Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Beautiful and challenging
I like this course, it is difficult for me, but I plan to keep laying it to get better with uneven ground. Did better this time than last time. The staff are so nice!
Nice course
I always enjoy playing here. The course is challenging and fun to play. 3 stars on conditions due to the greens were aerated the day I played which kills the putting game, and two fairways were under repair. Great to see they do care and maintain this beautiful course.
This Course is back to where it once was!!!!
Over the years this course went from GREAT to a dump and it's now back!
Thank goodness the owners put the staffing that is required to run a golf course.
The fairways were like a Delea Sid Farm! The fairways are pristine and divot free!
The ruff is improving along with the traps.
The greens are divot free and we're freahly aerated.
The restaurant is tops and has a great 19th hole.
I am Thankful that Great Rock is BACK!!!
This track keeps me coming back
Great layout and I always look forward to the restaurant after a round. Third time playing and every time this course has beat the heck out of this bogey golfer. Fast and moving greens. Just once I wanted to stick it on the greens, ahrggh.. more three putts than I wanted.
An interesting layout the rough was thick had hard tile locating ball if you hit in the rough greens were fast staff was freindly we will play this course again
FAST GREENS
THE GREENS ARE TO FAST FOR THE AVG. GOLFER. THEY ALL 3 PUTT EVERY HOLE, AND IT TAKES THAT MUCH LONGER TO PLAY.
Nice track
Nice track. Greens ok. Fairways and 2nd cut need some help.
Under three hours
When I met the starter I was told they were ahead of schedule and the three players with the same tee time had already teed off. I caught up to them at the ninth hole and they let me play through. I waited a bit on a few tees and fairways but the next group soon let me play through as well. Very good golf etiquette. I finished the round in under three hours.
As always a fun course with great conditions. A quick beer in the clubhouse and I was home in plenty of time for dinner with the family. I wish every round was this pleasant.
Putting challenge
Fast greens with plenty of slopes gives a professional experience. It was wet but only misted. The rough was wet making it essential to hit the fairway. Enjoyed.
Excellent layout - course needs some TLC, but management appears to be spending some money on maintenance.
What a difference a year makes!
Played here almost exactly one year ago and then crossed it off my list. It was like the grounds crew was on strike. You needed the flagstick in the hole from 15 feet to see the cup. Areas around and in the bunkers unkept with weeds and fairways all chopped up with large areas of fungus. It was a disaster. Took a chance today since no one I know has played here lately. Now it is in superb condition like the old days when it first opened. Greens lightning fast and fairways and bunkers in top shape and manicured well. If you can putt these greens, you can putt anywhere. A very pleasant shock today. Always liked the variety of the layout. Will absolutely return and tell me pals to join me. W. Ryan
