About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in Dec 2018.
Crystal River Golf Club (formely known as Seven Rivers Golf & Country Club) has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1968. The course is not only one of Crystal River's most affordable rounds but also one of its most scenic. It's not unusual for golfers to be joined by the golf course's abundant wildlife, which includes everything from turtles and alligators to egrets and eagles. The golf course has a traditional parkland layout that is routed through stands of mature oak and maple trees. A network of ponds and steams weaves throughout the golf course as well. It's a challenging but fair test where water hazards and sand bunkers come into play often. In addition to the course, Crystal River Golf Club also has a practice facility with a driving range and a putting green with a sand bunker.

Good Average Course
This course is not too challenging. There are very few forced carries, not too many sand traps, and the layout is not too difficult. While there is water it's mostly on the sides of the hold and not in front you.The fairway & rough conditions were OK remembering it was January when we played. A very friendly staff, and the only negative was they put us (a twosome) behind a 5-some. Not nice...
Crystal river g c c
The coarse is in transition but it has been since April of last year. Therefore with the warm and wet season we expected better tees and fairways the greens always seem to roll well (fast) some bare spots.the nature is awesome and the coarse challenging We had a good time
Good Green Spped
This is the second time that I have played here. The reason I wanted to go back there because the the last time I was there the greens were really slick and fun to putt. Not quite as fast this time but still quicker than other courses around here.
Great golf
I had a friend from out of town and booked a tee time at Crystal river golf course and we had a great time the course was in excellent condition
Decent course
Reminds me of a caddyshack type course. Water and layout gives the difficulties, not like some of the new 'target' courses. Got so much rain, that the golf was impacted, but still enjoyed it.
First Time
Playing a course for the first time brings back the love for the game. The unknowns became a pleasant surprise as around each turn is a different look a different challenge. This course met the challenges and was more than rewarding. Even though Florida weather can change quickly in the Summer it was not a deterrent to our enjoyment. We left the course with 2 holes to play because of lightning in the area. Staff was friendly and upgrades were in process at the course but would return for additional challenges. It was fun.
Last minute special!
Course is now called Crystal River, not 7 Rivers, which was confusing upon arrival. No other golfers around, which made for a delightful golfing experience. We enjoyed it and will definitely return.
Going downhill
Have played this course dozens of times in the past, but it had been probably 4 months since the last time. I always enjoyed playing here, but I was shocked to see how poorly it's been maintained - bare spots on the greens, large dead areas (read: hard packed dirt) in the middle of the fairways, and the tees are like a grassy sandbox. Shrubbery around tee boxes has been cut down in many places. The place just looks bad! I won't be back until I hear that major improvements have been made.
Good deal for price
The new owners are working to make it better. The cousre has been reversed, the back 9 is now the front and so it was different.
The greens need some work ,but overall a nice round, especially now that most of the snowbirds have gone home.
Pace of play was great as there was only a few people on the course.
Great course!
This course is one of our favorites. Just enough water to create a few challenges, but not overwhelming. Also, very kind on their forward tees.
7 Rivers Takes Bad Reviews Seriously
Before booking my tee time I read some of the recent reviews of this course and most of them were less than stellar. When I arrived at the course the first thing I noticed was the large number of workers mowing, digging, raking and generally sprucing the place up.
The greens were sanded but not punched and putted fast but true. The fairways are parallel but divided by water and run one direction then back the other through most of the course. The water acts as a divider between fairways and seldom comes into play unless you have a bad slice or a hook off the tees.
The tee boxes were sanded and not in great shape but you don't have to hit off the ground anyway so the lack of grass isn't a factor in how well you hit the ball.
I had a thorougly enjoyable round and it was a great value for the money. I look forward to playing it again this summer and see how their rehabilitation effort goes. This course has a really fun layout and lots of gators.
Nice layout/needs work
Course has a nice layout, but years of neglect are evident. Fairways and greens need maintenance. We were teemed up with two very nice gentlemen which made the day very pleasant. Course is lady friendly due to length. The lady at the pro shop was very nice.
Enjoyed our day, hope course gets proper care.
Nice course but
The course as it self is a good course, but first we was paired with someone who never had played before, we splitted after 2 holes as as masive que was starting to be behind us, then it went fine until we came to hole 10, where we found that others just jumped in infront of us and we had to waint the rest of the round for every hole even it also was a two ball.
not worth the drive or price.
previous reviews of this course made it sound world class is far from that
Great bargain; great course
The late afternoon rates are a great bargain. Fairways are varied, in good condition. Greens are well tended.
Great location for us
Good for the money we paid fairways could have been better
Typical of area courses
One of those many area courses which with improved maintainence could be a gem. Cannot complain with the GNow price of <$20. A GPS will help you find it.
Going in the right direction..
Couse looks like it is in transition. Greens good, fairways in rough shape (did see staff walking fairways filling in divots). Score card didn't have the distances for the different tee boxes.
Love the greens - I Like this course.
The greens are fast and true. The fairways could use more water, but most lies were quite good. I like the layout very much. Not very hilly. The clubhouse is old school for sure, but staff are friendly. Driving range grass is about gone. I could play this course over and over. I would recommend anyone giving it a try.
This is a great golf course.
They did not overseed with winter rye this year, because the old owner was in process of selling the course, so the fairways are not in pristine condition. However the greens are great. These greens are very fast. They putt true and are always in great shape. The 18th is a wonderful end to a great day. There is always Eagles, alligators, and other birds to compliment the experience. I have many guests from the north for the winter and this is one of our go to courses. I can't wait till the new owners have time to work on the course a bit.
We are so glad to hear you had a great experience with us at Crystal River Golf Club. When you combined the water and layout the course becomes an interesting test of golf skills! We hope to see you and your friends out on the green for another round.
