Hole #9 "Vista" Photo submitted by David2342364 on 07/17/2013
Very interesting course with challenging hole … needs much better pace-of-play oversight.
I have known about Sky View for years but always preferred the Crystal Springs collection for some reason. That was a mistake. While Sky View is on the shorter side, my playing partner reminded me of the high slope rating which, of course, means virtually everything. The fairways are often tight, they are mostly fair. No two holes are the same. The par 5 on the front is a dog leg left with two virtually blind shots on the layup and the approach. But by some good calculations and luck, my medium length tee shot landed on the fairway and my 7 iron lay up - helped by the down slope - landed perfectly for the approach to a green about 150 yards below my feet! Wow. It was a fairly easy 8 iron and a two putt I believe - did I say it is a short course?
The GPS on the carts were critical in helping managing play and knowing where the group in front of us was located to avoid hitting into them.
The only real blemish was the intolerably slow play. By the 6th hole, we were tracking at 5 1/2 hour pace of play for 18 holes in a cart. Painful!
I did call into the pro shop to complain and see if they can do something about it, and they knew that the 2nd group ahead of us had a completely empty hole ahead of them. They did send out a ranger but I just wish the ranger instructed the slow group to move ahead one hole and save us all some 15 or 20 minutes. I am sure the slow group would have been very unhappy, but it would have made at least three other groups, including my group, thrilled!
For that, I just cannot give it full 5 stars as an overall rating. I would be hesitant to return unless I knew I could afford the amount of time to play.
Scenic Views
Beautiful sweeping views. Tough hilly course, many different ball lies that make shots a real challenge. If you are not bothered by that, you'll have a great time.
Nasty Ranger
Ranger absent until back 9 where he yelled at us to hurry up even though we were waiting behind another group who hadn’t teed off. Gave attitude and nastiness while lacking complete common sense.
Not a bad course, Not a top course in NJ but a fairly easy course
Not a bad place. Course is fairly easy for the advanced golfer. Couple blind shots give somewhat of a challenge , otherwise straight forward course. There are much better options in .north jersey for better value., But its worth a play.
Challanging Layout
Great course with lots of elevation changes. Some holes require accurate shot selection. Greens are large and undulating.
Beautiful views and course…..mixed review
The course and views were beautiful, however the cart system was annoying as it would shut down carts in potentially dangerous situations. There is a visual warning on the screen however this is easily missed while navigating. An audible warning would improve this system significantly.
Cart Path Only
I played Skyview on a 97 degree day. It had rained two days prior to that. The staff mentioned nothing about the course being cart path only and it wasn’t till we started playing that we the GPS in the golf carts automatically shut the cart down when trying to drive off the cart path. I was playing with three other gentleman all over the age of 65, multiple knee surgeries. These poor guys were forced to climb all over an extremely hilly golf course in the 97 degree heat. This course over charges and doesn’t even let you actually ride.
