Birdsfoot Golf Club
About
Birdsfoot Golf Club gets its name from the birdsfoot trefoil that covers the course, budding with small yellow flowers. Mature trees also blanket the course, making it an especially scenic round in the fall. The front nine has a links-style layout with more open holes while the back nine has a parkland landscape with trees framing most of the holes. What both nines have in common is the rolling terrain that provides some tricky uneven lies throughout. It is a golf course that requires a good deal of accuracy but it is not overly punishing if you are slightly errant. There are some good eagle opportunities on the course's par 4s and par 5s, though it is also home to four of the toughest par 3s in the Pittsburgh area.

Slow play
Great lay out an condition of course was great. But the slow play was horrible will not go back. Waited 10 + min at every tee box on back nine.
great time
We had à great time at birdsfoot. The course is very nice, the pace of play was Fantastic. Didn't wait a second all day. The food and beverages; all excellent. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Nice Course, Mean Starter!
Always one of my favorite layouts. Love the links style course, fairways and greens were in fantastic shape! Pro Shop Staff inside was very friendly, but the starter is not good for business. When we were teeing off, he yelled at our group for hitting when the group was already on the green. He told us "You don't hit until I tell you to hit" and was rather mean when he greeted us. But the rest of the staff was friendly and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our round. My other complaint was pace of play. It would have been fine, and was for the 1st 12 holes, until a modified shotgun was started on a Sunday Morning for the WPIAL Wrestling Officials which caused massive backups over the last 6 holes. We played the 1st 12 holes in 2 1/2 hours and it took us over 2 1/2 hours to play the final 6 holes. They should come up with a better way to get this group on the course.
You Need To Tee It Up Here
Birdsfoot remains one of the best daily fee courses in the Pittsburgh area. Although it is a bit of a drive from downtown and a real hike from Pittsburgh International Airport, the course rewards you for the drive with a challenging Western PA layout that will challenge your shot making skills and dirty every one of the clubs in your bag.
The greens are in good shape for this time of year considering the cold wet spring and reward an honest putt. The fairways are solid and the rough is starting to shape up.
Perhaps the only drawback to the course is the contractors grade sand used in the traps around the course. Not only is it not visually appealing, but the day after a rainstorm such as this past Thursday (5/29) the traps are become either a mud puddle or the consistency of the parking lot.
The clubhouse is a converted farm house and while not the largest holds an interesting pub with all sorts of microbrews on tap and reasonably priced food.
Before the snows return and you have to park the sticks again you need to tee it up here.
golf now customer
Though I enjoyed this round I will never book through golf now again
Pace of play big issue at Birdsfoot
This course is a great course, however the pace of play is utterly at a stand still. I had to wait on ever tee box and fairway on every hole over 10 minutes a shot. it took us over 5 1/2 hours to play. There were a few management issues that were glaringly evident on the course.
1.For the price, they should have GPS on carts.
2. The slow play is terrible. People won't let you play through (welcome to public golf courses#
3. The starter told us to stay 10 yards from the greens, we did, and the ranger made an effort to tell us #on the first hole# to keep it on the path. Confusion!!
4. Our Tee Time was double booked with another group... Can you say "we don't care about the pace of play or the over-booking, we want your money..."
5. No water jugs on course - can you say "law suit..?" Oh, but we offer it to you, but you have to buy it... Money grab.
6. To put the nail in the coffin, when you come up to 17 #par 3# they have am 18 year old girl that offers to double your pro shop credit if you hit the green. Really? I understand why Birdsfoot does this, however I was embarrassed for the girl, the course and the management. I true money grab.
7# I was appalled at the burnt conditions of the tees and some fairways. The ranger and starters needs to learn their jobs. You do not allow double-digit handicappers on the pro tees, #I watched a 2 guys in front of me, from the pro tees, score 9's on three holes...Pro tee players don't do that# #There is a calculation as to how long of a course you should play. It's calculated by how far you hit a 5 iron... ask a Pro# On a really busy "double-booked" day, remove the long tees. It makes for a more enjoyable round of golf fro everyone. The pace of play was terrible. Embarrassing, the people that own the course are nice and they have a good course, but the golf product is ruined by the pace of play and the begging for money on the 17th tee, not a class move when you are fighting a 5 1/2 hour round with upset golfers.
Regretfully, I won't be back... Not worth the 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Washington, PA to not get a good quality course at a fair price where you don't have to wait on everyshot... Get it together Birdsfoot..!
