Whitetail is a Hidden Gem
If you are a senior (55+) the deal is $36 with cart Monday - Friday. This course is in excellent shape. Front nine is a little hilly and back nine goes up the mountain. If this course was in Northern Virginia you could easily charge $85 green fee. Had not played it in about 8 years but I will definitely be back with some of my friends.
Always a great experience!!
Challenging but beautiful course to play. Always very well kept. Amazing views everywhere. The Course Pro, Rich Hogan, is an outstanding mananger and does a great job with this course. I have been to and hosted several events here.... the staff is always beyond accommodating. Catered event food is also amazing! This course is a must play.
Back nine almost unplayable
Golf course was in great shape good green speed . Front nine was very playable but the back nine was almost impossible . Drives just slightly off even if it hit the fairway wood tumble down a hill on both the left side and the right side of the fairway , resulting in loss balls in fescue up to your waist. Very unfair and much too penal
Fun course
While this course is challenging it is fun. Front 9 is wide open but no shade in site so bring lots of water. Much of back 9 is on mountain so more trees but also more challenging. Play can be slow.
A little too penalizing!
Great course, but lots of the fescue needs to be cut down, in order for amateurs to have a better chance of leaving with a decent score. Too many places where one bad bounce causes a lost ball, and the green speeds were seriously inconsistent, with hole locations on the side of hills. I had one 3 footer lip out, and roll 15 feet down the green. I just feel it would be lots more fun to be able to hit a slightly wayward drive, and still have a shot at par. Like a nice under a branch shot. I love playing those shots, but at Whitetail, you miss the fairway, and your ball is down a huge ravine, never to be found. Sure, i should drive straighter, but nobody hits em straight everyday. Huge greens and you're friggin incredible if you can leave here without a 3 putt, or 4 for that matter.
Lovely fairways though, and wonderful views, with a 1st class staff. I will try my luck again!!!
Nice Resort Course
We usually play here as a winter course but decided to play it on the way on a buddy trip. Course conditions were very good for late April. It has a nice mix of open links and woodland style holes with plenty of elevation changes. Pro shop staff was also very friendly.
Out of the way, but well worth the drive.
This course is way out of the way in a small town but worth the drive. If you have a long carry off the tee, you can play the back tees but if you do not, play a more forward tee. There was very little run out on the fairways so be prepared for a long second shot all the time. I played the back tees and all the par 4s are over 400 yards except one. It made for a long challenging course but well worth the trip. I would consider playing this course again.
Must Play!!! A Little out of the way!!
Played with 2 local annual pass holders. This course deserves 5 stars because of the following: (1) Fairways and tees were well maintained. Fairways were especially great since they were nice and tight, even though they received 8 inches of rain in past 3 weeks, according to staff. (2) Holes were pretty challenging with some forced carries and fairway bunkers to navigate. (3) But the star of the course were the immaculate greens. 9 on stimp. Very smooth and a little undulating. Not a spike mark on them. All players need to fix ball marks on every green on every course they play. I talked to players that lived about one hour away in Bedford, PA and they told me they did not like it. I think it was too difficult for them. It seems like the type of course that 20% of golfers would not like do to difficulty. That should not stop players from playing at this great track. If you don't play this course shame on you for 10 golf years! LOL P.S. Great thing about this course also is it is a dry township, so you can bring your own beer. Ownership understands that and will tell you to bring it if you want it. Please give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
Mountains and streams
This is one of my favorite courses to play in the area. I've been through most of them at least a few times, but I always love coming back here. The grounds are excellent, and the mountain and forest views are unbeatable! A slight more challenging than average, but definitely worth it!
