Beautiful golf course
I was paired with three singles for my round. We all really liked the course. The scenery is especially terrific. I live in the HOA which owns the course and was very pleased to find how much the course had been improved since the HOA bought it on Jan. 1, 2018.
Unlike a couple of recent reviewers, our group thought the greens were in good shape although they were top-coated with sand which made them slower. We all made occasional long putts and thought the greens ran pretty true. There was no sign of the poa annua that was bad last winter.
There is now a food and beverage grill open at the pro shop. The food is good and there is outside seating with water misters going...or you can sit inside in air conditioning. There is now ice, cups and water for free outside the grill. There are brick bathrooms with water fountains at the club house and at two mid-way holes.
Views of the Santa Catalina Mountains are spectacular. Another joy is the wildlife.. You are sure to see many deer which are practically tame.
Personally, I find this course hard to beat.
Great course, great views.
A lot of work clearly gone into this place recently and the course looks superb. Loads of grass. A bit "firm" and the greens really hard but held a well struck shot.
Views stunning. Welcome from pro shop staff excellent. Great range and chipping / putting greens.
Only negative (hence only 4 stars) was the information from the starter on the day. Lots of "please ask our starter John for more information on the course" messages while groups being called up. When I got to the first tee, no card, no directions, no info just "you're up next". Not even "the first hole is in this direction!!. Soon as I teed off he was off elsewhere. Didn't spoil the day though.
Course is in good shape...
This is a fun, challenging course that is currently in really good condition. Definitely recommend. The overseeding went well. Greens are in great shape Fairways are a little tight, but in good condition. Practice facilities are really good and the staff is very friendly. The layout is a little challenging and can play a little tight, but there are some great holes that are a lot of fun to play. Right now this is the Saddlebrook course in the best shape.
nice course, but the greens...
The course was in good condition, however the greens were not green, kind of grey and full of weird bumps and track marks from mowing equipment. That was disappointing.
They were fast but not true, and that is a bad combination. Not sure what happened to them,
they were much better 3 weeks ago, even though they were just coming out of overseed and fuzzy.
Way overpriced
Booked a round without reading reviews. What a mistake. Practice facilities, tee boxes, fairways,, rough, greens all in medium to poor condition.. pace of play on front nine very slow. We suspect they were members.
Painted fairways
The course apparently has not been watering for some time ands it shows. The ground is hard as a rock. It’s a very forgiving course and plays very differently from it’s sibling, the Preserve. Which is a much better track.
For the price there are many nicer golf courses to play in the Tucson area. The fairways are only green because they are painted green. The greens are questionable but the layout is wonderful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Some views are stunning but focusing on your game, they can go unnoticed. It is just overpriced for the shape it is in.
Played. What a sad experience
Greens are painted brown and as fast as my driveway. Painted concrete fairways. No overseed. Disappointed.
Poor conditions
Every green and fairway was painted. That’s fine given the time of year but this info should have been divulged prior to committing to play here and the price should be lowered accordingly There are little to no amenities on the course. Price was too high given the conditions. There are far better courses for cheaper in Tucson. The layout is nice but the conditions made it virtually unplayable.
GARBAGE
This course has gone to complete garbage! I can’t believe how much they are charging. Such a rip off. Save yourself the disappointment.
Needs Water
First round at Mountainview since last April and was very surprised and disappointed with the course conditions. The entire course (T-Boxes, Fairways and Greens) are extremely dry. Had to drive the Golf Cart slowly as the dry grass flys up and into the cart, clothes, eyes, etc. Most frustrating was the greens. Dry, hard and extremely fast! Approach shots landing on the green simply would not hold. It was like putting on a pool table or pavement. Very nice layout with exceptionally friendly staff however it pales in comparison to Saddlebrooke Ranch. They are going to have to start irrigating as a once nice course is on the verge of becoming a cow pasture. Very Sad...
Painted fairways & greens
The course was in horrible shape. There is absolutely no live grass on fairways or greens. Painted fairways & greens are never fun to play on especially for the money we paid. I would NOT recommend this course this time of the year. I feel cheated!
Where's the grass
After a warm welcome by the fine gentlemen in the clubhouse I proceeded to the practice putting green which didn't seem to have a grass surface but rather a dark solid surface which reminded me of some greens where they have painted sand topped with oil. The fairways and rough were indistinguishable from each other except for the green dye which designated the fairway. They were consistent, as were the greens, but for the price charged I felt that we had been overcharged. We had a good time but the underlying feeling was that in the future I will not return unless the price is lowered considerably or the grass grows.
