Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Played it because it was a $35 hot deal and prior reviews said the course had been improved. They were wrong. The greens looked like winter greens in December with tree tea pod droppings everywhere. The cart paths were in terrible shape. The bunkers were soft but had plenty of pebbles. We had an 11:48 tee time but was told to go right out upon arrival as “it’s dead today”. Dead was right. There was only a twosome in front of us and nobody behind us the whole round. Great not to be pushed but maybe the course conditions were the reason “it was dead”. Will not be coming back.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us with 3 stars. We always strive for a 5 star experience, so all of your feedback is appreciated. Please feel free to contact the club directly if you feel that there are specifics we can improve on. We hope to have you back at the course in the future.
Third world country course!
Sloppy looking and unkempt course conditions. Grass not cut. Water in bunkers. Weeds up to your shins on the tee boxes. Shame, considering it is on Eastern L.I. Highlights includes pace and finding boat loads of golf balls. Unless management sorts this out, I will never play here nor will anyone I mention it to.
We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. We appreciate your patience as the course has received a lot of play this peak season. As the course continues to transition we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Course codition
Very poor condition. Tee boxes, fairways, greens, bunkers all in bad shape.

This course is under appreciated
The course conditions were the best they have been in years. Congratulations to the staff

Thank you for the 4-Star review!
Nice course for the North Folk area.
Greens were a little ill but I attribute that to the rainy weather.. it plays very long when wet! For the money it’s a great layout and I will definitely come back when it warms up. Great staff and a true gem of a course - shot makers will love iit!
We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. We look forward to having you back!
The pits
Traps covered in crab grass. Greens Horrendous. Fairways or greens have not been watered god only knows when. Everything is closed except the bathrooms. To bad it used to be a good place to play

Not what it used to be
The course has definitely gone downhill since I have been there 2 to 3 years ago. The entire course has been neglected

Let Go
Worst condition ever. Looks like the maintenance staff went on strike. Bunkers had more grass than sand. Most greens were beat up. Tee boxs had more crabgrass than my lawn and were not even mowed.
This course used to be really nice. What a shame.

Golf course condition
Got to be the worst course on Long island
Fairways in terrible condition
Weeds in sand traps
Unfortunately can't say one good thing
They should either fix it or close it

Course is in terrible shape
The fairway is 100% crab grass. Greens are in rough shape and the rough areas aren't maintained at all. Course is in terrible shape.

Great Rock 7/19
4th time running this course this year, and it was at its worst condition today. Crab grass and mushrooms growing on multiple tee boxes. Greens yellowing in some spots and moves really fast. This course has a great layout and is very nice when maintained but it seems as if they are on same maintenance plan now in a heat wave in mid july as they were when I played it in April and May. Wouldnt recommend it in its current condition but at its finest its one of the best publics in Suffolk and they offer randomly discounted times on golfnow 7 days a week along with hot deals which makes it even more worth it but not right now.

Course getting away
This used to be one of my favorite places to play on LI. There is a general lack of maintenance throughout the whole course. The greens are not as tight as they once were. The bunkers are shaggy. The tee boxes are not cut well. Hopefully they do a better job quickly or this course will go way downhill fast.

So very sad to see this course in TOTAL DISREPAIR!
From the moment you drive up and see weeds growing everywhere including through bushes and near the clubhouse, you know somethings wrong. Starter is sour, the pro shop is empty and there’s no one really playing the course. The course is in shambles weeds everywhere, moss growing on the greens, greens in total disrepair, tees with 5 inches of grass. from the moment you drive up and see weeds growing everywhere including through bushes and near the clubhouse you know somethings wrong. There is poison ivy all over the rough, poison oak, rough that’s totally out of control, , sand traps that are empty, sand traps full of rocks, sand traps with grass growing in them. In a nut shell the course is in terrible shape. Such a shame for what used to be a beautiful track. Great Rock is done!

First time
Staff was great
Course layout is incredible
Clubhouse was nice
Pace was great
Course is horribly maintained
Lost balls if hit off just off the fairway
Course if maintained could be my favorite on the island but until the do some work on the holes I won’t be coming back

Course in Terrible Condition
The course is being poorly maintained. Tee boxes were not mowed, we were teeing off in grass that was rough high. (Had an afternoon tee time) The Greens were like putting on concrete. Bunkers not raked today either, one of them had a lake inside. Extremely disappointed, will not play here again.
