Bring your mud shoes
This was the second time I played lederach and both times the fairways were very wet. I guess the course has poor drainage, it was not like we had an unusually Rainey day prior to play.
The fairway was especially wet on approach shots to the green. A couple of times my ball got stuck in the fairway on my approach shots when it should have bounced another 20 yards onto the green.
Otherwise we really enjoyed the course.
Nice course, pace of play can be improved
This was the first time I played this course, although it is almost 50 mins drive for me thought of trying it with one my buddies.
Course was great and lived upto the expectation, from the starter to the people at pro shop they were great.
Played from the green tees but next time would definitely try the black, one of the few public courses which I have played where the fairways and greens were well maintained. Although some of the greens had shoe and ball marks due to some players ahead of us not taking the time to repair it.
There was a beverage cart on the course as well which was good for us.
Pace of play was good atleast for us till the 14th hole where we stumbled upon a 4 some, the last 4 holes was a drag.. This area needs a bit of attention by the course, may be the marshal needs to push the slow movers or let the fast players play through.
Overall I will suggest this course.
lederach stop
Even though with recent rain, course in very good shape, bunkers a bit tough, nothing a little drying out won't fix, but over all always a good product when I play here.Just remember, pick the right tee boxes tol enjoy yourself.
Philly 4
Course was in good shape. Greens were tough. Cart girl came around often to make sure we had everything we needed.
Play was very slow. No Marshall's around to check pace of play we had to wait on almost every hole. There were a twosome in front of us who also had to wait. The foursome in front of them were so slow.
Awesome layout, confused about the greens
First and foremost, this course is a bear. 7,000 yards (from the tips) and one heck of a layout to try and navigate. Fairway bunkers dead in the middle of the fairways, ungulations in the greens that can sometimes be 3+ feet up & down, green shapes thatd you won't find anywhere else. Conditions of the course have always been above average, however, everytime Ive played this course the greens have been extremely hairy, and extremely slow. To me, a links style course should have right, hard, rolling greens to match the rest of the course. These greens have been consistently hairy, this would be my only gripe. Great value with golfnow.
Excellent course, worth the drive, well taken care of
Booked a 6:09 teetime on a Saturday. I live appoximately an hour from the course, but at 5am, it was a quick drive. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the starter, Don. I'm a 20 handicap and played from the Green Tees (which are the same as the White on other courses). The course is challanging, but very playable. Some holes played a stroke longer for me and the greens are large but don't be too far from the pin. I liked this couse, I had a great day and would play here again.
Great course. Will play again!
I've heard about this course and yes this is fun course. There is no boring holes and definitely make me want to play again and again.
Several holes, with decent drive distance, you can have big advantage. otherwise, better to position your tee ball strategically.
With 10-15 mph headwind, 600+ yard uphill par 5 from blue tee was a BIG challenge.
This course has a great layout
This course will challenge any golfer from beginners to novice. The Black tees play over 7,000 yards while the green play a little of 6,000 yards. Cant wait to play here again.
Found it tuff
Big greens in great shape, rolling fairways had the ball above and below on 90% of shots.
Sunny Day of Golf at Lederach
The day began with a friendly and courteous starter meeting me at the bag drop to load my clubs. The staff in the pro shop was also friendly. The course was in excellent shape. The secondary rough was thick and the greens were very fast making the very challenging. I will return to play again but will certainly stay on the short grass.
Afternoon getaway
Always enjoy playing the course, conditions are always in great shape.
Great Shape, thick rough
The course was in great shape but the rough just off the fairway was a bit thick most likely because of all the rain we have been getting. If you missed the fairway even by a foot the ball disappeared into the thick rough and it took a few minutes to find, if you could. This ended up slowing the pace a bit and we couldn't finish our round because it started to rain heavily by the fifteenth hole.
Great Course
This is a great course for everyone. The staff was extremely friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my round.
"Gimmicky"
Let me start by saying that the course has typically been in very good shape for a public track. Definitely one of the best that are available to those of us in the Philadelphia suburbs. My major complaint regarding the conditions recently (greens were "scruffy"), I'll just chalk up to being early in the season. But, it is what it is, I know plenty of courses in the area that were able to cut their greens sufficiently for a solid 10.
However, there is a common denominator for every time I've played there. The greens are such a gimmick. They are huge. I mean...HUGE. Huge with some crazy undulations that don't really seem to belong other than to make you scratch your head and wonder what they were thinking. Look, I get that there's an audience that appreciates the larger greens, but some of the undulations are truly unnecessary.
Finally, I found that there was no real need to strategize too much off the tee. I could essentially hit driver on every par 4 or par 5 except for one without thinking too hard about the risk/reward of it. I do enjoy the reachable par 4, 18th, though!
It was ok
Played the course in mid December. The rate was ok given the time of year. The pace of play was awful. There were two fivesomes allowed to play about 5 holes before us. It backed up the entire course for the day. We started at noon and it took 3 hours to get thru 9 holes. Needless to say we were not able to finish in time for sundown. We should have been able to with no problem.
Golf
Excellent course, weather was great. 4- some in front of us were very slow/ playing from blues. However it would be expected on an excellent weather day. Great course/great employees
Great Course "however"
Great Course pace of play horrible. 3hours to play 9 holes.
pace of play
i just don't understand when you are one of the first 4 or 5 groups out how you can almost take 5 hours to play a round
The course ,staff, food is awesome but they need rangers out on course to push pace of play early in the am never saw anyone and was out there for 4:50 hrs that is a little much. I love course and will be back but want 1st tee time from now on
Fun course
I had fun playing from the blues, approx. 6600 yds. As it was the first time playing, I was very much surprised at the severity of the greens. If you are playing there for the first time you need to have readonable expectations because great shots can turn bad because of green contours. Conditions of fairways and tees were average. All in all fun but a little more pricey than other publics in the area. Non-the-less, a fun time!
LOOOOONG Round.
I've played this course many times and it is usually in good condition; however, this was the worst condition I've ever seen it. Typically this is a 4* course, but right now it is a 3*. Also they had way to many golfers on the course. We had a 1pm tee time for two. Their website showed only one tee time taken from 12pm to 1pm, as of 11:15am. We got there early to try and get out earlier. There was no starter and we were the fourth group waiting at the first tee at 12:45. Our round took 5:10, way too long. A ranger finally came out to us at the 14th hole (which had a group on the green, a group on the tee and us waiting behind them) to apologize. This is one of my favorite courses in the area, but I don’t have time for a 5+ hour round. Not sure I’ll be back until they can improve the pace of play.
If you are a 20-24 handicap you should be moving up to more forward tees, not back.
