Ravenwood Golf Course
About
Ravenwood Golf Club is situated in the Finger Lakes region in western New York. It's one of the most popular public championship courses in the Rochester region. Robin Nelson designed the course in 2002. He utilized the gently undulating landscape to seamlessly connect the holes to one another so that the whole golf course has a natural flow. The front nine is gentler than the back, where the par 3s present formidable tests. The water hazards on the back are particularly challenging. The golf course finishes with one of its most memorable holes. Ravenwood's par-5 18th has a green that's tucked into the woods with the hill behind it forming a natural amphitheater. A challenging array of seven strategically placed bunkers guards the green and approach area.

slow play
Played on Friday morning and it was a joy .But when I came back on Sunday with a friend it was like playing the town goat lot.it took us 4 hours and 45 minutes to play first 15 holes. we had enough and decided to call it a day. I then informed the club pro about our displeasure with the pace ,he told me its Sunday 5 plus hours is normal and gave me the impression I should go elsewhere. nice call .In summary ,expect a 5 hour round unless you play with the members on Saturday morning. And did I say the club pro is a bit of a jerk.
Quality course.
This is one of the best, if not the best in the area! Fairways and greens are great even with the wet conditions we have had lately. This course drains very well and is always in great condition. I had a hard time in the sand but that was probably a combination of me and wet sand. Normally the sand is pretty fluffy for upstate NY.
A little bit of everything good
Sometimes, less is more. I can’t necessarily point to any one hole or even course characteristic of Ravenwood that makes me so fond of the course; it’s more the sustained quality of the holes, one after the other.
It’s still pretty early in the season, but the course was in great shape (despite quite a bit of recent rain, which dampened the roll on the fairways… but not my enthusiasm for this track). The greens were rolling well and the fairways and tee boxes were manicured and in stellar shape.
While the course is fairly open and playable, the rough can be pretty thick and grabby so accuracy is still at a premium here. Other than 12 and 18 there really isn’t a ton of bunkering, but what is out there is well placed in potential landing areas. My score for the twelfth hole reflected the mistake of playing a little too much of a draw on my second shot as I found not one, but two, of the bunkers that are strung out along the left hand side of the fairway. Similarly, I plugged my ball into the top of a bunker on 17 when the water on the right hand side of the green caused me to club up a little and play away from it; just good course craftsmanship.
My favorite hole was probably the par four third, which doglegs around a long pond, defying you to bite off more of the corner than you can chew. Eighteen is a really nice finishing hole as well, certain to make you want to come back and play again.
The staff was warm and engaging as we chatted with the starter for about 15 minutes as we came off of 18. Pace of play was good both for me and for the people I saw coming through the turn as I was wrapping up my round. We’ll play Ravenwood again if we are in the region.
Great course; food & drink service needed
My first time playing this golf course. Interesting and challenging layout in good shape early in the season.
Having restaurant and bar closed at 6:30 AM is disappointing but not having any coffee available after making the turn after 7:30 AM is very poor guest service. The facility is beautiful and a lot of people in the area would be very happy to work in the restaurant and bar.
Outstanding Golf Course
Excellent course layout and conditions.
A great place to play in the fall.
Few leaves, but pay attention to where your ball lands if out of the fairway. Rough is thick and a challenge to hit out if. Greens are fast and rolling. Five sets of tees. Course is beautifully maintained even late in the year. Bring your A game.
Great fall round
Last minute afternoon round. Staff was great with good set of rentals. Conditions good for this time of year.
Ravenwood
Best Links style course in the area. A must play.
Fall Golfing
We were visiting Rochester for the weekend and wanted to golf (wife and me). I did a little research and it looked like Ravenwood was a very nice course. It was in fabulous shape, the course was beautiful and the grass was lush. The fairways, tee blocks and even the rough was in great shape. The greens were like carpets and rolled really nice and held the ball nice on the approach shots. They did a good job keeping the leaves off the fairways and even the practice area was in great shape. The staff was friendly and the starter (Ron) was really nice and helpful. I will make sure I play here again when I'm in the area, a really nice coarse, even for players at different levels.
This course has great features.
The course was in great shape. The staff was very friendly and informative. If you have a chance I would not pass up playing this course.
Fun course
Great golf course fun to play, layout is not that dificult but the thick rough made the round challenging. very nice facilities overall great golf course
Amazing
Outstanding conditions, imacculate greens..beatiful layout and design.Highly recommend this facility.
Experience at Ravenwood
The course was I excellent condition and the staff was very friendly. The rate on Golf Now was very reasonable. We really enjoyed this round of golf and look forward to another round at Ravenwood!
Nice course
This course was a great surprise. Didn't know much about it. Played it and the course has a few different tee boxes varying from 6200 yards to over 7000 yards. Good for all skill levels. Staff was super friendly from when I walked in until I left.
Course was in good shape. Greens were in good shape. Bunkers were well maintained.
I would recommend this course.
So average
Everything about this course is so average. The rough was not in very good condition, although the greens were very good. The par fives are rewarded with big drives. But in the end I just don't see why this course is ranked so high. Personally I would just drive the extra 20 minutes to Bristol harbor; there about the same price.
Worth the drive
Course was in great shape despite the lack of rain we have had. Drove in from Syracuse and it was worth it. Compares to Timber Banks in my area. I would definitely play this course again.
Ravenwood is hands down better then Bristol Harbor! That track is like playing two different courses.
