Best time ever....

Without a doubt the best course I’ve played in a very long time. With the exception of the pace of play; (which was solely due to the foursome in front of us), everything was perfect. Greens were flawless and seriously fast- but rolled true. Scenic surroundings and flawless fairways. I can’t wait to return. The staff was very very friendly and accommodating. The at prime was delicious as well. 5 stars all around in my book.

Country club for a day

Saratoga National personifies the "country club for a day" model of the modern daily fee. Everything about the experience and facilities is top class. They also make you pay for it in peak season ($220).
The clubhouse and patio are beautiful, built for entertaining, complemented by a strong food-and-beverage operation.
The course is quite intimidating the first time around. It's endless target golf over wetlands and yawning bunkers. Tall reeds guard fairways and greens. GPS helps guide you when tall reeds in the marshes block the view to safety. Over the years, the member (preferred) tees have moved up. It's wise to stick with playing at 6,200 yards. Otherwise balls could disappear by the dozen.
The hardest holes are the four par 5s, all littered with bunkers and water hazards. The most visual challenge might be the island green at no. 15.
You'll love your day at Saratoga National, even if you don't like your score.

Top level course and high end experience

This is a private club type experience at a public course. The course is very good. It utilizes the rolling land and water and marshes well. Lots of holes have vegetation or water cutting the fairways, with more than a few holes taking driver out of your hands and requiring a lay up off the tee. The holes near the lake are excellent, both aesthetically and to play. The bunkering is well done in a natural style. Nice greens with interesting slopes but nothing too severe. It is a very nice course to walk, except for the long distance from the 9th green to 10th tee. It seems that many more holes have trouble left rather than right and play to the right much more often. The greens also often have trouble on one side and are open on the other, which I like. The par-3s all seem to be about the same distance. Fairways are decently wide and if you stay away from the water or marshes, even balls that miss are recoverable. The mounding around the greens and off the fairways is subtle and nicely done. The facilities and practice areas are terrific. Overall this is a very good course and a top-level experience.

Very Good Course

The course is very good. I did find the stretch of water holes, right by the entry way of course, to be annoying for that reason. The holes aren't bad, but I do wonder how natural they are. For design, the course has good variety and stays playable in windy conditions. The turf conditions were better than what one should reasonably expect for early season. Sadly, I have to say that my "Recommend This Course to a Friend" must have conditions...for the $80 I paid today, the course is fine. Peak rates for off-season times are $120 and that's pushing the limits for value. Peak rates are $220 during the summer. For that price, there's just no way I'd recommend it to anyone.

Complete golf experience

Saratoga National is a superior golf course located just shy of the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Groups who play here are given the ultimate treatment from the moment you unload your bags. Carts are top of the line which have onboard coolers stocked with ice and water, ball and club washers and a great GPS system which is so sophisticated it alerts you on the seventh hole that you should order some food to be ready at the turn(get the cheesesteak). Well why not? How about a cigar at the turn as well? They have those and they even hook you up with a complimentary cigar cutter. Before your round you should warm up on the great practice facilities which include a limitless range, short game area and large putting green. The 1st to 18th holes at Saratoga are just perfect. Course conditions are excellent and its location in upstate New York is great because you really do get a feeling of remoteness that is otherwise absent when playing in heaveily populated areas. The course is very difficult but if you're not having a great round try your best to just have fun because it is such a unique and enjoyable experience. Any memory of frustration is eclipsed by the course and amenities. The clubhouse is gigantic. The food and drink at the 19th hole was, as expected, great. Out back overlooking the 18th green was a huge stone patio and bar with a waterfall. We played the course in April and it was still chilly so no one was populating that area but my Dad assured me in the summer it was quite a scene on a hot day. The fees run pretty high in the summer months but early spring isn't that bad, you'll get the royal treatment either way. Can't wait to play again.
