Embarrassing
I played this course last year and I was very impressed. I talked it up to my son and a friend, and I told them it was a must play for this year. Well, we played it and I was totally embarrassed. It was by far in the worst shape of any of the various local courses we have played this year - Chestnut Ridge, Saxon, Pheasant Ridge, Rolling Acres, Del-Mar, Pgh Natl, Buffalo, only to name a few. The fairways were bare, the traps had not been touched, and the greens had as many holes as the moon must have. I do not buy the excuse that you can blame it on the dry summer - all of the other courses listed above survived the dry summer very nicely.
We got done at 4:45 PM and went to Brennan's for a burger and a beer. The lady said she was doing us a favor by making a burger, gave us one round of beers and shut us off. She said that she was closing per orders from the pro shop, but there were at least 10 cars in the parking lot. At that point it was 5:30 PM. Talk about adding insult to injury!
With all of the good courses in Western PA, this course will be out of business soon if they do not get their act together. It's a shame because it is a decent tract.
Friendly staff, can't fix the weather
We had a good time, even through our first round of golf with fall tempatures and a 5 or 6 holes of an annoying rain was a challenge.
Some of the fairways were a little bare in spots, but we have been really dry here over the past month.
Overall is is nice course and we enjoyed the play and pace of play.
The staff was over and above nice, We will be back.
The golf now promotion was good too.
A great golf course to play!
Good variety of holes; #'s 9 & 18 are two great Par 5s!
Great golf cars, excellent staff!
Great Course
Spring Church is a really fun course to play. The conditions were great, as was the facility. There are a couple holes where course knowledge is important - fortunately we had a garmin unit with us, which helped out a lot. Will definitely go back to play again.
Best course around.
Challenging course, excellent fairways and greens. Best course around by far. Puts other courses in this price range to shame.
One of my favorite courses, but greens were lacking this time.
We played Spring Church yesterday, the course is usually in great shape but the greens were pretty worn. The greens did not putt very true given all of the marks and areas where the green is damaged.
The rest of the course is in great shape, the layout features many challenging holes with undulating greens.
I'll be back in the Fall, hopefully the greens will come back.
Really a fun course, reminds me of Oakmont a little.
Great course, challenging, and tough fast greens. I've played here at least 10 times and always enjoy it.
Great course, friendly staff
Great course, especially w/ GolfNow deals. Great scoring course.
One of the nicest courses in the Pittsburgh area
To my surprise this was an excellent course to play. Booked on GolfNow.com and played a round for less than $20 for 18 holes and a cart with their HotDeal. This course was definitely worth the price paid and then some. The club house and practice facilities were very nice, well kept, and clean. The course was in great shape from the tee boxes, to the fairways, and to the greens. Greens were slightly fast and smooth which impressed me most being that it is still early spring. The course was a little bit challenging which made for a fun game. I will definitely be playing here again soon and would highly recommend to anybody looking to play here.
Excellent Value
Course was in great condition for the time of year. The staff is very friendly and extremely accommodating.
Very pleasing to the eye.
This course is always a pleasure to play, no matter the time of year. Usually in pretty nice condition. Greens roll nice.Could be better without the gnats. Don't let them stop you though, just bring your spray.
play here every year
i drive 11/2 hrs. to play here twice a year and it never disappoints. Great layout. Some bugs, but well worth the trip.
One of the BEST layouts in Western, PA
This course should be added to any Pittsburgher or visitor to Western, PA's "Must Play" list. The greens are as close to perfect as you'll find. It has a nice mix of tight opening holes combined with wide open links holes, with a spectacular finishing 18th hole. From tee to green this is simply one of the best courses you can play for the money.
spring church
wife and I enjoyed the course. some tricky holed but not a lot of trouble. pace of play was good. we will play it again next year.
Horrible Pace of Play
Took almost 3 hours to play 9 holes. Course was overbooked and management didn't bother having a ranger move the pace of play. Many times there were 2-3 foursomes on a tee. Everyone was complaining. It will be a long time before my wife and I play here again and we play 1-2 times per week. Seemed management was more concerned in cashing in on the play than making the experience enjoyable. They made a lot of folks disgusted yesterday.
Best shape in a while, even with bugs!
Tees and fairways were in good shape, but the greens were the best I have seen them in playing there since it has opened! They were firm, but held a well-struck shot and were smooth and fast. They indicated that their greens would not be punched this fall since the greens did not heal from last fall. Well worth the hot deal price of $16.00 plus $3.70 service charge from Golf Now. Bugs are still a problem. They are black and annoying! Don't let that stop you from playing here.
great conditions,need a ranger
The course conditions were great. The pCe of play was good until, playing as a single, I caught up to a foursome on #8 who never let me play through until #16. A ranger could have told them to let me through much earlier and improved the overall pace of play.
greens
The greens were very consistent and I thought this course was very well kept. However, there were quite a bit of ball marks and burns on the greens. Fixing your ball marks on the green needs to be a point of emphasis by staff and those who frequent this course.
great course middle of nowhere
Great course in the middle of nowhere...i was the first person on the course by myself so obviously pace of place was not an issue. Course plays links style (fescue, little drier fairways and greens producing more roll) with a few holes being tree lined and hilly like a typical western PA course. Real good condition would have liked greens to be quicker but everything was healthy. Somewhat Challenging course from back tees ill be back again real soon
