Hillcrest OK
It was a good value, but just an average course. Greens perhaps a bit below average. Not difficult.
its about to close and the course sadly looks like it. The end for a once really good course.
Looks like the developers won. Sad to see. Great staff very friendly and professional but unfortunately the course looks like it was closed down a month ago. Sadly it is another course being closed down for development.
Good Value
This course is fun to play. The greens weren't in great shape but the fairways were good. I enjoy playing this course once a month and it is a good value
Eh
If you're a decent golfer that is looking for quality golf course this is not the one. Very slow and bumpy greens. And crab grass. Fairways were okay
Good layout but course conditions deteriorate
It used to be a very good course but the conditions of the course deteriorate a lot recently. Some greens have very bit spots of burned sections. The layout is good so if you can find a way to play this course for less than $30 during season, I would still recommend it.
Just and OK course
For $31 course was OK. However, greens were in very poor condition. Out of 18 holes, 2 or greens were OK, the rest were brutal - very little grass on them to putt on! Best part was 2 for 1 beers ($4 for 2 beers!)
nice course
probably because of the rain green was bad..and the fairway average
A little sad.
Decent layout and very accomodating for tee times, but the course is being let go.
Tee Boxes to Greens are clearly not getting frequent maintenance. Greens were "ok", but holes are definitely not changed often and they are beat up.
Back nine layout is nicer, and course has no layout printed to follow but older signage around course kind of works.
No question that it used to be a nice track, but it's been sadly let go.
Interesting layout, could be better maintained
Interesting layout. This course has some potential. Not a lot of water in play but nice finishing hole with a narrow island green. The presence of a drop area could be better indicated. You only notice it once you get onto the green.
Could be better maintained. Yellowish fairways, tee boxes and greens. Greens are fast enough, not super fast though.
Repairing divots or ball marks seem to be an option for people who play there. Same thing for raking a sand trap. They a re not well defined either so you can use a putter to get out from many of them.
We saw a marshall a few times but he did not seem to be very efficient. We ended up playing a 5 hour round.
Not much water to drink on the course but there is a cart lady. Decent prices.
Not worth the money
My family foursome played four courses over the Thanksgiving holiday. Hillcrest cost the second most, but by far had the worst conditions. Molded and weedy greens, bare dirt fairway's and tee boxes. Disappointing considering the high green fees.
NG
Lost two holes! No signs to next tee! Crazy! After 14 you get turned around because there are no signs !
Hillcrest
Solid Championship style course for a good price. Greens have great contours and nice course layout
The greens are no good conditions
This is the second time I play this course , the first time the course are in better conditions than I played yesterday . Greens are no good conditions
Rangers Needed
This could have been a terrific day for golf had a ranger been available to maintain a reasonable pace of play. My buddy and I were a twosome. We encountered a foursome at the second hole and it was slow from that point forward. The two male and female couples had more than a hole open in front of them. We allowed a lone player to play through. When he approached the foursome, he waited an ultimately decided to pick up and go to the next hole. We slowed our pace of play to a point where my decent play went completely in the toilet . The threesome behind us We're annoyed also. Regrettably, in all my years of playing at Hillcrest I don't recall ever seeing Rangers on the golf course. Now with the uncertainty as to whether the golf course is closing, I doubt very seriously if anything will change with regards to rangers.
Really friendly staff!
Never played here before and welcomed like old friends.
We were sent off as a twosome and thought we'd be held up all day. Turns out that the course wasn't too busy and we didn't see anyone for most of the day. The course could use some sprucing up - some greens were rough as were the fairways - but we had an enjoyable day!
Didn't eat in the 19th hole but enjoyed the friendly staff!!
Great pace but course conditions so-so
Fairways were OK but many of the greens had thin or no grass in large areas.
The rumors must be true
This has always been a premier course but that ship has sailed. The fairways are poorly drained and show signs of not bring filled in. There are large bare spots in all the fairways. Greens have large places that show disease and were recently aerated so they aren't rolling very nicely. Sand in the bunkers was so hard it is almost like hardpan. The cart path coming around hole #5 is so overgrown you can hardly drive your golf cart on the path without going through trees growing over the path. At least the Par Aides had water in them.
I think one of the things that bothered me most was that they bagboy/starter wanted me to go around to my group and and collect all the slips to give him. Excuse me, but that's YOUR job, not mine.
I also choice to eat the buffet in the 19th hole. The pork was SO overcooked, the bartender suggested I put some sauce on it. It wasn't because the sauce was so good but because the pork was so dry. When I changed to the beef, the cooks assistant came over and gave me one slice. When I asked for a 2nd slice, she cut a tiny piece off the opposite end. If it's all-you-can-eat, who cares how much I eat? She shouldn't wonder why she didn't get a tip from me.
Rumors have been swirling for over a year that the course was going to be closed and with the lack of money and effort being put into the course and it's facility, I would tend to believe it. To pay $46 for this course in this condition was $10 to $15 too much for a Florida resident.
Extremely Friendly Staff and nice facility
I play here often, the staff is always extremely friendly, the course is in decent shape except this time the greens are worn out. Overall I recommend it always.
Beautiful finishing hole !!
Great time !! The course was challenging however very enjoyable !! I'll play this course again !!
Mean #18
Very good conditions but hole direction signs could be improved in the overlapping areas. No ranger on site and pace was slow. The 18 hole with its island green represents a definite challenge but it is what I remember this course for, its definite signature.
