Verde River Golf & Social Club
About
Verde River Golf & Social Club (formerly known as Tegavah Golf Club and Vista Verde Golf Course) has a desert style layout that features panoramic views of Four Peaks, the Superstition Mountains, Weaver's Needle, and the Tonto National Forest. In addition to the scenery, the golf course also presents interesting challenges such as subtle contours and desert wasteland areas that guard the holes. The greens lead to generous landing areas that require precision and length. Although only one water hazard comes into play on one hole, there are several sand bunkers strategically situated throughout. Verde River Golf & Social Club offers five sets of teeboxes to offer suitable challenges for players of all skill levels and abilities.

Nice Redesign
I've played this course since it's initial opening way back when. It's been interesting to see the changes over the years. The new redesign is great with excellent playing conditions. I'll be back, as usual!
Verde River - Worth The Drive
I have now played the newly updated Verde River Golf & Social Club course twice since it re-opened. Trilogy has done a terrific job with this course and it has the potential to be one of the best courses in this area. The setting is serene, with wonderful views of the nearby mountains, and wild horses and deer adding to the setting. The course is still under development, but the vision is displayed in photos around the course, and it will be very high end. The fairways on most holes are in great condition, but some are in need of more extensive care, which I expect will be given in light of the high end aspirations for the course. I was told that the long term plan is to make it private. I love the layout. There isn't a boring hole in sight, with very interesting doglegs and angled approaches to greens, and strategically placed washes that force strategic play. You can comfortably get through a round with minimal use of your driver. The greens are excellent, with challenges presented by shelving and undulations that make every putt interesting. The practice area is excellent as it is wide and deep. And, it's sufficiently removed from the playing area that you don't encounter a ton of practice balls in the fairway after you tee off, which as we all know make it almost impossible to find your drive, whether good or errant. The staff is extremely friendly, and although the clubhouse at this time is really the size of a NYC studio apartment, your basic needs are easily satisfied. This course is worth the drive.
WAY out there!
Trilogy has bought this property and course and is aggressively developing it...way out north and east of Scottsdale...worth the trip if the price is right....great views of the east valley especially We Ko Pa...course is pretty straight forward but they have fallen in love with washes cutting across fairways on many holes...got a bit tiresome...temporary clubhouse and amenities are basic...lots of construction but may be worth the trip before it goes private which I don't see in the near (1-2 year future)
OK Course but liked it better before the big money redo
i Have played this course around 30 times but only twice since it was purchased by Shea homes and totally redone by Tom Lehman. I am a little surprised. The course is not in as good of condition as other courses in Scottsdale. The redo made the course play easier than before. The tee boxes are up from their stated yardage so you are actually playing a course that is 200-300 yards shorter than what is stated on the card. I like the course, but overall disappointed in the condition and how easy it is now versus the original layout. No reason to avoid it, it is still a good value.
Disappointed that our GPS watch did NOT work and no GPS in the cart. For the price of green fees I feel yardage markers should have been more visible or customers told no GPS set up.
Play It While You Can
We played on Friday and have played this course a few times before the recent renovation and want to say what a great job the staff has done. As previously mentioned, there is a lot of construction going on with the new pro shop but if you are there to play golf, take it all in. Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. #1 and #18 greens were a bit faster due to being new. This course is extremely fair for the mid to high handicapper depending on the tee box you play. We played the Copper. If you visit the sand traps, it may be the finest sand you will see in the Valley. Enjoy the views and the golf while you can as there is talk that this will eventually be private.
A revamped course to keep an eye on
Verde River, formerly Vista Verde and Tegavah, has been a facility in flux for awhile, but it appears that it's headed in the right direction. A visit this past week revealed a lot going on at this new active lifestyle community northwest of Scottsdale. The rub for golfers at the moment is that there is a lot of construction going on, and it would be tough to guarantee a peaceful round out here for the time being. That said, the layout is really neat, with good roll to the land, great mountain backdrops and plenty of playability for all handicaps. I may suggest waiting a little bit though until at least the clubhouse facilities are open towards the end of 2017 to return.
