Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - North Course
About
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club offers two championship courses, the North and the South. Both courses sprawl across a verdant landscape covered with mature oaks, lakes, and ponds. The terrain is unusually hilly for Florida. Like the South Course, the North Course is undulating with a lot of movement but it has even greater elevation changes than the South, which provides scenic views of the surrounding community. On a clear day, golfers can see at least five miles to the northeast from the second tee. The North has a more modern layout that plays a little bit longer. Although the golf courses are nestled amongst rolling hills, Lake Jovita is situated just 30 minutes north of Tampa. The unique hilliness of the courses and their convenient location have made them some of Florida's must-play courses.

Lake Jovita-you get what you expect
The course is in very good shape for the time of year. Greens are pure and fast. Fairways are tight as grass is yet dormant. Rough is dry and dormant also. Did play as a 3some and done in 4 hrs as course had a good pace. Did get a hot time so value for what you get is very good. We did play north course, I like the south better yet
Lake Jovita North
Forgiving fairways. Tough greens.
Overall in good shape.
First time disappointed with pace of play
I have played Lake Jovita at least 30 times - and would have played more if it was closer. However it’s about an hour and 20 minutes from where my foursome lives. But because of the course and the wonderful outings we’ve had - we keep going back. Unfortunately, our last outing (yesterday 3/20) was unlike any experience we’ve ever had at Lake Jovita. The round took 4 hours 45 minutes to play- solely because of the foursome in front of us. To say they were slow would be an understatement. By the ninth hole they had a hole and a half open in front them. When they departed the 15th green they were 2 1/2 holes behind the group in front of them. Two groups behind us gave up on the back 9 and called it a day. It was an agonizing experience that could have been avoided if the club had a Ranger on the course. Again - I LOVE the course - but this experience was simply unacceptable.
Always great to play
It was a busy Monday at the course. The rate we paid we paid for this time of year was $60 special I live only 20 minutes from the course and had company in town so it was an easy choice. The fairways were a little short- tight lies as our growing season is just starting now. We got paired up with a father/son and had a great time the pace of play was just over 4.5 hours which was good for the amount of golfers
Jovita North - first time but would play again.
First time playing this course. Course is in impeccable condition, and the greens while not super fast, have undulations that make them tricky (it was obvious even at the practice greens). I would assume if you're a regular, you'll know where to hit the ball and manage better than us, but I thought the course was very nice and would play again. We teed off at 3pm so got a significant discount per person w/ cart. The range was closed for maintenance on Monday so keep that in mind.
The greens were challenging.
The overall condition of the course was in very good shape. The greens were challenging but a pleasure to putt on.
Great course
Lake Jovita was its usual self. In great shape and very fun to play
Great conditions, challenging greens, very nice course!
First time on this course (North). We played late (3:10) so likely not going to finish and we had the local college team playing ahead of us. Course is in very very good condition and it's very picturesque and challenging. Driving off the tee is fair with some carries (open), but the greens if you're on the wrong side (narrow approaches with undulating greens), is extremely challenging. I would go back again.
Pace of play
Only issue. They sent a single out ahead of us followed by a twosome behind us. Poor management of tee times. We waited all day. The foursomes did OK. The single dropped back after nine and joined the twosome at our suggestion. The starter should have sorted this. 15 minutes quicker on the back nine but still 4:40 to play on a Monday.
Great features
I rated the pace of play as excellent,we didn't see a group in front of us or behind us. Maybe that was a dead giveaway as to what we experienced. Our foursome has played the North and South courses many times over the last 2 years. Back in December, we played the South course. Have to say we were disappointed with the conditions around the greens and fairways. So we decided to try other locations and give some time for the course to recover. Maybe it was getting too much play. Like others, we are not concerned about paying $80 plus if the conditions warrant that. It has to be money well spent. Lake Jovita must be going through some transition. As I walked into Proshop I heard a manager asking a member of the course, "So how was it?" Referring to conditions, and all I heard was, well it was alright. Well after the 4 th hole we were all saying, it's alright, but not worth the $80 plus maybe $60 If we were to rate on a scale 1-10. T-boxes 7 Fairways, 6, were not consistent in length of grass and baron in some areas. Approach areas and greens, 5. Baron and spotty, inconsistent length, and dry dirt areas are unmarked as ground under repair. The greens themselves rolled with a consistent pace at least, but had many hole location changes or purposely added black dirt over the spots, which were many on each green, which could have been miracle grow to heal some bad spots on the greens. All the greens were peppered with these. The course must be in the middle of receiving new carts. To our surprise, these did not have GPS installed no explanation was given and no consideration in price was considered. When you're accustomed to paying for something and then it's not there. The staff has been great and cart personnel try to be accommodating. However, many seem to run out of sandwiches, and most will run back to the snack bar and come back with them. This cart person did this for us and was tipped well for it. The other group with us requested a return trip for food. I guess the wise thing for this person would have been to stock up just in case, upon the first request. This time the cart person returned to us, and was told not to return with more food. We appreciated the courtesy of returning to tell us we couldn't have more food. Not sure if it's a new management thing or they lost their Greens superintendant. So for the time being we will spend our money elsewhere and wait to read reviews as the year progresses before returning. Keep us posted.
