Mediocre

This used to be an excellent course when it was a private club , the condition is poor , the greens and tees were good but the rest of the course was disappointing , rough had a lot of holes in it and there were weeds throughout the layout. The practice area is awesome a huge tee and two short game areas , its a shame that they can't keep the course up because this is a well designed golf course.

Top notch Pittsburgh area public course

Top notch public course. A must play when in the Pittsburgh area. Panaramic views on virtually every hole. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were all in great shape. Our round started off wet but after the fifth hole the sun was out and the views came with it! Definitely a great public course

Hidden gem

Totteridge is a great course in the middle of a higher-end development. Even from the shorter tees, it looks easy but plays tricky. The open links layout provides character to a lot of holes, but some holes still include trees and water to add variety. The course was in great shape this summer, and I am looking forward to returning again.

Good game

Went out during the week and played the golf course. Interesting views, nice layout and mixture of holes. I wouldn’t consider it spectacular but it’s a really good golf course at a reasonable price!

The best, yet!

I love this course! Challenging layout; fast greens; sweeping vistas. And they FINALLY have lots of sand in the traps and they were raked!! I just wish they hadn’t changed their practice range practices!!

Not worth the hassle

Played with our league; mostly senior golfers. League director called ahead and was told that fall rates would be in effect. When we arrived, we were told that the fall rates didn't kick in until the afternoon (despite being given a 10:00 tee time). No flexibility by the owner - either pay up or leave. We had no good options so we decided to stay.

Despite the great reviews, the course was vanillla - long wide fairways, a few challenging holes, and NO TREES on a very hot day. We have played 17+ courses this season and as far as challenge, Totteridge wouldn't even make the top ten. As far as a respectful staff, it was rock bottom.

If you want to pay a boatload of money to play a mediocre course that isn't easy to get to for most in the Pgh area, and feel like you don't deserve to be there unless you look like you could live in one of the $.5 million homes ringing the course, then this is is the course you've been dying to play. Otherwise, you might want to try Lenape, Stoughton Acres, Lake Arthur, or any one of the dozen other courses that we played this year for a much better experience.

As the league director said when we were leaving, "Guys, don't leave anything of value behind, because we are never coming back."

Good all around course

This was on a list of top public courses in Pa so I came out here to play it and some others. Well worth it.

Maintained very well. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, everything was decent. Sure a few golf cart entry areas were roughed up but not as badly as it could have been. I can’t understand past reviewers complaints but this day it was very good. The crews were out my entire round also watering and such.

I liked the views a a lot. The layout varied and most greens were not punitive. Wife fairways but fescue if you chicken winged a swing. I donated some
Balls myself.

The greens ran medium and the practice green matched the course.

The rates were outstanding for what I got. Absolutely no complaints from me.

Great value for the money - beautiful course

We loved playing this course with the great scenery and solid course conditions. The views were amazing and memorable.

The course was not easy and provided some challenge, which is good. The condition of the course was excellent as well.

I was hoping for a bit more from the pro shop and the dining area but we made due. They had showers which was awesome but no towels. They also had no rental clubs for those that travel so make arrangements.

Overall, we really enjoyed the course.

The beach it’s not!

Except for their sand traps, this course is excellent. The fairways and greens are in great shape, though the greens were not as fast as usual. (They were still much faster than the those of the average course. ). And, of course the layout allows for some great vistas. However, the sand traps remain a work in progress. Most have nowhere near enough sand and drainage is a problem in many.

Don’t believe the hype!!!

Totteridge use to be one of my favorite courses in Western, PA and it wasn’t even up for debate. The scenery and some of the views you get when you play here are unbelievable but at this point, that’s all the course really has going for them. For an avid golfer, paying $70 on a weekend or $55 on a weekday should get you some pretty awesome playing conditions. Not here.... The last couple years, the course itself has gone down hill in my opinion. The greens aren’t as fast and firm as they use to be. Totteridge was known for their fast and firm greens which was always a challenge playing here. If you a hit a ball in the bunker, forget about it. Every single bunker is unplayable and that’s not an exaggeration. Fairways are not cut the way they should be for a “top Western, PA.” I would compare to the fairways to hittting off the first cut of rough, pretty hairy. I definitely do not recommend going to play this course on a weekend or before 12pm on a week day becusss it’s just not worth the money anymore, unfortunately. I don’t typically write reviews on golf courses and their conditions but it’s really been bothering me the last couple days how much they charge for such terrible conditions.

Getting better with age

When I first played it a few years ago, it was not in the best of shape. Since the original owner took it back over it has dramatically improved. It is tough but in a lot of cases forgive. Definitely a risk reward course.

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed the course. The terrain is quite hilly and the designer did a nice job of incorporating the hills into the layout. There is very little water and is generally pretty forgiving if you're accuracy is a little off. Sand traps weren't great... extremely firm.

Pretty nice place to play

Good place to play golf. Generous fairways, smooth, true-rolling greens. Facilities are spartan, but they have a very nice range.

Other-Worldly Experience

This course is mostly a treeless, windswept moonscape. On many holes, there are no trees or other visual reference points, and distances can be illusory. I happen to like such courses, so I consider that a plus. The front 9 is virtually all open; the back is a little more hilly and has more visual definition, so there's a good variety there. Conditions were excellent. The fronts of most greens are cut perpendicular to the fairway in a straight line, inviting a bump and run, but care must be taken to avoid running right off the quick surfaces. I particularly liked #17, a shortish par-4 with an elevated tee and angled fairway. Pick your shot and strategy on this one. In all, one of my favorite recent courses.

Hidden Gem

I found the course through Top Ten Public Course rankings, and played it due to it's proximity to I-76.

Beautiful layout, great vistas, and lots of elevation changes.

It's been mentioned this was a private club before turning public. I don't see how the clubhouse was a private clubhouse.

Practice facility was well maintained and amply supplied. Piece of advice: warm up from the far end of the practice range, where trees on the left side won't cut into the range.

The course itself is challenging but fair. Having no local knowledge, the course really was a "what you see is what you get" except for maybe blind 3 tee shots -- 3, 6, and 12 - which were all holes with downhill slopes and open.

Despite playing on a Tuesday, the course was busy and parking lot was full. We teed off shortly after 2:00 and was done by 6:15. One complaint was that a single player jumped in front of us making the turn on 10, while avoiding what seemed to be a league teeing off on 1 at the same time. This was after we were already waiting on the threesome ahead of us on the front 9. While the single did play through the threesome, we called the pro-shop to get a Marshall out. Marshall told us it was the owner of the course and he can do whatever he wants, and that we shouldn't press him. Talk about customer appreciation.

All in all, fun course, very playable, very fair. Would play this course again.

Great Course

I only get to play this course once a year. I use GolfNow frequently to book tee times and this course is only listed in the spring. I look forward to playing this course every year. The course layout is beautiful. The greens are true and fast with carpet lined fairways. Very thick rough so you must keep it in the fairway. The clubhouse is small, hot dogs and hamburgers are the menu. I would play this course a lot if they would offer up some decent fares online. A must play if you are visiting the area.

Totter

Drove 4 hours to see the US open at oakmont and decided to play some courses on our way back...this course exceeded expectations, very fairly priced...the greens were very fast and true, the layout was interesting and the course was challenging especially off the tee (miss the fairway and you'll have some goofy lies)...i very very very much recommend this course, and I would drive 4 hours to play again
