Letting it go
Course is in okay condition. They are selling it for development so no money is going in except basic maintenance. The bunkers are packed clay with not a speck of sand.
Needs Some TLC
Sand traps were nothing but mud traps. No marshal seen on the course. . . 18 holes took almost 5 hrs on a Weds!
Played East Course. Great layout however the condition needs some TLC. There were some brown patches on the fairways. Bunkers were not maintained at all. Weeds growing in every one and not sandy at all.
No traps
All traps had no sand It was dirt and mud. Some traps had weeds growing in them. Rest of course was in great shape Would definitely play this course again. Great track and fairway and greens In great shape. Just have tp play traps as ground under repair.
Good course needs some refinement
RB East (there is a private 18 holes)is a good daily fee course. I like the back 9 over the front 9.
My only issue with the course is the state of the bunkers. They need work. The course Mgmt also needs to police players when they disregard raking the bunkers after use. Too many lazy golfers do not show etiquette and rake the traps for the next group. There are plenty of rakes!
THE DIRT TRAPS ON THE EAST WERE HORRIBLE
ALL I CAN SAY IS PLEASE SPEND SOME MONEY AND FILL UP THE DIRT TRAPS WITH SOME REAL SAND AND PUT IN SOME BALL CLEANERS AND WATER CONTAINERS. IT'S LIKE A DESERT OUT THERE IN THE SUMMER AND THERE IS NO WATER AT ANY OF THE HOLES. I DID SEE ONE OF THOSE BARREL HOLDERS FOR WATER BUT IT WAS EMPTY. YOU'D BETTER BRING SOME IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING HERE. THIS PLACE NEEDS SOME TLC. YOU GOTTA SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY.
SAND (DIRT TRAPS) ARE HORRIBLE
The sand traps were all full of water so the irrigation was horrible. It really doesn't even look like sand. It looks like dirt. Is it that expensive to drop one truckload of nice white sand in each sand trap to spice them up a bit? Sand is cheap. We have it down the entire coast and it looks like much better sand. Enough of the sand or whatever it is. The course on the East was fine. The greens and everything else were nice. Of course I would play there again but I'll just have to focus more on staying out of the dirt traps
Not Worth the $
Past few years since property will now become a housing development for the public course, the amount of attention has gone way down. Traps are poor at best, unmaintained, greens scratchy and fairway areas burned out despite all the rain we've had, and clearly not worth the amount of money anymore. What a shame, was a premier course for many years.
Sad to see the condition
RB - East WAS one of the best public courses in New Jersey. It is in terrible shape with weeds everywhere, bunkers are just puddles & rocks and bug infested. Stay Away!
I don't know how they get away charging $ 95 for a round. Clubhouse and staff though is very friendly.
West (Private) is still in good shape.
Fair
Bunkers appear to be untouched all year. Filled with casual water, weeds off all sorts, grass, rocks ECT. Only thing missing was sand. Tee boxes a little bear up as well. Fairways had considerable fungus. On three plus side greens rolled well. Heard they were selling 18 holes too a developer.
Good Round
I have always enjoyed Royce Brook, a nice track in a quiet location. The public course is nice, but there has been no sand in the MANY sand traps all season, plus there has been water in many of them for months- not good. We realize half or more of this course is closing down because of the housing development they unfortunately agreed to, but really, how much does sand cost?!? They took a great course and made it difficult to enjoy with these rock hard or flooded traps
