Rating 29.0

Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019.

The executive-length course at the Adobe Dam Family Golf Center is mostly made up of par 3s and par 4s but there is one par 5. The golf course is suitable for beginners but it is also great for more advanced players who want to work on their short game. The course has small greens typical of older, traditional courses and they require accurate shotmaking. The last two holes are the most difficult. The Adobe Family Golf Center is also home to the Phoenix Golf School. There are also practice facilities including a lighted driving range with 50 all grass hitting stations, a pitching green that has bunkering, and a putting green.

Great place to learn (or practice on-course)

Takes me back to one of the courses I learned to play on back in Vermont. Short, simply laid out and a great place for beginners. Also better players can work on elements of their game on course. There is also a range, though I did not use it.

A friendly young man checked me in and pointed out the window toward the first tee.

Quick 9 good rate

Great for kids, beginners. Will make better golfers hit clubs and shots they usually don't. Greens are fairly small and crowned. Good time for the price of a bucket of balls.

Course in great condition

The fairways and greens were in great condition. The fairways are narrow enough to put a little challenge into a short course.

Well the greens were alright

I like to squeeze in a quick nine from time to time so I thought I would play Adobe Dam. Well what I got was some pretty poor playing conditions. I played Encanto 9 last weekend and the greens and fairways were pretty green. This place however was yellow with green spots. The pace of play was hindered by kids goofing off on the course. The only thing that was a positive was the greens. The ball rolled nicely and they seemed to be the only thing kept. Overall if you want to play a quick nine go to Encanto or somewhere else and don't bother with the kids and poor conditions at Adobe Dam.

WALK THIS COURSE

I just got my rear end kicked by Quintero yesterday. I wanted a quick easy nine to regain some confidence before I threw all of my clubs away. :) This course was in excellent shape, except for the greens. The Tee boxes were mostly flat and had good grass. The fairways were in great shape (better than Quintero). The greens were smooth and had great grass. They were just incredibly shaggy!! Like putting on my living room carpet.

The only issue I really had was hat the round was not a bad price. $8.50 for 9. The cart, on the other hand..... $10. Then I finished my round in 45 min. I asked if I could play another nine. I was told that it would be an additional $6 for another nine. Ok no prob. But, If I wanted the cart still, it was another $10. That would have made it $34.50 for 18 holes. WOW!!! They also did not allow any warm up balls for free either. It was another $4 for that. All in all, I paid $22.50 for nine holes that are so short, I finished in 45min.

They need to reevaluate there pricing and they would have a whole lot more people playing. Not many people want to walk, even a short course, in 109 temps.

Great Value

I have used the practice facilities multiple times after moving to North Phoenix but had never played the nine hole course. There are two Par 4s, 1 Par 5, and 6 Par 3s. The Par 4s and Par 5s had good turf in the fairways and all of the greens were in good conditions (no dead spots and they had been cut well). This is a great little course to practice your short game and get a little exercise walking the course.

Great course if you're a new to the game or want to practice

You'll love it if you're a beginner. A good practice facility but the range balls are darn near golf balls without dimples so you get some pretty weird ball flights.

Cheap practice

I frequent this course often (about twice a week), both the driving range and the course itself. The pros of the course are that it can be cheap if you get the right time. Thats it. The cons, the greens are shaggy. There are many dry spots. The tee boxes are often lumpy or missing grass. Another con, one of the "owners" can be crusty (not the guy named Pete. Pete seems really down to earth). Yesterday I tried to start on the back half of the course (which was WIDE OPEN) because the 1st tee had 4 groups backed up. One of the "owners" yelled at me and told me to get back on the 1st tee. He didnt care about all the groups lined up on the 1st tee. I might be in the wrong, honestly I dont know, but I was trying to speed up the pace of play and help everyone out. Anyways, being someone who plays here all the time and I bring other people here to play with me, I didn't appreciate being reprimanded in the manner that I was. Take this review for what its worth, like I said, its a good low key place to practice your short game and maybe I was in the wrong for trying to play the back half first.

Terrific value for the money

We thoroughly enjoyed our round at Adobe Dam. The fairways and greens were well kept, and the pace of play very reasonable.

We do recommend that new straps for the pull-along golf carts be installed. The old straps no longer have Velcro fasteners that hold; they are worn out and need to be replaced.

Great course for persons who want to play golf for fun--no pressure, no fancy amenities.

Good track for a little practice

This is a course that you take someone to that wants to get into golfing. They can loose all the balls they want because if they go in the rough or thicket they will find someone else s ball. A good warm up before an actual round on a nicer more expensive course down the street. Some day Pulte or KB homes will make an offer that is acceptable on this ground and what a shame but Pulte or KB will build a hundred thousand cracker box homes on it with 10 foot backyards and zero clearance. Welcome to capitalism!!!

Not the prettiest but good for what you pay

I would never nominate Adobe Dam as the nicest golf course. Does it help you with your game? Absolutely. I tend to go here when I don't have time to hit up a full 18 and enjoy it every time.