A Gem in the desert
This course is way out there in Rio Verde but it is an excellent course with renovation done by Tom Lehman and co. I was told that three holes are modified to make it more risk & reward type of play. Weather was perfect when we played the day before Thanksgiving. Practice facility is nice as well but need to put a yardage sign there to help understand distance for each pin. The practice green was still being worked on so couldn't practice there but greens on each hole is well maintained except 16th hole where putting green is still brown. The pace of the play was little slow and had to let one of the two some go by. Fairways are well maintained and very happy to see wild horses on the course. The clubhouse is not a permanent structure but better than what it used to be when this course was Vista Verde. Drink cart came by few times but servers were not enthusiastic to be there, at least that's what our foursome felt. Overall, this is a good course for the price we paid for a round.
I reached out to the pro-shop prior to playing there to inquire about the booklet of course layout which is not available yet but hopefully soon. The third party golf apps and GPS watch still shows this as old Vista Verde course so had to adjust holes to reflect the right score. Hopefully, Sky Caddie and Game Golf Book will update the course with new layout.
I would recommend this course to anyone.
Course construction
First of all the staff was very friendly and helpful but there was so much construction on the course and makeshift cart paths that take it away from the course. This will be a very nice course in a year or so. Wouldn't come back till the construction is over.
Earthmovers & Bulldozers
large quantity of residential construction, serious earth moving equipment to contend with, noise, dust, makeshift cart paths. Not a golf setting. Will not return again.
Nothing bad but lots of courses to compete against.
I have nothing bad to say about the course but with some many course available to play in the area I just didn't think this one stood out.
Excellent Day
An excellent day. The staff is very much in tune to customer service. Outside service, pro shop, starter & player assistant did everything to make our afternoon enjoyable. At one point we were behind a very slow group; no effort to pick up their pace or let us play through. The player assistant allowed us to skip a hole (our request) as he also reminded them of pace-if-play. The course is in excellent condition! Be prepared on some holes to be surrounded by construction, but it will not take away from the beauty of this course.
Great track and excellent value.
Second time playing this course and strongly suggest putting Verde on your list of " must play" courses. Be warned however that there's a significant housing development kicked off so there is some temporary cart paths winding around some of this development. Doesn't impact play or enjoyment of this course.
Panoramic Views Are Priceless
Verde River Golf & Social Club is worth the price of admission for the views alone. Every hole provides surrounding mountain range views.
The course layout offers variety and is fair. Fairways were severely worn in frequent landing areas but overall in good shape. The greens were hard to hold from 150 or further but rolled true. The ball does break towards Four Peaks on many occasions and is a good guide to follow.
My friends in from Wisconsin were in awe of the 360 degree views of Four Peaks, Weaver's Needle and surrounding mountain ranges.
I look forward to my next round at Verde river.
A Must Play Course
Definitely a course to be played. Course in great shape other than the bunkers which were too firm. Staff were very helpful and friendly. As the community continues to evolve looking forward to a permanent clubhouse.
Good, but...
Nice course, very good conditioning except for a few spots. Greens are significantly slower than the other courses in the area we've played. The only negative thing is that for first-timers, it is very difficult to judge landing areas off the tee shot. This is because the tee boxes are right down at the same level as the rest of the course. Most good courses elevate their tee boxes a bit so you can visually have a good sense of what sits ahead of you. especially on holes where there are waste areas, it's very difficult to visualize what you need to hit.
excellent design
Best course I have played in the scottsdale area. A little out of the way but well worth the drive. I cannot say enough good things about this course. I will play again. I come to this area every march. AAA+ rating
A hidden jewel and a must play
If you have not played here, then put
it on your list. This is a wonderful desert course with 360 degree views to be enjoyed.
Very good service and great course
Enjoyed our day at this course and will come back
