Berkshire Valley Golf Course
About
Berkshire Valley has a scenic location in the Highlands region of northern New Jersey. It is known as one of best public golf courses in the area. The course is perched atop the ridge of Green Pond Mountain, providing a dramatic topography for a challenging round of golf. The front of the golf course was carefully carved from a hillside, featuring narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. The first five holes are particularly scenic as well as formidable. There are some open holes that play along the cliffs, subjecting them to the prevailing winds, one of these is the intimidating par-5 third. The Berkshire Valley golf course finishes with its signature hole. This hole can be deceiving since it has a generous fairway, but the second shot is uphill to a tough green.

Good course
Overall a great course. Nice layout. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Very well maintained.
The course is fun and challenging. Some of the views are awesome. They say the view from hole one is great and it is but some of the back nine tee boxes have amazing views of the course. Take a second on the tee boxes and look around it’s worth it.
I’ll definitely play here again and would definitely recommend.
Tough Front Nine!
This is a great course, challenging but not impossible.
Nice course but way too slow.
First time playing here. Nice layout, conditions good, staff friendly. But we left after 4 1/2 hrs and 12 holes. If there was a ranger who would push the pace of play I'd recommend this course.
Course in the heat
Played in hottest round ever , Some greens were little rough but weather been crazy hot, besides that little slow but overall if you get right price this is a beautiful set up and great test in golf ,
This course is amazing!
The course was great and the staff was very professional.
A Fun Course!
The Berk, as I like to call it, always puts up a good fight. Even during the busy (and hot) summer months, the course superintendent maintains a satisfyingly playable surface — from T to green.
Nice course, but soooo slow
This place is on a beautiful piece of land with terrific views. The course is in good shape with a great layout and greens. However, we averaged almost 18 minutes a hole and waited on every single shot. When we pulled up to the 14th tee, there was already a group there waiting for the tee box to clear. The group on the tee was waiting for the fairway to clear, and that group was waiting for the green to clear. So five foursomes were on one hole. At that point I decided to call it a day and head in. On my way to the cart return, I passed some amazing looking holes that I would love to play. If they would space the tee times out a bit, I would love to come back.
Berkshire
I don’t know what they did to this course but it’s not the same anymore.
Extremely pleased for the value
Berkshire Valley is a challenging course that's in excellent shape. I've certainly played hundreds of courses throughout the Lower Hudson Valley, NJ, and LI and this is definitely one of my favorites. Staff is great!
My only bone to pick is the pace of play. The two groups in front of us were extremely slow to the tune of being 3 holes behind by the time we got to hole 16. Unfortunately, we did not see any Rangers all day to help the pace of play. It was extreme. I get that this happens from time to time, but Rangers would have helped also.
Scenic and Challenging
Enjoyed the course, though some of the fairways were in pretty rough shape. Greens were good and each hole had it’s own unique challenges.
Hidden gem
Greens and fairways were running pretty fast. Played in 4 hours.
Lots of fun
The little things
Love the course, and jump at the chance to play it (being out of county, the tee times seem to book up before I get my opportunity). Driving range is very lacking. Snack bar was closed up by the time we left around 4 pm, which was disappointing for the long ride home.
A very friendly ranger ride past us a few times on the front 9. As it turns out, shortly thereafter, one in our foursome left a wedge on one of the greens. He drove back to collect it, and the group behind said they gave it to the ranger. Instead of the ranger driving forward to see which group lost it, it was returned to the pro shop. When we saw the ranger again on the 12th hole and asked about it, we were told it was in the pro shop. How about bringing the wedge to the player, instead of having to play the next 6 holes without a wedge? Oh, and we never saw the ranger again the rest of the round.
