The land that time forgot

Henley is a solid 1km walk from the Heritage clubhouse & clearly designed for cart use.
I walked it
Front 9 is flat & intersected by numerous water hazards.
The back 9 circles around a very large hill.
Loved the layout.
It’s been a very wet Spring in Victoria & many bunkers & a few fairway sections we’re suffering (unacceptable at the hefty green fee charged)
That said a fabulous layout & arguably more enjoyable than it’s sister course St.John’s

Challenging and Beautiful Valley Layout - budget cuts have it

Heritage Henley is a tough, long layout through the undulating hills of far North Eastern Melbourne. As I understand it, the Chinese married couple who were the owners of the course went through a divorce. The golf course went to the wife and the grounds keeping budget went through the floor. As a result many of the bunkers are simply listed as GUR and are not to be played out of. A blessing for some I suppose.

Today we played on a very windy day, and perhaps a couple of weeks after the greens were sanded.

This is a very challenging track with full bunkering and difficult sight lines off some tees. The holes are long and the greens are large, extremely undulating and require your distance control to be spot on.

My favorite hole was the par 5 13th, which is a long par 5 with an extremely difficult green that slopes severely from back to front. Land your approach behind the hole and it should roll back into position.

Definitely a course that requires local knowledge.

Regular green fee is $125 I believe. Probably not competitive compared to other courses like Yering, Gardiners run in the area, especially given the conditions.

If you're walking the Henley course is also extremely hard to find. It took me three tries and a 3 × 1km walk to find it. Which really puffed me out before my round!

Full practice facilities.

The Henley first tee is listed on google maps across the bridge. It is there, just a fair walk from the clubhouse. You can cut through the St Johns course to find it.
