Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course

About
Although it is tucked away among rolling green hills and mature oaks, Lake Jovita Country Golf & Country Club is conveniently less than 30 minutes north of Tampa. The club offers two championship golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course, the original track at Lake Jovita, has a more traditional design than the other course. It features generous fairways and velvety-smooth greens. The layout weaves through lakes and ponds that into play on several holes. The course was built to fully utilize the hilly terrain, incorporating a variety of elevation changes throughout. The par-5 11th hole even features a 94-foot drop from tee to green, which is the largest natural elevation change in the entire state. It is one of Florida's "must-play" courses

issues that could be addressed
Playing the South course for the first time I had a few issues.
1. No in cart GPS or even a course layout map which with this course was an issue as there are so many blind shots and forced carries to be made.
2. getting from one hole to the next ,I got lost twice.
The course is in very good condition but we would have enjoyed the day better if we new what was around the corner or over the hill.
Nice Course - Bad Pace of Play/Value
Nice course with rolling hills which offered a good change of scenery for Florida however pace of play was terrible. It took us 5.5 hours to finish. We did call the clubhouse (people behind us did as well multiple times, they were members and apologetic) but nothing was done. Multiple times we had 4 groups waiting on a par 4 (group on green, group in fairway waiting to hit and 2 groups waiting on the tee box). We did get a hot deals for $80 a round, not even sure that was a good value as TPC Tampa has similar rates / course was in good shape, greens were consistent speed, we’d consider playing again if pace of play was faster.
100 degrees at tee time
At tee time it was a 100 degrees
Even with the hot temperatures of summer we enjoyed our round on this course. We were delayed arriving at the course due to multiple traffic obstructions but the staff was very accommodating. The curse was in great condition considering the area had been experiencing a drought and a cold adult beverage topped off a great afternoon. We look forward to playing both courses when it’s a bit cooler.
Hidden Gem
Course was in between myself and friend in clermont and we were shocked at how nice the layout was. Tough, but not the toughest. Apparently the South course was an old Q school course. Definitely gonna play again.
This is Logs go to Track
We always enjoy our days at Lake Jovita. Pace of play was perfect on this round. Always a pleasure for The LOGs
Poor winter condition and maintenance.
They didn't reveal the poor condition of the greens and a temporary green on 18 of the South course until we checked in. I wouldn't have made the tee time if I knew the conditions. Winter dormancy is still evident on most tee boxes and greens. They have a disease on the greens as those were very short and the front nine had been aerated in the last week. The greens didn't hold. The putting surface was like the sidewalk. It is a beautiful layout. The bunkers were recently filled with the best sand. I wouldn't go back.
Great Courses at Lake Jovita
Played the north course last year, which was excellent. The starter recommended we also play the south course if we had a chance. So this year we took the hour and 1/2 ride from Bradenton and played the south course. Loved the layout and course aesthetics. The greens are extremely challenging, which I liked. The pro shop guys were extremely welcoming. Most of the course was in great shape. There were a couple of rough tee boxes and not much grass around some of the greens, due possibly to dormancy. There was a temporary green on #18 as sand traps were being worked on. Overall it really is a must play if you're in the area. IF it's windy I was told the south course is where you want to be. We, however had an ideal day. We shall return.
17 good golf holes
After you get past the ridiculous 1st hole (unless you can carry your driver 290 you will have a mid iron off the tee and another mid iron into the green) the other 17 holes are very good and well maintained.
Challenging but Fun to Play
The staff at Lake Jovita were friendly and helpful. The starter was great, had the t-box on schedule and moving along. There was no wait, and the round was completed in a little over 4 hours. Always enjoy playing Lake Jovita during our winter break. The t boxes were in pretty good shape and the greens were excellent which has been the case over the past few years. I found the bunkers to be not so good. The goal is to stay out of them but when you find yourself in one it is disappointing when you can tell they haven't been raked or cleaned up in quite a while and quite a few footprints. They are in the process of redoing the bunkers (#9) so maybe they will get to them over time. Plan to play here again next year.
Course is beautiful, but no carts? Really !!
As always the course is stunning. But after paying 120.00 each fpr a twosome. We arrived 45 minutes prior to tee time so we could warm up ,but was told no carts available. Had to walk a pretty a ways to range, then straight up hill tp putting green ....until finally a few minutes before tee time a cart was available. Not acceptable for the high price . Management should be embarrassed by this. Will definitely remember this when I decide where to play again .
Fantastic!
Yes it costs a bit more but you only get what you pay for…Lake Jovita is the best public golf courses in the Tampa area!
A Gem !!
Wow, what can I say? Beautiful layout with beautiful huge greens. They roll really fast and a lot of curves in them so never straight putts… Conditions are excellent! In this time of year, the fairways are perfect. Greens are perfect.
I’ll be back for sure!! to replay this beautiful South Course or to try the other 18 hole ; The North Course.
really cold and wet when we played which was unfortunate and nothing can be done about that. What bummed us out was that we were unaware a hole on course was closed for construction and there was no discount rate for this which I thought was weird.. we had drove 90 minutes to play it and are from out of town so we didnt really want to go somewhere else. beautiful course, I would love to play it again when its warm and dry!
Beautiful layout
What a gorgeous layout. Lake Jovita South course is open and still it makes you think your way around. The first four holes seem straight forward but be carful. The 9th and 18tg holes are bracketed by a beautiful lake. Fairways have been over seeded and are lush. The greens are lightning fast. It’s a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. We are staying on the property for a month and have played the course a handful of times. Definitely a place you will want to play if you are within an hour of the course.
Nice Course, Poor Pace of Play
Fairways and Tee's, overseed Rye was lush and green.
Greens are smooth and Fast.
Pace of play, 5 hrs for 18, no ranger
Course still recovering from Hurricane damage
