Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club - Lost Gold Course
About
The Lost Gold Course at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club stays true to the club's name with a layout that snakes across the desert landscape of the Superstition Mountains. It is one of two golf courses at the club designed by Jack Nicklaus and his sons, the other being the harmoniously named Prospector Course. Both golf courses have the signature risk-and-reward design that is a Nicklaus trademark. The Lost Gold Course has strategic bunker placements and smaller greens of the two courses, giving it a higher shot value. The links-style design features generous fairways and water hazards that come into play on a few holes.

Just the best course in the East Valley. Too bad tehy will be kicking the public out to go back to private when us locals are teh ones who support the course in the summer and slower months !! Otherwise my favoirte course.
Great setting and course conditions
This is certainly one of Arizona's finest courses. I am glad I played it before it goes private next January. I was in awe of the surroundings, both natural and constructed. The club has great aesthetics in every detail, from the clubhouse to the range to course itself. The staff are professional and take good care of both golfers and the golf course. The course itself is beautiful, with lots of bunkers and greens that roll true. There is not excessive undulation on the greens or the fairways, nor are there any water hazards, except for hole 18. It is almost a links style layout but the thick rough creates a fair incentive to keep it straight. Without the forced carries that are so typical of most upscale desert courses, Superstition Mountain seems almost friendly. Good scores do not come easy, but there is also not a lot of creative elements in the course design. Most shots seemed quite obvious and did not require many strategic decisions. Nonetheless, if you have the chance to play, Superstition Mountain is well worth the drive and makes for a memorable golf outing.
Going private again in January??? WAAAAAAAAA......!!!!!!!
Superstition Mt is in my opinion, one of the top 10 courses in AZ, public or private. Former home to the Senior and LPGA tour, this course just rocks. it is a VERY demanding layout with lightning fast greens that have a lot less break than you read. Jack put together a beauty with this one. If you are a High handicapper, do yourself a favor and move up a set of tees. I guarantee it will push you pretty hard even from there! I am trying to get out to these 2 maasterpiece courses every week if I can, because on January 1st....it's over...They will once again go private. All of us who can't afford the price of membership will just have to gaze through the fence and drool at what once was....!!!!
Fantastic Course
What a treat! Wide fairways, smooth and receptive greens, excellent bunker conditions (wanted to avoid them, but couldn't), and challenging shot values. Excellent conditioning made playing a real pleasure. The fact it allows public play during the summer is awesome - the pace of play was absolutely perfect - we were almost the only ones on the course!
This ranks as absoultely one of the finest courses I've ever played!
I played the 18 hole Prospector course. Great Experience!
I played the 18 hole Prospector course. It was a joy to play and in wonderful condition. Both the inside and outside staff were super friendly and helpful. Found out that the course will be going private on Jan 1st, so don't wait to play there.
Overall Great Experience
This was my first time playing this course, and I was truly impressed. I had a tee time at 10:10 and upon arrival i was greeted by friendly car valet and bag drop guys that started the great day. They grabbed my bags and directed me in the correct direction from the start. The free range balls are always a great amenity and the course was in absolute amazing condition. The had coolers filled bottled water was on every 3-5 holes as well. The staff was very friendly and even helped change a flat tire that occurred while i was out playing.
supersition golf club is awesome in Arizona...
I went many time supersition golf club but they have a good pairway and greens all the time.... and it was amazing view.....
also golf course is so challenging even though, they have big pairway it was so long For example, i went to lost golf course many time but if i get a back tee it is 7350 yard something,,,,....
Great course conditions during the hot AZ summer.
Our first impressions when driving up to the course was that the grounds were very well maintained and seemed to be kept up very well. The club house was very nice and the staff seemed to be friendly and accommodating (Though I was asked to tuck in my shirt, which seemed quite unusual because I have played top courses all around and have never been asked to do that before). They have a very nice range and practice area and everything needed to be able to have a solid experience of golf seemed to be available. We played the Lost Gold course and the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in excellent condition. Most of the fairways were very generous in width so spraying the ball into the desert is really not an issue compared to some AZ courses. The difficulty of this course was this course required a lot of forced carries and had desert washes and bunkers protecting most of the greens. So, if you are trying to reach the greens from long distances (par 5 in 2) that could rack up your score a bit. When we played the pins seemed to be tucked in some very difficult locations to get the ball close to the pin on approaches. The greens were pretty quick. Not the quickest I've played on but very solid speed. We saw the beverage cart lady twice during our round and they do provide free bottled water throughout the course at a few locations. All in all this course was a very solid course. I still have some courses that I prefer over this course but it is definitely one of the top courses in AZ. This course will be private starting in 2014. So, if you want to give it a try you better get out there before then.
One of the Best
Truly one of the best courses in the Phoenix area. Superb condition for this time of the year. Greens are a challenge, but fast and fair. Don't miss the opportunity to play this golf course while it still exists. This is well worth it at twice the price. Plan to stay and eat and enjoy the ambiance of a beautiful clubhouse.

Tough But Fair
the course was in excellent condition, the greens were a bit thin (summer in Arizona) but true. Each hole presents a unique dynamic and thought given. Looking forward to also playing the Prospector Course.
A course everyone should play at least once!
We played during the week, during the summer and had the course to ourselves. Very well maintained and a course for all levels of play with a tee box for each level of golfer. Having bottled water and every few holes was fantastic. Lots of wildlife seen on the course. Staff are very helpful and friendly. A fun day of golf. Play it before it becomes private.
New favorite course in Phoenix area
This golf course has it all....layout, views, challenge, beautiful clubhouse and facilities, friendly staff. Too bad this is scheduled to become a fully private facility in Jan., 2014 because it is the best golf course I've played in Phoenix area.
Superstition Mountain Golf Course
One of the best in Arizona. It is not only scenic but always in outstanding condition.
My new favorite course!
Can"t wait to get back to Superstition Mountain to play again. Lost Gold course was in awesome shape from tee to green. Great value at 45 dollars. Tee time of 1:10 proved to be so relaxing. No one in front or behind: ever! We couldn't believe the course wasn't packed at 45 dollars and perfect conditions. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We'll be back often and soon!!! Thanks for a wonderful golf experience.
Best in the east valley.
This facility has hosted SPGA and LPGA events. It will close to the public December 31, 2013. If you are smart, you will jump on any opportunity to play here while you can. Don't forget to buy a yardage book. You will need it. Simply the best golf course in the area.
A cut above the rest
Playing the Superstition Mountain course is a not only playing a great course, it is golf experience. The moment you walk into the exquisite clubhouse, meet the friendly staff, and view the 18th hole you know you are in for a great golf experience. The course was excellently maintained for the summer, and the greens were not bumpy as others (due to the aeration). The sand traps were evenly filled and fluffy, unlike other courses. Water bottles on ice at several holes, plus an air conditioned bathroom building along the way helped beat the heat.
I highly recommend a round at the Superstition Mountain Country Club while you still can. It will be for members only again soon and you will have missed your open window.
Clubhouse is Amazing
They have very little staff and the staff is more worried about players tucking in shirts and wearing collars. than taking care of the guests. The greens were great very very firm and fast!! Rest of the course was spotty. This course has really gone down.
Long drive, expected a little better
Waited all year for prices to come down to play here. Prospector was closed for aeration so we "settled" for the Lost Gold course. Nice layout but bunkers were very inconsistent and all were grainy and rocky. Not fond of layouts that don't allow going for par 5s in two by putting washes right where a good drive would land.
Awesome views
A great chance to play one of the valleys finest courses.
Great staff, excellent condition , clubhouse is worth the trip alone
