Eaton Canyon is almost back
It broke my golfing heart to see the previous management let this golf course fall into such a deep level of disrepair. We used to play here all the time. A 9-hole, regulation-Length course that played in just over 2 hours was a great way to squeeze more golf into a busy schedule. But the drought and generally poor management made the course virtually unplayable.
Then, in September of 2017, management changed. We started hearing rumors that the new management really knew what they were doing, that things were improving. Wanting to see for ourselves, we played two weeks ago for the first time in over a year. I was blown away at just how much better it is than the last time we played. In just a few short months, the greens are pretty good, the fairways actually have some grass on them, in short, Eaton Canyon is playable again.
There is still work to do, but the new company has worked wonders so far and I have no doubt they will continue to improve the course. If you are looking for a quick 9-holes of regulation golf, I highly recommend you try Eaton Canyon. You won’t be disappointed.
Good bang for your buck
This was my second time playing this course, and I will definitely play here again as it is a good value and a fun course. I played on a Sunday morning and the pace of play was good, the greens were in good shape, it’s not too difficult, you get to use most of your clubs, and the trees on the course are beautiful. Also, I like how it’s mostly par 4s and has two par 5s which is unique for a 9 hole course. Only down sides are good luck finding your ball if you’re not on the fairway and the staff seems a bit disorganized.
Good experience, golfnow an issue
This is the second or third time I have booked a tee time on golfnow where the staff were blindsided by my reservation. I only got on because there was a cancellation with the group on the tee box and couldn’t warm up or anything, just had to run up and tee off. Course was great, greens were fast, and rate of play was reasonable. Just kinda annoyed that there seems to be a disconnect between the app and the course staff at the course you’re booking for. Same thing happened at Altedena and San Dimas.
Pleasant Day
Eaton could us an intervention to restore its cart paths. They are in terrible condition. Walking the course it would not be noticeable, but I don’t have time so I must ride. And the ride is a rough one.
Other than that, Eaton offers a pleasant day on the course.
Bumpy Round
I enjoy playing Eaton. It challenges my skill, or lack thereof, just enough to have fun without leaving the course depressed.
My only gripe, and it’s a big one, would be the cart paths. I don’t usually have time to walk the course so I choose to ride. However, the cart paths are in such horrible condition the ride is ridiculously bumpy, uncomfortable, and even painful. I would participate in a “fix the cart path fund” in a heartbeat.
Next round I’ll bring a big pillow to sit on.
