Poor conditions
My wife and I wanted to see this executive course. We were very disappointed. Bare tee boxes, fairways and greens. Hitting out of dirt/sand fairways. Will not go back.
Last time I’ll ever play at West End
I am not one to write reviews, but feel this one is warranted.
When I moved to Gainesville 4 years ago, West End was probably the best looking public golf course in the city. Decent looking fairways, pretty true rolling greens, etc.
I played yesterday and I was sad to see how terrible the course is. The staff has completely given up on it. There is nothing good about this course anymore and for the price to play there- it is laughable. $25 for 18 holes at a Par 60 with a cart.
This course has dirt tee boxes, virtually no greens, and weeds everywhere. Then You get inside the pro shop and the entire staff seem disgruntled and have no feel for customer service. This place is a joke, but not a funny joke... more like an awkward joke in mixed company. Pass on this place, look elsewhere.
Par 3's
For an executive course the par 3's are way too long. The conditions were so poor it made getting a par very difficult.
Tough short course.
West End, a lighted, par 60 with tight shots off most tees. & they're all "the Possibilitees" with every green but the 4th reachable in regulation for even less than average length hitters. But, you'll need to miss in all the right places to save many pars. When you manage to hit a green in regulation, stay below the hole or the cussing lamp will soon be lit.
Great course to practice your short game
This is basically my home course, and so I play it several times a week. It can be a real challenge if you do not have good shot placement. Trees are a factor in nearly every hole. The course is deceptively challenging. For example, the second hole is a fairly short par 3. It looks just like it is just in front of you, and that you should be able to plop it on the green for an easy par, or even birdie. But then you realize you have an optical illusion. Huge trees on the right, and a grove of trees on the left mask the fact you are actually offset. Even with careful shot placement, you will more than likely end up in the trees ... it is like this for all 18 holes. The course is recovering from the hurricane, and the greens are coming along really well. The fairways are coming back after the hot summer, and the rough is not quite so rough any more. Great value for the money.
West End
West End is a good deal for the money for the average golfer. It is a short course, mostly par 3's with some short par 4's. Only the greens are watered, so in dry weather the fairways are a bit dusty and rock hard. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It certainly isn't Augusta, but it is cheap and the course layout is pretty good.
Horrible course please avoid at all cost!
The course only cost me $12 on golf now which I feel Is way to expensive for this course. Most of the tees and fairways and around the greens is like playing out of a bunker. I will never go back.
Good executive course
The greens and fairways have seen better days but for our purposes of playing a relaxing round this course had it for a great price. Great course to hone your short game for a beginner
Great if you want a fast paced game.
They've got some great PAR 3's on this course and the PAR 4's and 5's don't disappoint. We came later in the afternoon and got a little harassed for the smallest things only because we were being asked to move a couple of holes ahead from the front 9 because a class trip of middle schoolers were going to play. Maybe because we are young adult golfers we were given a relatively hard time for no reason it seems...none the less, the course was fun but i would love to have been able to play the whole front 9.
You get what you paid for...
Cheap price...same course and experience
Par 60 Course
It is a par 60 course with 12 par 3's and 6 par 4's. It's a good course to practice your iron play.
Nice, not great.
Not a bad course for the price. Fairly short so you can play rather quickly. Greens need a little work as well as the Tee boxes. Fairways are decent, but not great. But for $10 not a bad round of golf.
Cheap
Cheap course. Was a quick round but conditions are pretty bad. Fun for a quick short course
