Long Course in fairly good condition
Course was good value for 22 euro on a Saturday. Dry today but could be wet in winter. Greens were good but coould have been faster with an extra cut. Relaxed atmosphere.
Challenging but fair.
I played this course as a ‘hot deal’ at noon on a bitter cold late November Friday, and I think I was the only one on the course for a time. Thus the “excellent” for value for money and pace of play. The guy in the office was very friendly, and talked me through the first few holes. He also gave me a stroke-saver, which was handy.
The greens were in fantastic condition, and were cut that day. They were solid, true and dry. Most of the fairways were wet and soggy, but with the recent rain they were about as good as you could expect. I plugged a lot of balls on the fairway or around the greens, but found most of them. I found 15 & 17 particulary difficult as the tee shots are blind so impossible to know even where to start looking for the ball. But overall I didn’t really mind.
My favorite hole on the day was 13, a short downhill par. But overall I thought it was a well layed out course.
I will definitely play this course again in the summertime when it is dryer. Based on the condition of the greens in this wet weather, I expect them to be super in the Summer. But well worth a visit any time.
AN ALL TIME FAVORITE COURSE
We thoroughly enjoy this course and try to play there every year when we visit Galway, Ireland Challenging yet fair.
Tough Course!
Very tough course! Landing areas off the tee are very challenging on a lot of holes. Lots of furze bushes!
Overall, not bad.
Course was in good shape. The clubhouse looked like it was in good shape 10 years ago but has been run down since. The foursome in front of us played extremely slow and would not let us through. Wind and rain picked up around hole 16 and forced us to stop on the 18th tee. Overall I would recommend the course to others. The fairways are fair and the greens held putts well even in the constant rain. Cheers.
Bearna Course Review March 2015
Challenging course with majestic scenery. Joined in with 2 members who were great fun to play with and great help.
The owner is an interesting guy. A GAA great (3 all Ireland Titles I think) and still a hardy buck at over 70 years old.
I had a really enjoyable day.
the best in galway
i dont get to play as much as i would like to but i try to play this course as much as i can. it really is a lovely track. it really has everything. some amazing feature holes, a good challenge and an amazing landscape. the views from the 17th in particular are stunning. the greens are the best around
surprise at the end
No pressure said the caddymaster en so it was, quiet on the course, The only pressure was the weather. From a long distance you could see the rain coming. The 15th, 16th en 17th holes were difficult and beautiful. We didn't play the 18th because of the horizontal rain. Very nice people!
Bearna Beauty
Nice views across Galway bay while playing. Very convenient to Galway. Fairways on front 9 wide open. Some very changeling holes on the back 9. There was a bit of construction debris at a couple of locations along the course. Staff was friendly, helpful & informative.
Massive fairways - True greens
First Irish golf experience.( Played in Scotland years ago.) Fairway width on the frontside were massive. Not so much on a few on the back. Greens were smoooooth.
Pro Shop man was great! Picked out some rental clubs. (Too much trouble to fly mine over for a couple rounds.) Got us going and wished us well. Walked in 4 leisurely hours. Played the 7th hole twice mistaking it for 15. So we played 19 holes.
Met owner/greenskeeper Patty... who was a famous footballer 50 years ago. A character...
Hot Deal was 22 Euros. Almost half off.
Price point ... Weekday 33
Weekend 40.
lovely course
If in the Galway area, this is a must.Friendliest staff ever.Course difficult especially when the wind kicks up.Breathtaking views of the bay from course and clubhouse. You have to be accurate of teebox or you will be punished severely.Holes 11,12,13 class.Greens perfect when I played.Play, you will not be disappointed...