Really enjoyable course that i will definitely return to
Very Wide open and clean course some patches of high grass beyond the rough but overall you have space. Big putting greens and a wide variety of hole difficulty.
maintained course
This course was pretty hard to get out of the Bunkers around of the green. Good to practice the Bunker shot and well maintained around over the all courses.
We enjoyed enough except very strong wind that time.
Best Value in Pittsburgh Area
By far, this is the nicest course in this area for the money. I usually play in the afternoon and can find a tee time for less than $30. This course is perfectly challenging, with just the right amount of trouble, and plenty of variety depending on which tees you play. I can play the whites and be a sand wedge in on every par four or play the tips and have an extremely challenging round. You can't match the seclusion and beauty of this course. The people there are friendly, and the greens are always fast by the afternoon. The one downside is the past couple of times I've played there the sand has been pretty wet, but that was mostly because of mother nature.
If Birdsfoot is on HotDeals, BOOK IT!
Beautiful course! Drove from oakland (pitt students), only took about 30 minutes, arrived in plenty of time for our 750 tee time. First 3 holes were VERY challenging because of a dense fog and unfamiliarity with the course. This course has a beautiful layout with interesting holes, some incredible views and well maintained fairways. Lots of sand for a public course, and many of the bunkers were saturated but all were raked as well as possible.
The only problem I had with this course was the rate of play, which i attribute to:
Overbooking
Hidden balls in long rough (uncut because of wet weather)
LONG holes
The starter and marshal seemed aware of the tendency for long rounds and did there best to speed things up- all of the staff were very friendly. However, if you plan on playing after 8am, dont book unless you're willing to devote most of the day to your round.
NEED RANGERS TO PUSH SLOW GROUPS
TOO SLOW. RANGER RIDES AROUND DOES NOTHING, 5 HOURS PLUS IS TOO LONG FOR A ROUND OF GOLF TEEING OFF EARLY
Course not up to par with previous years
Let me start off by saying I belonged to Birdsfoot in 2008 and played an average of 45 holes a week. The course in 2008 was pristine with the exception being the bunkers. It is now in horrendous shape. The tees, fairways, and greens are all tore up. The rough had 2.5 inches of dandelions that made finding/hitting ball nearly impossible. The sand was the worst i've seen (it is always very bad there, but this was on another level). Number 11, the infamous par 3 surrounded by sand had NO RAKES and it certainly showed. My ball was in the bunker off the tee and landed in someones footprint along with rocky mud. The pace of play has gotten to be out of hand as well. It took our group over 5 hours for 18 and the rangers do nothing but watch the course backup. I attribute the slow play in my recent visit to the horrible playing conditions that made spotting your ball nearly impossible through the weeded and dandelion infused rough. This course IMHO had the potential to compete with Totteridge/Quiksilver when i first saw it, it is now WAY OVERPRICED and in HORRIBLE playing conditions. I will not be back.
Bad staff, nice course
Course is in great shape. Staff was terrible in the snack shop & on the course.
4.5 hour round or more any day
Was a member here the last two years. This is a great and very challenging track, especially from backs. It usually takes awhile to shape up every year, but it is definitely worth the trip mid-summer. BEWARE of the slow play. This place always overbooks and the staff while friendly is bad at moving people along. Doesn't matter what day of the week you go, expect at least a 4.5 hour round.
Nice course but not ready for the season
The course was in alright shape but they told me they had not cut the greens since Thursday and we played on Sunday so they were pretty slow.
Pace of play
I teed off at 7:42 am and finished in 4 hrs. That's the Longest a round of golf should take to play. Good job to the staff for keeping it moving.
Excellent Conditions
This course is in great shape for the time of year. Fairways well maintained, greens run true, tee boxes are great. Links style so you can find your ball easily should you miss hit. A lot of uphill and downhill shots so calculations are crucial. I've played here several times and everyone I've ever known to play here loves it.
Slow
The staff was great, the course was great, and the pace of play was poor. The front 9 we were 3 minutes behind as a foursome. The twosome in front of us was 3 minutes behind also. I told the starter what the twosome was doing waiting for the group to reach every green before they hit (1 golfer back tees and the other forward tees). Starter told me that he could not say anything to them because were regulars on the course. The back 9 was 3 hours long.
Interesting layout
Everything about the course is much better than average except the bunkers and pace of play. We were not aware of a junior tournament going on when we made the tee times and we endured a 5.5 hr round Forced to wait on every shot and tee, Bunkers needed work which is probably understandable based on the time of year
