Great except for greens
great course layout; fairways and tees were in fabulous shape; sand traps also nice. Only disappointment were the greens.
Great course, worth the money? Not sure
I played the meadows and fairways 18, course was nice and well maintained. Tee boxes were a bit out of shape, they are very small for the amount of people who play the course. Definitely one of the better courses in lower New York, but for the price I don’t think I’d play here again. Other similar courses for about half the price.
Best public Course in Hudson Valley
Centennial has 27 holes of incredible golf.
The facilities are by far the best in the area with two large putting and chipping areas, bunkers and a driving range where you can hit off the grass Friday-Sunday, mats Monday-Thursday.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Drop your clubs in front and they’ll bring your clubs to the driving range with a cart. The landscaping crew keep centennial looking meticulous.
There are some capital improvements which need to be made, like electric carts with GPS. The current gas carts suck and have no GPS.
Also, the hitting mats need more consistent tees, you’d need to break your own tees to hit driver, which, for the price, rubber tees should be provided.
Perfect Day
The course was in great shape and the fall day was perfect! Lots of downhill and uphill lies and the greens were very fast.
Played as a single with 3 other experienced players and we finished in 4 hours and 10 minutes. A Perfect day!
Great scenery
Good course. Very challenging. A little pricey compared to surrounding courses.
Great course layout , but greens messy w/ nature debri
Great course layout - a bit pricey ($85-115)
for not being able to take carts of path for wetness.
Should be a discount for those conditions ,
also most greens had small tree debri everywhere
A Fall MUST
What a beautiful course in the fall! In pretty good shape for all the rain that we've had!!
Today it was cart path only and the bunkers will need a bit of repair, but the course conditions seem to be well taken care of and a lot of work has gone into upkeep this course with all the rain that we have had.
The staff is friendly, especially the starter and cart guys. The restaurant was pretty good too!
Take advantage of their off the grass, driving range, and great putting greens.
One thing to note the cart girl doesn't have any warm beverages which would be a great idea as it's getting cold, a little windy and sometimes rainy it would be nice to have hot chocolate, and hot toddys available for purchase from the cart girl. 😉
Need Rangers
Generally, a great course but when they go Cart Path Only it may be best to avoid it. A lot of walking from cart paths a long way from the fairways. That said, it’s doable. The problem lies with the pace of play. Usually not much of an issue but when it does come up there’s no ranger around to push the play. Last round we had to quit as darkness rolled in and we had four holes to go after being on the course for almost 5 hours. When we finally drove into the clubhouse we saw the last four holes vacant with not a golfer in sight. Our two foursomes ahead of us was incredibly slow.
Fix that one issue and we recommend this course highly. Always in great shape with true greens. Just remember, better short than long on approach. Good food, good staff.
Lengthy round
While the price, conditions and course were all great, our pace of play was horrific - six hours to complete a round. Two of our foursome packed it in after 15 holes and with the sun beginning to set. They called us upon reaching the clubhouse and informed us that the foursome just on the green at 16 had no one on either hole ahead of them. There was also a foursome between us and that group. The two of us finished all 18 in the twilight at about 6:40 p.m. Even when the staff was informed, no ranger was sent out to speed up play - in fact, we didn't see a course ranger our entire round. If they do not do something to ensure a quicker pace of play, they will lose customers - especially at the regular rate they charge to play (one hundred-plus dollars, we paid the senior rate)
Gimmicky
The extreme hills, staircases and needless cart path only holes make it a misery.
Tough pin placement, easier tee box locations
Post aerated conditions but the course is otherwise well maintained.
Pace of play horrible
Tee boxes were chewed up, uneven. 2:50min for 9 holes at 6:50am. Greens aerrated with no discounted rate.
Golf carts are slow and no gps
Staff very friendly but not worth $150 price tag for what we got
Course is getting rundown
I have always loved Centennial, the course has a great design, and the greens are quite challenging. I just played it and it seems like they’re letting the course go. I was in the Teebox and thought I was standing on something and noticed that there was just bare ground underneath my foot. Some of the tee boxes were quite patchy (grass/dirt). The carts do not have GPS and while riding down the cart path you feel like you’re off roading. Mind you, this course gets a premium for a round of golf so one would expect to find GPS is in the carts. I booked through GolfNow and while they would normally give you range balls if you purchased directly through them, they nickel and dime you for range balls when you book through GolfNow ($10 for small bucket of range balls. Finally, I have used a lot of websites to book tee-times, but theirs often makes you click a separate link. It’s just kind of surprising in this day and age where probably most tee-times are booked online, their website is so crummy.
