The course was a fun challenge
The greens were recently aerated however were cut and rolled prior to my play. Overall the course was fine and would recommend it
Greens were still filling in from aeration
Course was in good shape other than the greens were recently aerated. Pace was good, there was no starter, pro shop was not a friendly place to be, overall good experience though
Balcomie comes to Long Island
Very sweet Scottish links style course. Smartly laid out to challenge you with risk reward. Course plays longer than its yardage because of wind, bunkering and very sophisticated greens. I will enjoy playing there again.
Would have been perfect experience if staff smiled more.
Poor greens
Didn't have a visible starter present, kind of a free for all at the beginning. Poor players playing from the blue tees holding up play with no one moving play along! Greens were horrendous! Should have been reduced price somewhere in the forty dollar range.
ugh
booked a round on golf now for 55 bucks which included lunch. it was described as a pre aeration special, which I had never heard of even though I have played for 46 of my 58 years. I called the course after I booked and asked them how the greens were. pretty good was the reply. when we arrived I walked pass the practice green and it was full of aeration holes. when did you aerate. about a week ago was the reply. how come I have a pre aeration special for today. his reply was a dismissive post aeration and told me I had it wrong. at that point I pulled my receipt from golf now out of my pocket and showed it to the guy. I asked him if he spelled post.... pre. his head fell down to his shoes and he mumbled someone screwed up. it was a nice layout and the fairways were excellent but I was lost putting. on 2 holes I thought I made putts but they disappeared into an aeration hole. the mats and balls on the range were there when bobby jones were playing. go there in 3 weeks it will be fine. for me, on my birthday, it was a bummer!
While We Are Young!
It would be wonderful if GolfNow advised that ALL the greens were aerated recently (and not done well)
as well as parts of the fairways. It would also be nice
if there was a starter and/or ranger on the course: in
front of us was (in order): foursome, twosome, single,
walking single, family foursome and behind was a
single, followed by another single.
Enjoyable but...
Arrived to NO one at bag drop, pro shop just so-so, was to be paired with threesome but started alone and late ( no starter). Joined another single on 2nd hole because group ahead was slow. Booked as "pre-aeration" special but was aerated sevral days before and greens still quite sandy, could have gotten same price as senior. Still enjoyed the course.
Tallgrass
Lack of yardage markers make it difficult as a first time play. They need some stakes instead of just tiny little 150 and 100 yard markers. This alone will make it hard for me to justify going out of my way to play here again.
Links style course, but it doesn't really play that way. Easy to get the ball to stick on the greens and what not. Good for a change, but won't become an everyday course for me.
All greens are sanded
Great design but unplayable greens ruined the day
How come they did not tell us upfront all greens were not playable but sanded and spiked
Good test
greens and fairways in great shape. stay below holes as the greens are very fast.
Longest play time ever!
Took FIVE HOUR AND FORTY MINUTE !!! For 3 players. Never seen ranger on field. Poor management.
Snack cart girl drove so fast. Not even wait 10sec. Seen only once over 5 hours.
Overall course is fine, fast and true on green.
This course is a must play
Tallgrass is a very good test of golf. Fairways and greens were in great shape for a mid-summer afternoon round. It's even more exciting when the wind kicks up. This is a very nice layout with everything you need to make it interesting. There is some water, a number of challenging approaches to the lightening fast greens, lots of sand and the beautiful, but menacing tall grass.
Greens
Greens seemed faster than any other coarse I've ever played. Like playing on a sloped gymnasium floor. Other than that great confitions
Great Links Course
My foursome doesn't usually care for links courses. This was the exception to the rule. The course is set up beautifully . The fairways and greens are in great shape. The greens were rolling quick and true. This course is a challenge for every level of golfer. We finished up in less than four hours. This was a monad round and Mondays seem to be a great time to play as far a speed of rounds. We are All retired so apologies to those of you still at the grind. We have played this course when the wind is up and it is really difficult. All in all we had a great time and we will return. Be sure to visit the bar and have your beverage on the deck. The views are great.
Very Nice
I'm a bogey/plus golfer. I've played the Black 12 times and this was close, but easier. Greens were fast and true.
Tall grass was not So Tall, and you can play your ball 99% of the time. 2 hour drive for me from SINY, but I will be back.
Golf Now deals help ease the pain of the drive but this course is
Aces!! Top Shelf! Nice putting green to set your pace, driving range is nice..... A real gem!!
A Replica of Scottish Links
Playing Tallgrass is like playing the links of Scotland - only on Long Island.
Tallgrass offers golfers the unique opportunity of playing a Scottish "links" golf course on Long Island.
It is a bit of ride on the LIE to play it, but you won't be disappointed.
greens define this course
some of the faster greens anywhere, fairly wide open otherwise, 20 mph wind also adds to the challenge, heather and wild grasses are the penalty if you spray, good sand hazards aalso
beautiful course
This course was beautiful. Loved the elevation changes and the greens were fast but fair. Wish they had a ranger on the course as their was a group of two holding everyone up. Also wished their was clearer distance markers to the green. All in all great course that had some challenging holes and had a ton of fun.
very prettywell maintained
starter very nice
front desk person not very friendly
fun course to play
like an easier Black at Bethpage
'tall grass" but not as deep as black course
little of trip but definitely worthy of trip on occasions
