Royce Brook East

Great layout for this course that must have been a gem in its day. Fairways and greens in good shape but the numerous bunkers that are key features of the design, have not been maintained and several were inundated with water from recent rainfall. Disappointed but still a fun round overall .

Bunkers

This was one of my favorite courses. The bunker upkeep wasn’t so good two years ago and seem to have gotten worse. Until some care is made on this I would not recommend it. The outside restaurant area has also not been kept up

Bunkers????

Fantastic layout with good fairway and tee box conditions. However, how a place with great overall conditions not have a single bunker in service and playable? Every single bunker from fairway to green side was red clay, no sand, and most had a foot of water and mud in them or weeds growing out of them. Overall it was a nice course but I wouldn’t pay $95 to play there again until they renovate the bunkers.

Bunkers are a joke

They shouldn’t charge that much given that the bunkers are the worst I’ve ever seen.

Awful bunkers and carts

I played the east course yesterday, 9/3/23. While the layout is challenging, the value for the price is not worth it. I paid only $51 as some sort of online special (about 1/2 of the usual green fee), but even that was overpaying for the condition of the bunkers. Don't believe the pictures of the bunkers on the website or in ads. NONE of them were what I would deem playable. If they weren't flooded, they were dried mud for a surface with weeds growing in them. Not what I would expect from a course that normally charges twice what I paid for a round. Also, the carts left much to be desired. My cart died on the 4th hole, and I had to be rescued after calling the clubhouse. No problem, these things happen I thought. By the 5th hole, my rescue cart also died. After another call to the clubhouse, I was told to lift up the seat, flip a switch on the battery off and on again, and then that would work. That did work but I had to do it at least another 10-15 times for the rest of the round. Again, for the price they charge, one would expect much better.

This used to be such a nice course.

This used to one of my favorite courses to play but haven’t played it in over a year. Played it today and this course took a really bad turn. Pace a play is terrible and bunkers were a joke and unplayable. Greens and tee boxes were in decent shape but the fairways was hit or miss. It’s such a fun track and pity to see is so poorly managed.

There is no bunker maintenance

The East course is beautifully laid out and used to be one of the top public courses you can play in NJ. However, it looks like this part of the course may be turning into housing developments soon…? and therefore the grounds crew is clearly putting zero effort into maintaining their bunkers. The fairways, tee boxes, rough, and greens were all either acceptable to good condition but the bunkers were atrocious. They are either completely dried up concrete feeling mud or filled with standing water that’s becoming basically a pond. Many of the bunkers even have vegetation growing now… basically no sand remaining. With these conditions, the course / pro shop should warn you of the current situation. At the prices they charge, having no playable bunkers is not worthwhile.

I really hope they don’t build a housing development there and start maintaining the course better again. It’s definitely one of the nicer layouts in the area.

Not a true golf experience

The bunkers had no sand. Weeds and waters. Fairways and greens were good. My understanding is you are combining the two courses. I totally understand but you should provide a warning and a reduced price. This really ruined the round for our foursome. Without bunkers you are not playing real golf. I invited 3 friends who drove an hour to get to your course. We lost a number of balls in the bunkers because they were filled with water. To say the least I was embarrassed. I don’t usually write reviews but I wanted to let you know how disappointed I was.

No upkeep

Show up 30 minutes before my 7am tee time, no starter, cart worker and the clubhouse is locked with the lights off. People are just helping themselves to their own carts and moving on. One worker just bringing carts out says to us we can just group up and go when we’re ready. Not asking times or group size.

No sand in any bunkers. Greens had tons of ballmarks in them from no repairing. Tee boxes were kind of rough too.

Last time I played here the course was in great condition. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about this round.

Rough around the edges

Fairways and some greens average. Tee boxes awful, bunkers and traps with standing water and weeds. Cart paths in need of repair. No spending apparent other than on mowing fairways and greens.

Horrible conditions

Used to be a decent nice course. Now absolute horrific, sands are a lake, tee boxes are garbage. Greens were horrible maybe 2 out of 18 were kinda decent. Will never return unless major work is done

ripoff dont play unless you get a $25 rate !

the East Course exposes itself as a ripoff. evidently they are selling this side of course and putting in housing and have stopped most of the maintenance in all facets without alerting unsuspecting golfers.. majority of tee boxes terrible.. the sand traps absoultely ignorned forever! .. greens ok.. the cart paths are outright dangerous.. should get a chiropractor on staff after round.. such a shame use to be a quality fabulous course.. staff should be ashamed to charge fees... we paid $38 but had a hot deal.. unsuspecting golfers will pay upwards of $75 -90 for a crappy unkempt golf course youve been warned
