Turning Stone’s marquee eighteen is a Tom Fazio-designed championship course with a country club aura. Fazio pushed prodigious amounts of earth around, planted 1,000 young trees, carved out numerous water hazards, and added ornamental details. The inspiration for Atunyote, which hosted a PGA Tour event from 2006 to 2010 (winners included Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson), was Augusta National. The two-mile club driveway helps build anticipation and set the tone for Atunyote’s immaculate grounds and picturesque routing that overlooks the Mohawk Valley. The practice facilities and clubhouse are as elegant as the golf course.

Probably the closest thing to golfing in heaven

What else can I say? Everything from the front gate, to the 18th hole is picturesque and beautiful. Course conditions were immaculate and staff was as friendly as can be. This 7700 yard track can be set up to play as tough as anything out there but the fairways are moderately wide for all golfers to enjoy. The beautiful club house, practice facility, and course passes many private country clubs in every way. Due to the hefty price tag, this track gets very little play. With the beautiful scenery on every hole, it almost feels surreal because you feel like you have the place to yourself. Even though we were practically the only ones on the course, our round took over 5 1/2 hours due to taking pictures and taking in the beauty of the course. With the top notch facility available to anyone playing, the staff makes you feel like you are a member at a country club. Definitely a bucket list course for any golfer.

Did not live up to expectations

Let me start by saying that Turning Stone is a first rate golf facility. My experience on their other 2 courses were wonderful. Atunyote however was a different story. The Fazio layout is visually spectacular, and while there is some trouble scattered around the course, it is roomy enough to allow a few wayward shots. The issue was the conditioning. I live in upstate NY about 80 miles from Turning Stone. The courses throughout the region are virtually all firm and fast due to a summer of scant rainfall. Atunyote was so wet that it was nearly unplayable. In addition to the par 3's, 6 additional holes were closed to cart traffic because they were so wet. Balls in the fairway were plugging, and staying in awkward lies rather than rolling into a flatter spot. The bunkers were like playing from wet cement. On almost every hole, you were likely to notice water pooling around your feet as you stood over your ball. On a course where the par 4's average 390 from the whites, this made the conditions rather challenging for an aging group of mid handicappers.
If the conditions could be solely attributed to the weather, I would not feel the need to vent about this.
In this instance however, if rain was a contributing factor it was only because the course had been overwatered to begin with.

High Expecations

Perhaps I had overhyped to my playing partners about Atunyote golf course and the incredible venue that it is. But even the best course is only as good as the staff that is employed there, and unfortunately, we encountered apathetic personnel from the bag drop area, the restaurant, and an absolutely nonexistent beverage cart attendant on a sweltering 95 day! I even called the Pro Shop on the 14th tee box to inquire about the beverage cart as we were completely out of any fluids and one member of our golf group was struggling in the heat. I was told to be patient and the beverage cart would be there soon which was totally false. We never, ever saw the beverage cart until we were coming up the 18th fairway and saw it parked on the 1st tee box. Thanks for nothing!
I was not disappointed in the condition, quality or layout of Atunyote golf course but for the significant amount of
money you pay to play here you rightfully expect a higher level of service and that unfortunately was not the case here.

Unbelievable; Definitely a Buddies Bucket Trip

Best conditions for a resort course I have ever played. Atunyote is the easiest of the three (Shenandoah & Kaluhyat). Kaluhyat is a bear but beautiful but always windy. All three courses are pristine - just perfect! I really want to return but have other bucket list courses to play. If you haven't played Turning Stone put it on your bucket list. You won't be disappointed!

Always Excellent

After the Covid break I got back to play Atunyote. Turning Stone is without a doubt still the premier golf destination I visit, and Atunyote is a national gem.. The staff and course always, and continues, to set the standard for a first class golf destination. The course was beyond immaculate and the experience is second to none. The course is high-end yet is a bargain to those in golf havens such as Phoenix, Las Vegas and Florida. The personnel, clubhouses, food, pro-shop, all out-shine any that I have visited before.

