Berkshire Valley Golf Course
About
Berkshire Valley has a scenic location in the Highlands region of northern New Jersey. It is known as one of best public golf courses in the area. The course is perched atop the ridge of Green Pond Mountain, providing a dramatic topography for a challenging round of golf. The front of the golf course was carefully carved from a hillside, featuring narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. The first five holes are particularly scenic as well as formidable. There are some open holes that play along the cliffs, subjecting them to the prevailing winds, one of these is the intimidating par-5 third. The Berkshire Valley golf course finishes with its signature hole. This hole can be deceiving since it has a generous fairway, but the second shot is uphill to a tough green.

Always slow!!!!!
Even on a Wednesday at 9:30 it was a 4 hour and 50 minute round. No rangers on the course to help. Decided to try it again after 3 years thinking maybe it would move. My bad. Fun course but dreadfully slow.
Great time. Great course
Beautiful course. Very nice views. Challenging course if you’re new bring a few extra balls. The first couple of holes will be tough if you slice. They have a cliff off the right side. A couple holes you hit over water. I am rather new though and so is the person I played with this day. I don’t want that to be taken negatively about the course though I just put it there so an newbies like me know to bring a few extra balls you’ll probably lose a few. The people in the club house and starter, all staff really and even other golfers there were very welcoming and personable. When we told them that we were new they went above and beyond giving pointers/tips etc.
Great experience and a beautiful course. 10/10 Would definitely recommend.
Beautiful course
For the money you spend, the quality of the course, friendliness of the staff and overall experience, Berkshire Valley is atop my list of favorite courses in NJ.
Really nice "Bucket List" course to play!
We went on a really cold day and were the only golfers on the course (my car was the only one in the parking lot). Even with the cold weather the course was in great shape for this time of year and we were pleasantly surpised with the beautiful layout. Carved in the side of the hills and great views. Every hole was an amazing challenge. A must play but pricey for $77.
A Must Play Course
In short, beautiful views, superb layout, very fair difficulty wise, just a great experience with the exception of cart path only and the 5 hour round. Can’t wait to play here again though.
Beautiful course & view!
We were blown away with how much we loved this course. We typically play Bergen County courses and had no idea this was considered a Morris County course. The course itself if really well maintained and challenging, but fun. The view is simply stunning.
Pace of play wasn’t great, but attribute that to the frost delay and them making it cart-path-only for the day. If we didn’t have to stick to the path, we would’ve finished the round in a normal 4 hours or so. We started on the back 9, and my only complaint was that as we were teeing off on the 17th hole, we could see the same group up the hill on hole 1 taking multiple tee shots each. We were able to finish our round before sunset and I firmly believe that if they had a ranger managing that part better, we would’ve finished in time. However, it’s the end of the season and they seemed a little short-staffed, so stuff happens. Also, the driving range is pretty beat up and the ball dispenser didn’t work. The started (who was already very overwhelmed just checking people in) had to leave his post to try and help us, and couldn’t fix it, but was able to give us a couple of loose balls to hit. Again, stuff happens, so no biggie.
Overall, we loved this course. Everyone was really nice, including the young man in the pro shop and the young lady at the snack bar. I probably sound crazy, but I would say that this course rivals a course like Ballyowen as far as quality and the scenic view you get, and it was a great price. We look forward to playing there much more next season!
Great course
Great course in great condition. Friendly staff. Cold day.
Super slow at 4 hrs 45 minutes.
absolutely beautiful course.....but
Great layout and just all around beautiful area and course.....greens are well kept but a little slow considering how difficult the rest of the course is with the mountainous and hilly terrain. Unfortunately there is an incredible amount of unfilled divots and gouges in the fairway landing areas, maybe a lot of novice golfers come to play due to the beauty of the course..... I played at 1pm , a twosome, and I heard the starter say to someone " I have 3 twosomes in a row." That will give you an idea how they treat the customers. Did not pair us up, let us wait.......The CRAZIEST thing was that on October 12, the day I played almost EVERY FLAG was tucked into the extreme back right corner ( maybe a couple in the left back corner ) of the green. Unbelievable.....I hope management reads this and explains why......The greens are about 1.5 times or so larger than most courses, and all of the tucked back pins made the course much more difficult . I have never seen anything like that in 25 years of playing golf.
