Pleasantly surprised
Well...what a pleasant surprise. Played the South course yesterday. Based on info out there, I was half expecting a disaster. How wrong I was. Staff, friendly. Carts, ready. Early. But nobody in front or behind. Tee boxes,, good shape, a little hairy. Fairways, OA just fine, here there spotty, very good. Greens, OA,, good, Surprise. I think I played 2 putt on only 2 greens.
I love the South course layout. Very pleasant experience. Very good value. I shall return.
Needs TLC
We have played this course numerous times prior to Covid-!9. It was usually reasonably well groomed. for a course of its vintage. It was fair value for the Greens fee. It has obviously been over-seeded this year and that is expensive. It is growing nicely but it needs to be mowed and weeds need to be treated. Very few people were playing.
Waste of money
South was reseeded but has not followed mowing procedures to establish rye grass root base. Grass will not fill in properly until extreme directions for mowing and watering are followed. All greens need major repair for 10 to 75% of the surface area. Bare spots, holes and uneven grass and bumps make it near impossible to putt on line. The old saying of dressing up a pig with lipstick and a dress is still a pig pertains to the South course.....not quite the goat ranch conditions a month ago but very close in the near future. Has been open now 4 weeks and not one effort to repair damage has been attempted. All of the bunkers do not have sand but 1 to4 inches of grey/black dirt that turns to mud with any watering and are filled with footprints from players, birds and weeds. Save your vacation money and look elsewhere.
course with issues
The is in bad shape due to a lack of maintenance.
Fairways have a lot of weeds.
Greens have a lot a spots some with repair sand, bold spots and unpredictable.
Greens on some of the holes were egregious (they weren't even green in most parts).
Rough was very rough and hadn't been mowed in sometime.
Fairways were also in poor shape on a lot of the holes.
Won't be back
Horrible condition.
The course was in the worst shape that I have seen a course . Everything was overgrown. I can't believe that they have the nerve to charge people to golf there. Not just the tees, fairways and rough were bad, even the greens were horrible. I would definitely avoid this course.
I am sorry about the poorest conditioned course I have ever played
I was supposed to play the south course but was told when I got there that they had a hog infestation on a couple of the holes and greens. He also told me they had some other problems. The starter encouraged me to play the east course, the better of the two courses. So I played the east. I do not like saying bad things about courses, but the course really had no spots that were playable. Weeds were the best you could hope for. Sand, craters in the fairway, weeds and so forth. I lost a half dozen balls in the fairway and one next to the green. There were dilapidated places everywhere. This is the only course that I basically teed up every shot from the tee box (which were all terrible) to the fairway. Yep. The sand was unplayable. They had a sign coming in that you could not wear bathing suits while you played. Well, try it if you want hepatitis. The bubbling water in front of one of the tee boxes was crazy. That was a first. I thought to myself the "Beverly Hillbillies theme song. Smashed ball washers were a nice touch. My hope is they find a sugar daddy and put some money into the course and a great super. Homes are everywhere so they cannot do much else with the course. I should have driven out to see the hog damage. Good luck.
Mixed review on South course
Positives: The layout itself is awesome. Not impossibly long par 5s from the light green tees (2nd longest) but reaching the green in two is high risk. Par 3s were a nice mix of distances and the Par 4s had a good amount of blind greens when on the tee box.
Negatives: Course was in awful condition. Greens were next to impossible to putt on, seemed like the course has only been given the bare minimum mowing and treatment which is a shame because if it was in shape, would easily be a top course in the area.
Absolutely awful conditions!! Too bad!! Was a great course back in the day. It would be great if someone bought property and brought course back to life, but it appears it’s soon to close.
East Course Needs Much Improvement
Wow, has the east course ever gone downhill. Our group plays the east course normally once or twice a month. However, we had not booked there for probably the last 2 months. It was noted on GolfNow that the course had been aerated, and that is not what I am complaining about. The problem is that the fairways had not been moded for some time and it was hard to determine where the fairway ended and the ruff began. We actually had trouble finding our ball on the fairway a couple of times. The greens are more weeds and dirt than grass. I hate to give a negative review, but there is just no getting around the obvious lack of maintenance. We'll try again in another month or two and hope for improvement.
Don't go there
Greens were terrible. it has been getting worst but these is by far the worst i have ever seen it! this is my last time i will ever play there
Poor
The worst conditions of any golf course I ever played
in need of rain and seeding
Although the course is barren and overgrown in many that areas and the greens need to be addressed, I feel that the summer rains will greatly help.to get the course back to playable conditions.
Please understand that all courses in the central Florida area are facing the same issues.
