Felt like an up north course
I understand why you can't drive on a few of the fairways, but some of the others really bogged the pace of play. Other than that the course is really nice and you can shoot low with the pretty flat greens that rolled nicely. I only played through 16, because the sun was setting, but I planned on coming back anyway!
I had forgotten just how good Moose Ridge is...
This course is top notch in so many respects. It offers a challenging environment with plenty of slope and great views for any level of player. My group played one set of tees up from the tips and distance was never an issue (my average drive is 255-265 yards). This course offered more than enough challenge particularly if you don't bring your A game. A wonderful variety of holes creates a real championship golf environment and the condition of the greens was pristine with a true roll that tested our strokes rather than our luck.
The day we played was a perfect fall color day and the ampitheater of the trees was just amazing. I like the style of this layout as it gets more difficult from tee to green. Tee shots were demanding from a scoring standpoint but as much in terms of losing balls and strokes.
I didn't rate the value of this course all that well because I think it normally runs around $60 which I think is steep in this ecomomy but it was an offer I couldn't refuse at an $18 hot deal.
If you can play here for <$40 you are winning!
Even after getting my 1st hole in one I won't be back
Really love the topography of this course, TRUE up north feel, but the pace of play is really affected by fact the carts are not allowed on a lot of fairways resulting in unnecessary walking. It backed up play more than needed. Probably won't come back until this problem is resolved, even after I had a hole in one on the par 3 16th.
Nice course, rude and unfriendly staff
The course was in great shape. Pace of play is slow. The staff are crabby and a bit rude.
One course must play
One pleasant day of golf. Course was excellent and the greens were quit smooth but tricky. I would recommend this course, and I will replay it.
my new favorite course
couldnt of found a better piece of land. super tough course. challenges every part of your game. but soooooooooooo much fun. second time playing it and it got better than the first time. worth the hour drive. lots of elevations but truely fair. except for number #4 on the blue tees. first time i had an 8 and second time i had a 7. i will par that hole one day. lol
High handicappers ?
Great course. Played here years ago and forgot what a challenge it is. Seniors and high handicappers may feel intimidated. You make a mistake you pay. Will be on my list of top courses in South Michigan. Beware that lots of holes are cart path only and it can be a chore getting to your ball.
A joy to play
After spending a week playing courses in the Ann Arbor area Moose Ridge was my favorite. A beautiful course.
I would make this my home course if I ever moved to the area. Go!
Not worth it
Greens were full of old divots. Fairways had dead patches of grass in them. Golf maintaince staff has no golf etiquette. Ranger won't tell his slow buddies in front of us to let us pass. Had to wait on every shot. Pro shop is a sorry excuse for one.
Worth the Drive
Sometimes it's difficult to find a course within an hour of Detroit that has hills, great scenery, challenging golf and superior service -- Moose Ridge has all four. The course in general and the greens in particular are in great condition. Staff could not have been friendlier, including the pro shop guy, the starter (who went out of his way to give me tips on the course and stopped to ask me how I was enjoying the course and round when I encountered him after 12 holes) and drink cart girls. Everyone here has learned that service with a smile makes a great impression, and I was very impressed.
Great condition and fun to play.
Tee to green, this course was looking great. The putts were rolling great and the fairways were consistent. The views from this course were spectacular, and while this is a little out of the way, it's incredibly worth the 45 minute drive. It's pretty lengthy and you can get yourself into trouble. Overall just an enjoyable experience. Would recommend for intermediate players 8-12 Handicap, and anyone over that should tee it forward, it will be more fun.
Great course with an up north look
Thourghly enjoyed this course except for the slow play and the annoying carts that would shut down if too close to a hill etc...
Crowded course
The groups are started too close together and twosomes separated and created crowding and backups. We were playing on schedule and ended up letting two twosomes through and we were playing fast. As you are rarely allowed to drive on the course with your golf cart and the hills are really rolling.... It takes some time to walk to your ball and back. I refuse to run through my game like other groups were doing. Beautiful course and wonderfully maintained. Very challenging with the tight fairways and woods.
Did Not Disappoint
Had to see what the buzz was about at Moose Ridge in South Lyon and it was an excellent course. Got a great GN deal and played early in the morning as a single. Greens were spectacular and the GPS on the carts at Moose Ridge were not loaded with advertisements which was also nice to see. The course is gettable and has many scenic holes, placement off the tee is key. Even had a links type feel on a few holes with large bunkers and swales of heather. The clubhouse & grille have a great feel and the "Moose Ridge Sunrise" drink special was a bonus. Get to Moose Ridge for a great day on the course.
Twilight?
We booked twilight through golf now but we paid additional fee for another 9 holes.
Staff was great, course if beautiful
I was shocked by the friendly guys in the pro shop, usually you don't find this. This place is great all around, I will def. be back.
Outstanding golf course.
One of the best I have ever played. Scenic, well trapped, great condition. Good T selections, good for all players.
Beautiful course and immaculate conditions
One of favorite courses I've played in the Midwest. Absolutely worth a drive. Beautiful course with excellent conditions. Greens, fairways, everything in excellent condition
Recommendation to golfers: bring bug spray
To course: wish greens were slightly faster. May be because it has been wet but they were little slower than hoped.
Thoroughly enjoyed
I played this course for the first time and really enjoyed it. The greens were running fast and slow. Some of the greens were deceiving and didn't break when it clearly showed a break in the putting line so, enjoy figuring this out. As others have mentioned, you get the feeling of playing an "up north" course here. As mentioned by a few. The time of play can be longer. Too many area's roped off and results in lots of walking time if your ball lands opposite of the roping. If your more than a 10 handicap, the course will add more play time for you too. I plan to play here again and real soon.
GREAT COURSE!!!!
This is a 1st class course with topography that is unique to this part of Michigan. Course feels like it up in Gaylord with a great layout. Since some holes are roped off (no carts) the walk to your ball can be a bit of a hike(tip....keep your ball on these holes to an area closer to the cart path...lol...good luck)...course offers all abilities a challenge...try it..you'll like it
