Great out of the way Resort
Beautiful golf course with views of Torch Lake.
Greens were quick but not unfair.
BUILD A PROPER CLUBHOUSE
See my review of 6/9/17. I've played Sundance every year since it opened. It's a wonderful track with wonderful conditioning. For the rates they charge I'm down grading by two stars because I'm sick and tired of dealing with their trailer for a clubhouse. Better yet Ag-a-ming renovate the original Torch course clubhouse/add onto that and you might get your 5 star rating. Same trailer, smelly bathrooms and sorry guys but it's about time your invest in the proper facilities to welcome golfers to this premier NoMI track.
Let us Dance (on carts)
I was pretty appalled when I saw a 3* review for this course as it is up-top on my list of "must-play" courses in Northern Michigan along with the obvious Forest Dunes and hidden-gems like Dunmaglas. This course had everything going for it: the views were spectacular, the rolling hills and elevated tee-shots made for some challenging golf and the staff there was top-notch. One thing of note, the elevation changes on the par-3s really had no effect on how far the hole played (at least for my group), which was frustrating but now you know. The cart-girls were fantastic, they made their way to our group seemingly every-other hole--which I am sure was in no small part to one of my buddies getting a little wild and dancing on their cart...
Anyways, this course is a must-play in Northern Michigan, I will definitely check it out again and also advise playing the other courses at a-ga-ming.
Nicely conditioned and recommended NoMi play
A nice routing, well designed and in very good condition. Have played the Sundance course since it opened at least once a year......it's a very nice challenging fun play. The par 3 8th and par 5 9th can be scorecard killers if you don't watch out. Sundance does require some course knowledge to master and there are several greens that are next to impossible to hold if the flag is in the wrong position so approach shot angle position is extremely important. The downhill par 3 tee box of the 17th hole provides a pleasurable vista of Torch Lake....and the 18th is a demanding finish over a pond well protected by sand traps. Excellent range and practice facilities. 4 stars plus. Downgrading only because they still operate out of a trailer so it's very cramped with only one bathroom for each gender. Old school Torch course is also on site (also worth a play) with food/beverage at the original clubhouse with beautiful vista of Torch Lake on the deck available post round. I wish A-ga-ming would either build a new clubhouse or just move out of the trailer after renovating and upgrading the original Torch course clubhouse.
Pace of play can be poor/Very good golf course 4.5 stars
Since Ag-a-ming opened the Sunset course in 2005 I've played it at least once each year. It's always been maintained well, greens are smooth and fast, decent sand in the bunkers and they do have a nice range and practice facilities. A very fair and challenging golf course that's scenic with generous fairways. Not your typical Northern Michigan golf course cut through forest. It's by far the most expensive of the three golf courses Ag-aming runs (Sunset, Torch and now Antrim Dells) and must point out that you can play several courses in the area that are just as well maintained for significantly less cost (by as much as 50pct or more). Pace of play if crowded has always been an issue. Some rounds can take more than 5 hours if you're behind an outing. Again very nice track....they need to build a clubhouse rather than continuing to work out of a trailer.
