work being done; aeration issue
First time at this course, #2, and layout is fine. Course is under some contruction, so a bit nutty at first hole, which is in the middle of the fairway!!!
Other parts of course can use some work, but overall course is pretty good considering all the rain...
A sign or two would be nice for those cart riders who don't want the cart to yell at you for going the wrong way!
Brad the starter was great, and Enna in the pro shop was very nice, professional and personable!
I don't understand why a golfer cannot check in just a little earlier than 15 minutes prior to tee time. I get the why: cause carts aren't readily available in a large amount. But geez, it's rush, rush rush after you finally check in and tee off at the first hole. Please give a golfer a few more minutes than 15, which is actually about five once you get checked in, get out of the pro shop, load up the cart and get to hole #1....
Look forward to playing again, especially when it is not shortly after aeration has taken place on the greens, which sucks for putting accuracy. Just the luck of the draw, I understand it needs to get done.
Failure to notify the course maintenance
1. The first hole was shortened to 190 yards due to construction.
2. The greens were aerated and sandy. This was not mentioned on GolfNow during the booking. Therefore, the green fees should be reduced.
Greens
My issue is not with the course but rather a suggestion for GolfNow. The aeration of greens should be listed before you are able to book.
Course under construction
Nice scenic layout. Holes 1 and 7 modified due to construction. Hole 1 becomes an almost impossible te shot of under 100 yards over very tall trees on the side of the green. Just call it a warmup and go on from there!!!
Under construction
Nice layout in pretty good shape. Holes 1 and 7 are being
Renovated so much shortened with #1 almost impossible to play over trees!!!
Beautiful Gem
Played EO after the rains. It was a beautiful day and the rain had the course in perfect condition. Greens were rolling smooth, fairways were nice, rough cut to a fair height. Had two holes (1 and 7) playing as par threes due to construction . Had to hit over a tree for #1 and & was straight forward at about 165. Brookside is still an LA Gem.
A fun day on the vourse
Playing on the course was more walking than driving, thr rain caused the fairway to be wet and slow, The course has construction on it making holes #1 and ##7 to be shorter than what it is usually. So with soapy fairway it is cartpath only ! But had a good day to just get the golf bagand practice.
Alternate tees poor conditions
The biggest problem is the construction that has been ongoing for months. There were alternate tees for 2 holes, much shorter than standard, one of which left a nearly impossible pitch over/through the trees to the first green. Greens were generally in good shape. Some fairways had long rough. Bunkers were sometimes raked. Long forced carry over the construction on 18 also. Slope rating from the whites is not accurate due to small, narrow greens, copious bunkering, trees that guard the greens, OB areas next to many holes, and the drainage hazard. In a year it might be okay to play there again.
Pasadena's Finest
Two 18's. I played Koiner (the other is Nay), and thought it was really fine considering the atmospheric rivers we had up to now (3/24). They were getting it ready for the City Championship. Play this before the Rose Bowl uses it for parking (concerts and games). I saw construction (excavation) on the Nay course, so caveat emptor.
Nay Course 3-20-23
The course was in great condition aside from the two holes being renovated. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all well maintained. Pace of play was fantastic. Never had to wait to tee off or hit from the fairway.
Played the Ney course
Probably the last time I play that course. The city of Pasadena decided to make an outdoor stage on the first hole and 18th fairway. They didn’t have any notice and the first hole played 85 yards with 2 trees in front of you. The 7th hole is now playing a par 3 as well. It really made the round sour from the get go. If you can get out on the bigger course that’s great. But I’m not paying weekend rates to play a chopped down course. The par 70 is now par 68. Was pretty lame.
Beware of Course #2 Problems Right Now
Played Brookside Course #2 on Sunday March 5. My advice is to stay away if you care about trying to play a regulation 18 hole golf course. Without any prior warning at time of booking, I arrived to find that they are doing major construction on the fairway of the first hole. The mysterious sign posted at check-in was "Holes #1 and #7 teebox is on #7 fairway". Hard to even understand what that means (especially at 5:50 am in the dark), but basically they have ruined the experience on both holes #1 AND #7 by putting a makeshift tee area on the fairway on #7. So the first hole becomes a weird 80-yard par-3 (who knows?) with a large tree directly in the line towards the green, and #7 also becomes shortened to a 160-yard whatever hole. They just don't seem to care about the golf experience for those who want to play course #2 right now. Oh well. The rest of the holes seemed ok. Some greens were oddly unfair with putts that would literally go in full reverse after being putted up the slope and back down to your feet. I wasted a couple hours this morning before I just walked off and decided that it wasn't worth the time, so hope this helps anyone out there. Call the pro shop and find out what the situation is before you play if you must.
