Great Value!! Great Course!!
I decided to check this course out on a weekend trip and was pleasantly surprised at what this course had to offer. After reading some of the reviews I was skeptical, but realized this course has gone through a lot over the last couple years. I'm so glad to see the new ownership take pride in their golf course. It may not be perfect, but this course has a lot to offer to the average golfer. After speaking with several locals and new owners I will be coming back to see the progress of this course. Great location, excellent pricing and great golf makes this course a winner in my book. Looking forward to my next trip.
Almost worth the drive from Tally
If you can find a course in Tallahassee to play that beats the price of Wildwood, play there. It's a decent drive out to Crawfordville (especially from the North side of Leon County) to play golf at a course that is JUST ok. There's nothing really great about it other than you can get it on a really good deal through GolfNow or other discount sites and the fact that its usually open so you can keep a very good pace (or hit a couple more balls after a miss hit). The greens are not in good shape and a few of the tee boxes are sod that hasn't taken root yet or just sand. I'd go again, but not if I can't play in town for even a few dollars more.
The course reopened but why?
Have played Wildwood once a year for many years, always had enjoyed the layout even if the conditions were fair.. New owners were friendly, but the course conditions were horrible. Grass on the fairways were non-existent, greens were not good. Very dissapointed in the conditions, hopefully the new owners can revive it.
It takes time to bring something back from the dead. The greens today are very good. The golf course is the only golf course in Wakulla county and the people wanted it open. It's been reopened for 1 year and Wow, what a great improvement. This course will be the best value in the Tallahassee area. The locals know how far it's come, after being destroyed by round up, now it's a fun, beautiful, golfing experience again. Greens are fun and have great speed.
Wildwood is a great golf course that was closed down for several years and was reopened in October 2014. The greens are currently going through transition. This is when the winter grass is dying from the heat and the Bermuda grass is starting to grow after being dormant this past winter. At the time of this past review Wildwood Golf Course hasn't seen rain for 3 weeks. The local membership is thrilled with this golf course because they know how much it has improved. When the greens have completed their spring transition, Wildwood will be a great golf course again. One good rain will fix the fairways and the greens are rolling smooth and improving daily.
Fair condition, nice round of golf
I played as a single, and as a result had a very fast round of golf (2 1/2 hours) - it wasn't crowded. The course condition was pretty rough - maybe it is just the start of the season? - but I still wound up having fun and a nice round. The layout doesn't give much trouble, so it was fairly easy, but the fairways were bare in spots and some of the greens looked as if they were already lost to the summer heat (although it's only April). Staff was nice, and the facilities looked good, just wish the course had been in better shape.
fair pricing
This course has a great layout and design. But the condition is very poor. The Greens And Tee boxes are especially poor. If you need a cheap course to practice on this is your course; but if you want a nice course to play, better keep looking.
Enjoyed It
I enjoyed it very much. Since new ownership took over the golf course gets better every day. They planted the greens and they are very nice. The fairways are green after the cold winter. Course was in very good shape. The renovations of the greens is a wonderful change. I will be back.
Good value with discounted price
I played this course numerous times before it closed. 3-7-2015 was only the second time I've played it since in reopened in Sept. 2014. The greens are much better than they were but still needs some work. We are going to put it back in our rotation of courses we play in this vicinity. The discount price makes it a good value but the $30 weekend regular price is a little on the high side for the current course condition.
The course was closed for over a year prior to reopening
The course is not in the best shape as compared to other courses in the area or courses which most golfer are use to playing. However, if you can get a good hot deal on golfnow, it is a great deal. I can only hope with the spring, the greens and fairways will come into shape
Will be hard to come back
The course has potential as far as the layout, but with Tallahassee courses costing about the same using golfnow or teeoff, it will be hard to come back. None of the greens were in good/great shape and hitting out of the fairway was either a rock or sand. The staff was friendly but I do know if its worth the drive.
Wildwood
Had a great time. Course still needs some work on the greens. Will return.
Getting better
This course is being reopened after a extended time and they are working very hard to make this the best given the challenge.
Up and Coming
Please give this course a chance and play often. The greens and fairways are average and still in the works for great improvement. Moderate level players will love this course. Build your game and confidence without being intimidated by pros. It's a great course and fun to play. Staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. No food yet but they said its coming soon.....
This course is easy and fun to play.
Not a well kept course! Sand traps are the
worse! Not raked at all.... Fallen limbs everywhere.
Re-Opened Too Soon
My foursome and I were thrilled to play this course again when we got the notice that they re-opened. We all loved this course in it's hay day, as it's a fantastic layout.
It was bitter sweet. We were very disappointed that the "new greens" were apparently from seed, not grown in, and very patchy. They just shouldn't be played on yet. I like the fact that they've allowed nature to do as it will with the areas out of play, but the areas that were apparently designated for "in play" were not totally reclaimed yet.
I feel bad giving it a bad condition review, because I saw just how fast mother nature took this golf course back to it's bones when it closed. I appreciate the task the new owners have in front of them, and I cannot wait until I can give it a perfect review (or a dozen) in the future. The fact remains though, the condition isn't anywhere near the level this track deserves.

All greens are dirt. Too bad, this would have been a fun course.
Unfortunately, my son and I played this course. We found out why the rate is so great ($20) after we paid for our round and walked out. To our chagrin, the greens were completely razed of any grass and covered with sand. We plowed through the round despite the condition since I came from out-of-town. My son had played this course about 6 months prior and said it was in much better shape. The fairways are not mowed short enough to distinguish them from the rough on most holes.
Sad. This course, I am sure, is a jewel when properly maintained. Times are tough.
No grass on greens
When I got my GolfNow confirmation it contained and alert that stated "Replacement greens in place". I called the course and asked about the condition of the greens. I was told that they had killed the grass on the greens in anticipation of regressing the greens. I was assured that the greens were "very playable and very puttable". I expected the greens to be like dormant grass, that was not the case. There was no grass whatsoever on the greens, there were bare dirt and sand. The green's fee was greatly reduced but even that is not sufficient to make for a pleasant round.
Neglected
Course best described as a cow pasture.
Every green is sand, they are in process of re-seeding.
That does not explain the terrible fairways, weeds and dead patches.
Rough is same as fairways, you could not tell the fairways from roughs on most holes.
Better to wait to play till course repairs completed.
Good thing was there was no backups, lot had 4 cars in it.
Under Construction
The course is currently under going some major renovations, should be more challenging once everything is complete.Still a fun play for the moneywhile they are working on it.
Just Went through the first growing season. It's really a shame that happy customer are less likely to review. The golf course has good greens and the fairways are nice. The greens roll at a 9 on the stimp meter. The improvement is amazing, if you know where it was a year ago.
