Clay Traps
Sad to see the way sand traps have been completely neglected on this course -- there is literally no sand! Quite a few traps were small ponds. The course has a lot of traps, and none of them had any sand, not even the traps around the greens. It's a shame because the rest of the course is in very good shape. This situation with the traps has been going on for years now, just getting worse. Without sand in the traps, a round of golf here should not be over $35 with cart, and it is routinely a lot more.
Consistent
Course is in good condition, greens are great, fairways are great, bunkers are terrible, more of a $30-40 course. Will be back
Royce Brook East
Great layout for this course that must have been a gem in its day. Fairways and greens in good shape but the numerous bunkers that are key features of the design, have not been maintained and several were inundated with water from recent rainfall. Disappointed but still a fun round overall .
No sand
Sand traps were mostly filled with water or muddy.
Front 9 moved along well but somehow the back was all back up.
poor pace and no bunkers
Bunkers were in poor condition, some were non existent, unerstand with rain they can get flooded but these were just bare and grass growing in the middle.
Bunkers
This was one of my favorite courses. The bunker upkeep wasn’t so good two years ago and seem to have gotten worse. Until some care is made on this I would not recommend it. The outside restaurant area has also not been kept up
Okay
Course is great
Only complaint is the bunkers are complete trash filled with water
Other than that the course is great and good value
Bunkers????
Fantastic layout with good fairway and tee box conditions. However, how a place with great overall conditions not have a single bunker in service and playable? Every single bunker from fairway to green side was red clay, no sand, and most had a foot of water and mud in them or weeds growing out of them. Overall it was a nice course but I wouldn’t pay $95 to play there again until they renovate the bunkers.
Bunkers are a joke
They shouldn’t charge that much given that the bunkers are the worst I’ve ever seen.
Awful bunkers and carts
I played the east course yesterday, 9/3/23. While the layout is challenging, the value for the price is not worth it. I paid only $51 as some sort of online special (about 1/2 of the usual green fee), but even that was overpaying for the condition of the bunkers. Don't believe the pictures of the bunkers on the website or in ads. NONE of them were what I would deem playable. If they weren't flooded, they were dried mud for a surface with weeds growing in them. Not what I would expect from a course that normally charges twice what I paid for a round. Also, the carts left much to be desired. My cart died on the 4th hole, and I had to be rescued after calling the clubhouse. No problem, these things happen I thought. By the 5th hole, my rescue cart also died. After another call to the clubhouse, I was told to lift up the seat, flip a switch on the battery off and on again, and then that would work. That did work but I had to do it at least another 10-15 times for the rest of the round. Again, for the price they charge, one would expect much better.
This used to be such a nice course.
This used to one of my favorite courses to play but haven’t played it in over a year. Played it today and this course took a really bad turn. Pace a play is terrible and bunkers were a joke and unplayable. Greens and tee boxes were in decent shape but the fairways was hit or miss. It’s such a fun track and pity to see is so poorly managed.
There is no bunker maintenance
The East course is beautifully laid out and used to be one of the top public courses you can play in NJ. However, it looks like this part of the course may be turning into housing developments soon…? and therefore the grounds crew is clearly putting zero effort into maintaining their bunkers. The fairways, tee boxes, rough, and greens were all either acceptable to good condition but the bunkers were atrocious. They are either completely dried up concrete feeling mud or filled with standing water that’s becoming basically a pond. Many of the bunkers even have vegetation growing now… basically no sand remaining. With these conditions, the course / pro shop should warn you of the current situation. At the prices they charge, having no playable bunkers is not worthwhile.
I really hope they don’t build a housing development there and start maintaining the course better again. It’s definitely one of the nicer layouts in the area.
