The Mines

The course is a great design. The property is very rolling, which provides for a variety of shots with varying degrees of difficulty. The greens also reflect the properties overall terrain with big breaking putts on numerous greens. Overall, a pleasure to play.

Great architecture right in town

The Mines has some fantastically designed holes in a convenient location for a fair price. You need to put your approach in the right spot to pencil in a good score. The greens are the main defense on many of the holes. The course has a fair amount of quirk to it, but it's done in a welcoming way. There are some blind shots and a lot of visual deception. The only thing holding this course back is the pace of play and the first four holes. The first four are good, but they don't compare to the rest of the course. They almost seem like they don't fit. 5-18 are all excellent and original and make this course well worth playing.

Quirky but lots of fun - great routing on tough property

Not every facility is blessed with terrain that lends itself to a great golf course, no matter what. The Mines is one of the more challenging sites I've seen, but architect Mike DeVries did a great job piecing together 18 holes out of what is really three pieces of property, divided along one plane by power lines and another by a road. In between all that, though, is a bit of a wild ride, with very few flat lies but plenty of opportunity to hit memorable shots, thanks to a set of greens with slopes that both gather and shed golf balls. If you're an open-minded golfer and understand the limitations of certain sites, you should be very impressed by The Mines.

quirky

I find that the undulating greens provide a challenge to make up for the shortness of the course. Even flat spots arent flat, minimal landing zones.

Big Greens

Love this course. Have played here plenty of times and will keep going back. Large undulating greens and hilly fairways. Staff is always friendly and helpful. If you like to walk it might be a little more difficult than you are used to. Over all geat place to play.

One of Grand Rapids Finest

This is a great course. Fun but challenging layout. I would give it 5 stars if it were open on Sundays. They do not sell alcohol.
