Poor condition
I think the summer heat did a job on the once beautiful fairways, fairways were burnt out and the main lake was only half full. I had played the course before, a few years ago, and was very disappointed in the condition. The greens and bunkers were in good shape. Hopefully they'll get their fairways back because I really like the course.
Great condition
Course is in great shape. Played 18 in three hours so pace of play is fantastic.
Highly recommended.
Not that bad...
Everyone wanted to talk about the fairways and scorched greens. I totally understand that but the experience was great. Some things are out of managements care. The layout was great, I can tell it used to be an excellent course. Only a couple of holes to complain about. I will return.
Shame
The fairways were completely burned out. Some had NO grass at all. Everything else about the gold course was fine. Greens, tees, rough all plush. Tees even showed signs of the sprinklers having been tuned on but the fairways were gone. I was hitting 300 yard drives because there was no grass and the ball rolled 40 yards. What a shame because it is a nice layout.
Great course!
The course was very nice and in good shape. It was a rewarding round of play. The staff members are very friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to another round!
water the fairways!!!!
It's a shame how far this place has fallen. Great layout, great staff, pretty good greens. The fairways are GONE. Just dirt and patches of grass. They need to spend some money and water the fairways. You get an extra 15 to 20 yards of bounce and roll on your drive because they are like concrete. Please, WATER THE FAIRWAYS!! Don't destroy a formerly good course.
JB
I have played this course several times in the past. It was a nice course with a good layout.
Today, this was the worst course I have ever played. Fairways gone, burnt out, brown, patchy grass and muddy. I hate to give a bad review but it was that bad.
Staff was nice, there was a problem with our golfnow reservation but they honored it (have your reservation info with you, I did).
Greens were ok, ran nice but lots of old ball marks.
I will probably never go there again unless I see a later review saying they fixed the course.
First timer
I picked this course based on Golfnow reviews and they were spot on. This is not a long course but its really a great place to play. The greens were a little slow due to rain but they were also receptive - I hit a hybrid 210 yards into number 9 green and the ball ended up on the fringe.
If you live in the area this should be a course you play often. Nice elevation changes, a few blind tee shots. I thought this was a great course.
Buggy
The Course was hard has a rock, and big parts of the fairway burned out. I never seen it like that before.
Golfed with two men who never golfed there before, and they all they kept saying was" man there is a lot of nats". One good thing were the greens. They held balls and were very fast, but true.
I always try to play this course every year, I like it and it is a very good lay-out.
But I won't go back until the fairways and the nats are fixed.
course maintenance/apperance
The fairways and greens at this course are in need of some TLC. Many burned out spots in the fairways and the greens. Some of the greens had some sort of disease. Grass was dying in the fairways and on the greens. Many ball marks and divots.
The term "links" suggests a more open layout with few trees. The "Links" at Spring Church does not match the defenition.
Looks a little rough
The layout of the course is great, but it seemed like they didn't get rain in months. Everything was dry, dead, and rock hard.
The links, and more
The name let's you know that there's not much flat ground. Plays long with a good amount of doglegs both left and right
Fairways and greens are well maintained. The greens were fast due to being dry, but we haven't had much rain lately.
Good course for the money
Good Day
Staff and pace of play were excellent. Fairways were a bit spotty in places and greens were a bit beat up. No sand on carts or tee boxes so you cannot make repairs. Many, many pitch marks on greens that were not fixed. Other than that, the course design is interesting; just a bit shaggy.
getting shaggy
I love the course, the staff & the amenities. They need to spend a little bit more money on the turf. The grass is getting weedy, especially around the tee boxes. Some of the fairways looked burnt up, way too early for this time of year. The dry season in Pittsburgh isnt until late July.
Great day at the links
Great layout in a off the road golf course. Course and greens are in good shape. The greens were slow but put table if you can get a rhythm. Make sure you take a look at #9 before playing as it is a blind shot. FYI our gps did not find the exact position of the course. Look for the sign on the last turn. I did not play to well yesterday or I might have given a better rating. Only complaint was hitting off concrete like mats at the driving range.
Hidden gem
I love everything about the course and it's layout and pace of play has never been an issue! I would however say the bartender was quite rude and lacking manners nevertheless really great course
Nice course
Got a golf now deal for $44 a man. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The bar is very clean and well kept hardwood floors. The bar staff is too the point and has a great sense of humor. The course is in beautiful country and well kept. Greens are consistent throughout. I'm terrible at golf so I dont know if id pay full price lol. But I had a great experience there and would recommend it to anyone.
Hidden gem
Excellent mixture of holes, great greens I have played this course many times and I always look forward to playing it again
Rain
The course was excellent, staff was friendly, but the weather unfortunately was bad and made it difficult to appreciate the course entirely.
Deteriorating fairways
Played for 3rd time this year. First two times, conditions were very good, but this time the greens were a little above average due to spotty disease, but very puttable. The fairways however were a different issue. they were extremely hard with areas that did not have grass. Being firm is great if you are a player that can hit fairway shots from firm fairways, but most amateur golfers cannot. I appreciate the golf course because it can be in excellent condition, but this time it was not. Will probably come back when conditions are better.
