Good, reliable, well-kept city course
Douglaston is a frequent visit for me, and I love the place. Definitely the best-kept out of the city courses I've played so far. On this day, there was a lot of temporary water, but that's largely thanks to recent massive storms. It was actively being worked on, and the conditions were still quite good overall. Layout is challenging with a handful of forced carries, blind shots, and side-sloped fairways in some areas. Fun course and a great option to have in the neighborhood.
It is always a fun to play this short 18h course.
Even though located in heavy populated areas
it offers hilly terrain, waters and some nice city views. The staffs are very friendly and cool.
The fairways and greens are kept in decent condition. Good to have this jewel in NYC.
Nice course but pace of play too slow
Course is fine, however there should be a marshal to patrol the pace of play, took almost 5.5 hours to play all 18 holes.
Really enjoyable
We had a great day at Douglaston. It’s a really nice course. After several days of rain the green were slow and the grass was a little high. There were a few backups at some of the holes but that’s to be expected.
Wet Golfing
Rainy misty outing, no one on the course except us few die hards. Good round!
Drainage system needs upgrading
After three days continuous rain, many parts of the course became muddy. I think they need updating the drainage system.
Playing pace
Too many uneducated etiquette playing,
they should learn how to play golf not interrupting other players with proper etiquette,
Normal round for a 18 holes play was 3 and half hours in this course, but recently I experienced 5 hours.
Therefore round after 3 pm always incomplete 2 - 3 holes due to the aforementioned people playing, who they held their play and delayed other players.
The course strongly requires “ranger” who able to accelerate people to play accordingly.
Poor experience
The starter was extremely rude. “Looks like John Madden” with a tan. I’ve played this course many times and HE decided to approach me on the back nine to tell me to “hurry up”. I’m an experience golfer and have never been talked to in this manner. Also to clear things up, there was no one behind me for me to be in a hurry so I was very confused.
Shameful!
I booked this course via golfnow and paid for it in advance. At no point in the process was I made aware that the course was being renovated. The greens were either being aerated or moved. It was impossible to use your putter. 3 of the 18 greens were playable. When I checked in and upgraded to a motor cart, none of the staff mentioned the condition of the course. Golf should have been discounted.
Another Banger
Another great day for golf, the only hiccup is the greens are being aerated.
Best course in Queens
Nothing beats Douglaston Golf Course! The course is always well kept. The pace of play, on Labor Day, was shockingly quick for a holiday. No waiting at any of the holes and it made for a great day even as the temperature rose throughout.
Starter was very rude.
Seemed like the starter had an attitude and was pretty rude. My first time being there paid $57 to walk, checked in and he just shrug me off as you're too early like I don't know my time slot. After a few minutes I decided that I'll just pay $22 and ride instead, as I approached to inform him ill ride instead, his response was, "well, you got to go inside and pay for a cart" (which I had already done), I'm curious to know which golf course gives free golf carts. So just because of this guy it's the last time I'll visit that course.
