) does not disappoint - an amazing golf hole that requires a clean shot over a rocky shoreline and sea cliffs. It is a great golf course to experience.
Best course ever!
It was the very first time I played a true links course and because of the conditions (wind & rain) it was quite a challenge. Loved every minute of playing at Cruit Iskand, the scenery is breathtaking , quite a few blind shots and the greens were like carpets.
Will I recommend this course? For sure!
And I just booked a tee time to play it again tomorrow
Little gem
Lovely course with great variation in layout. Fabulous views of the Donegal coast. Alot of blind holes, so it was unclear whether you could play or hold. Next tees a bit close to green.
Terrific short links
A delightful short links course wrapped around some of Donegal's finest scenery. I would defy you not to be bowled over by the beauty of this setting; the views from several elevated tees run the risk of distracting you from a focus on where your ball should be going. It's a short track but tricky enough for all that; several blind drives can lead to trouble. Highly recommended for the course and the warm welcome that awaits you at the clubhouse.
First time we played
Very good course we recommend that if you get the chance play the course.
We would recommend that you have an electric trolley or hire a golf buggy as the course is quite hilly.
We had lunch in the club house after the game and sat at a table over looking the 19th green, lovely.
