Jacksonville Beach Golf Club
About
The newly revamped Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, built in 1959, is one of the only public access courses on Jacksonville's Beaches. The golf course was originally designed by Sam Snead.
The changes at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club began with the rebuilding and modernizing of more than half the greens on the golf course, along with some new bunkers and bulkheads to add to the already beautiful look.
The 18-hole golf course measures 6,510 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71.9, with a slope rating of 126.

Hard fast greens
Not sure why the greens are so hard and fast on a course that's usually windy. Everything had to be landed on the front of the green if you wanted to try to keep it on. We did enjoy the number of shorter par fours.
fairways need some work
redesigned course much nicer than it was. Greens bunkers playability all better, carts are new too. Fairways still need some improvement..lots of sparse grass, hitting off dirt alot. But overall a fun course to play. @ 4somes let us play through so we (wife and I) were done in just over 3 hours!
Much better than it was
The course improvements were well done. The greens are fast and true and the bunkers are in great shape.
Loved the changes to the course, the greens are great ! Bunkers have good sand in them to. Played Friday and Saturday morning and had a issue with the cart girl both days. Getting a cup of ice was like a big no no! Then on Saturday tee time was 7:30 didn’t see the cart person tell 11:30.. wow!!!
Go play it
They did a great job refurbishing the course!
Greens are challenging and in wonderful condition.
New carts with GPS are top notch!
Slow pace of play & Fivesomes
When I review a course, I try to take into account the overall experience. Jacksonville Beach hit the mark with the re-model, good conditioning, and excellent greens. If reviews were solely based on the the course itself, this would be a four star review.
However, the pace of play ruined the experience and in my opinion is what is wrong with the game of golf right now. Tee time was 11a on a Monday. 5 hour round of golf, and it was the group in front of us, which was a fivesome, holding up the course.
After waiting for many minutes for each shot, we finally made the turn at 2.5 hours. We asked if we could play through on #10, and the group denied our request. We asked the ranger if he could help us out, and he would not and mentioned they were on pace.
We finally finished the round at 4p. A five hour round, and the course staff not willing to help enforce a decent pace of play.
It's difficult to recommend a good course when the staff doesn't recognize that a 5 hour round isn't acceptable.
Really like the course remodel though!
Rain Check
It began raining on about the 4th hope I played and they only provided us with a 9 hole rain check. I think that’s absolutely ridiculous, considering what I paid to play out there.
Terrible staff and customer service. Pro shop turned me away saying the course was closed at 5pm. Usually liked this course but will not come back nor will I recommend it to anybody.
Steve
Course was in great shape. Indication of the $2 million spent on improvements. Greens were fast but excellent.
big improvement
greens are much much better. The fairways need a bit of work, bunkers greatly improved. Overall great value.
agree with the previous poster - customer service is lacking
Starting with a reprimand for being walk-ons our outing started off less than desirable and amazingly got worse ! Using Jax Beach Golf's own website we could see plenty of open Tee times so not much logic used.
We then noticed a sign showing major price increases and once again logic was in short supply. Too many categories to post here but for example their members rate for walking 9 holes is going from $8 to $14 ! 75% !!
It was argued that was still a good deal but really ? Windy Harbor is very comparable and its $11 there - INCLUDING a cart !
Yes I was one who was a sucker and bought a membership. It was pointed out that I'd easily make back the $175 but not likely now as I'm not in agreement that $14 to walk 9 is a great deal.
I will add that this increase comes just 3 months after they took our cash for an annual membership - completely dishonest to raise rates 75%. In theory I guess they could've pulled that a week after we paid so I guess I'm lucky ? ;-)
Maybe others will balk at the new prices making the course faster so there's that but in my opinion they should be grateful for their clientele and remember the not so old days when no one wanted to play there
Greens are great and the rest seems to be coming...
Great greens and they were working on the fairways so the course should be a+ in a few months. Great value, on phenomenal greens.
Great upgrades to the course
I played there about 2 years ago and it was avow pasture but with the new greens and bunkers it is a really good course can’t wait for the next phase of upgrades when they redo fairways and other areas that should be grass and not dirt...
A local gem at the beach
This course is newly renovated, and I was told that some of the holes were changed. I mention this because my Garmin GPS GolfWatch was frequently wrong with the yardage- so beware!
The course is in nice shape - lots of sand in the traps, and I saw today that the greens were recently aerated. I had the pleasure of joining two players who had played here before, and their course knowledge kept me on track all day.
There is quite a bit of water (of course, this is FL!) and a few crazy birds, but the greens are the real challenge.
Overall, I found the course an enjoyable challenge and will certainly visit again.
Great changes to course layout.
Really enjoyed playing the course with the new layout changes. The only problem I had was when the carts shut down when you were in a restricted area. I dont mean to say that this is not a great idea to keep the carts where they should be, but when the cart paths are not designated, it's frustrating when the driver has no idea which way to go to stay in the correct area.
9am foursome
As recent reviews have stated the course has been completely redone and it’s in great shape.
It was a gusty Sunday and four of us still played in about 4 hours. It rained the night before but the greens were firm and roll very true (the undulations in them make it comparable to pv inn nearby)
I think it is now the best public course to play in the Jax / beaches area. Highly recommended
I feel like you're my long lost twin. Same problems on the Austin munis and drives me nuts. They allow fivesomes and I don't know what the rangers are doing out there. Unreal. Glad the reno went well though.
