Great Rock Golf Club
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses
Before we went here I got nervous from reading all the comments about the rough and greens conditions but after playing this course there’s nothing to worry about. Course was in good shape and maybe if people started fixing their ball marks on the greens they wouldn’t have issues. Greens were fast but not bumpy. Would play again and the layout makes the course play longer.

Good shape, no food or drink on course
I've played this course many times throughout the years. It's an interesting course with lots of cool holes. The course was in pretty good shape, however, there were limited refreshments available. Just chips and Powerade, water, etc. in the pro shop - then they sent someone out on the course. OK, I guess the issue was that they had no beer available.

Had a 824 tee time today. Play was fast but course is in horrible shape. Rough and fairways were a total mess more like a cow pasture rather than a golf course. No food or drinks available. Zero drinking water on the course. Traps were not raked or even weeded. Greens were ok. So much potential but needs work

Last Year At Great Rock
The course is okay shape. Fairways were great. Greens were not good. Rough is high. Its definitely last year at Great Rock.
Hello, GolfBJV. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Horrible conditions. As someone who worked in the golf business for 27 years this was deplorable, Greens were bad and not mowed. Also getting on to some the greens was difficult because the were NOT MOWED. Overall it was a bad experience. In fact a group let me play through them I asked them how they liked the course. Negative to that!
Later as I was playing the 18th hole and I saw them all skip the last 3 holes and drove in.
As a low handicap player I found this course totally unfair. I pity the high handicapper trying to play Great Rock.
Thank you for taking the time to review the course. We take single star feedback very serious at our course. You are welcome to comment further or reach out to our team in the golf shop. We always appreciate the feedback. Thank you for playing Great Rock Golf Club.
Course is getting bad. 1 inch off fairway and your ball is lost. I found 3 ticks on me the next day. Not going back

Course Conditions and Maintenance
We had one of the earlier tee times at 630am and we got to the first hole and we said "they didn't even cut the grass. Maybe it is just the first hole." Nope, the whole course was not cut, the rough looked like it hasn't been cut in a month. The sprinklers were on within the first 3-4 holes we played, I had to hit the ball through them. The cart paths weren't paved. They didn't have a path from the cart path to the tee box, I was walking through weeds that were up to my knees. Not kidding. If I paid $40 for this course, I wouldn't be mad, but I paid $80 to walk through high grass to get to tee boxes, putt on bad greens. My buddy found 2 ticks on him walking to a tee box. I should have gotten my money back. I will not be going back to this place even if they offered me a free round and dinner

Not worth the price
Terrible condition... tee boxes were as high as 2nd cut rough and have to walk through high fescue to get on/off tee box..

This is not a course to begin on. Lots of hills, elevated greens and tee boxes. Players need to be able to play "ready golf" so as to not hold up play behind. Having said that, the course is challenging but not impossible to enjoy.
Thank you for the 4-Star review, we appreciate the great feedback regarding our course conditions, especially after the maintenance we have received. Thanks for coming out and we hope to see you again soon.
Played it because it was a $35 hot deal and prior reviews said the course had been improved. They were wrong. The greens looked like winter greens in December with tree tea pod droppings everywhere. The cart paths were in terrible shape. The bunkers were soft but had plenty of pebbles. We had an 11:48 tee time but was told to go right out upon arrival as “it’s dead today”. Dead was right. There was only a twosome in front of us and nobody behind us the whole round. Great not to be pushed but maybe the course conditions were the reason “it was dead”. Will not be coming back.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us with 3 stars. We always strive for a 5 star experience, so all of your feedback is appreciated. Please feel free to contact the club directly if you feel that there are specifics we can improve on. We hope to have you back at the course in the future.
Third world country course!
Sloppy looking and unkempt course conditions. Grass not cut. Water in bunkers. Weeds up to your shins on the tee boxes. Shame, considering it is on Eastern L.I. Highlights includes pace and finding boat loads of golf balls. Unless management sorts this out, I will never play here nor will anyone I mention it to.
We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. We appreciate your patience as the course has received a lot of play this peak season. As the course continues to transition we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Very poor condition. Tee boxes, fairways, greens, bunkers all in bad shape.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recovery the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We hope to see you again soon.
This course is under appreciated
The course conditions were the best they have been in years. Congratulations to the staff
Thank you for the 4-Star review, we appreciate the great feedback regarding our course conditions, especially after the long winter we received. Thanks for coming out and we hope to see you again soon.
Nice course for the North Folk area.
Greens were a little ill but I attribute that to the rainy weather.. it plays very long when wet! For the money it’s a great layout and I will definitely come back when it warms up. Great staff and a true gem of a course - shot makers will love iit!