For those looking to do a golf trip Turning Stone gets my "Best in Show" with Atunoyte, Kaluhyat and Shenendoah,

Wow

The experience starts when you get to an amazing gate that opens up and the drive up to the club house. Conditions were top notch and the routing was challenging yet playable. Was there for a bachelor party and the staff really made us feel welcomed. It’s a hefty price tag but for firm and fast greens and powder sand bunkers, you can’t be mad. Also the coolest bev cart I’ve ever seen

A must play for the golf enthusiast

Decided to try turning stone for our annual buddies golf trip this year since we are from NY and travel is limited outside of the state. It is safe to say we will be returning to Turning Stone every year going forward. We played all three courses which were all excellent, but Atunyote stood out far from the pack. This course is everything you want in a golf course, perfectly manicured, aesthetically beautiful, fun layout, and good pace of play. We felt like we had the course to ourselves even though there were other groups out there. Our group has people with a wide variety of skill levels (single digit handicap - 20+) and this course pleased everyone. Yes it is not cheap, but if you truly appreciate golf it will be worth every penny. I can't wait to come back.

Just Play Here Once, It's Worth The Money

Yes, its expensive for a course in upstate NY, but where else can you play where the PGA has played? Its worth it! Conditions were excellent, the course is fun to play, not super hard like you might think. It will be a one time a year thing for me from now on.

Atunyote far exceeds 5 stars

Returning to Turning Stone does not disappoint. Golf at Turning Stone is not a round of golf but a golf experience. Our groups first round was at the Tom Fazio masterpiece, Atunyote. We played on September 16 2019, the weather was an extraordinary late summer day hovering around 70 degrees. The company was old friends and the course was beyond exceptional. These culmination of events, combined with the complete dedication of Turning Stone Golf to an amazing experience, made this one of the greatest, if not the greatest golf day of my 40 years of golf.

Our foursome was split among three tees, Blue (6998 Yards 74.4/140), White (6561 Yards 71.7/134) and Gold (6069 Yards 69.5/127). The fairways were pristine and the greens rolled pure. Green speed was 10.5 and required a keen eye to read the subtle breaks. The breathtaking natural beauty of this course is recognized as it sits in a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

In 2019 Atunyote was once again on the Golf Digest top 100 courses the public can play. The Golf Digest award is just one of over twenty-five awards Atunyote has received since 2012. I have played many courses on Golf Digests list over the years. I have yet to find anything that exceeds Turning Stone dedication to the customers. From the moment you pass through the gate at Atunyote to the moment you leave the Fazio gem you are surrounded by excellence.

Make sure you arrive early the practice area is immaculate. The short game area is the best I have enjoyed since the last time I played Turning Stone. After the round take advantage of the clubhouse dining room and enjoy the view off the porch with a great meal, or your favorite drink. The only issue is Golf Adviser limits reviews to 5 stars, Turning Stone Atunyote clearly surpasses that scale.

Eye candy of a course

Considered the jewel of the 3 courses at Turning Stone, this course delivers a great golf experience. Course is beautiful and in pristine shape. Playable and fun. Pro shop staff are friendly and helpful. Finish your round and take in the spectacular view on 19th hole on balcony of club house!

Visually stunning from start to finish

From the time you see the clubhouse you have a thought that this may be a special place. Turning Stone uses this course for tournaments and VIP’s so it has less play. Staff and food was good but food was a little slow. I included a pic of the beverage cart and you will understand why. This course and property is visually appealing. Flowers everywhere, a couple of waterfalls, and green grass everywhere. Very fair course, rough was pretty penalizing, bunkers could use some sand. No matter your handicap you would enjoy this course.

Atunyote

Beautiful course in great condition. Very enjoyable to play with relatively open fairways. Bunker placement and undulating greens create a fun challenge. Looking forward to playing here again.
