Great course
A fun and challenging golf course
Disgusted Father
Course is great for young kids but facility doesn't seem to want them there. I used to take my three boys, ages 13, 7, & 5, there to play but WILL NOT be playing there EVER again. It was not a busy day there and they wanted me to pay full price for my 5 year old to play. Upon hearing that I decided he just wouldn't play that day. He is 5 yrs old and probably would have played a total of 7-8 holes. I totally understand having to pay for a 13 yr old and maybe a 7 yr old and do not have a problem doing so. Once I decide that he wouldn't play I was made to pay a 5 dollar spectator fee for him to ride in the cart with me. I take my little guy with me to play almost every time, he thoroughly enjoys it. Most golf course are thrilled to see a little kid out playing. In fact places like Legendary Run, The Vineyards, Elks Run, Shaker and many others are more than happy to let him play for free. Some of the superintendents even come out, on slow days, to watch him play 1or 2 holes. These course realize young kids are vital for the progress of golf and crucial for the financial sustainability of their golf courses.
Great Course
The course is out of the way for us, but we decided to play it anyways.
It was a very nice course. It was very soggy when we played, but we still got through the round, cart path only, in 3:45. Played fast. A tough, tough course. Not long at all from the Blue Tees, when they say being able to move the ball helps, they aren't kidding. There are some tough shots, but nothing that was unfair.
My brothers and I had a lot of fun and would definitely play again. Employees were friendly and didn't rush us.
Worth the drive/ price.
PROS : Course in great condition this past weekend. Greens are in wonderful shape. Not busy at all equals speedy OR relaxing round. Concrete cart paths are smooth and newer. 4 tee boxes for all skill levels. No condos nor houses around (except on the first hole ! Coolers allowed.... Price is right for this "feel good" course. Birdies and eagles are readily available for the average player.
CONS : SandLESS bunkers w/weeds and cracking hard pan make them unplayable..(free drop). Biting black flies were relentless at times..(bring repellant ).clubhouse concession offerings were quite under par. (Pack a sandwich )
OVERALL we enjoyed playing here even though some of the holes were a bit quirky... BUT the price was right...We will return as the fairways and green were in great condition!! I do wish the bunkers had sand as that is a challenging aspect of golf.
KUDOS to the groundskeeper.... (Now press the owners to buy some sand please!!)
Nice course
Links type of set up with no traps with sand. The course it set up well especially for senior players.
Nice course
This was a nice course, but not much of a place to sit and have a drink or get good. The clubhouse was not situated at the turn, instead it was after hole 10 headin to 11.
There were a lot of blind tee boxes, which made it hard to see where your ball landed unless you had another group or person spotting you from another location. Also hard to tell which direction a lot of holes were going unless you pulled out the book they give you.
Great layout, fast undulating greens, nice relaxing views
Very challenging coarse with excellent greens , some of the best I've ever played. It's not a long coarse but it's still challenging , nice little coarse off the beaten path of your normal coarses with great views. I will be making another trip back to play it again.
Great value
Nice corse for the value the condition was good despite all of the rain we had last week. Over six inch in the preceding 4 days
well hidden in a country setting
I did not expect to see such a nice challenging course as far away from home as it was. Fall weather with the leaves falling were no problem because they had the course very clean and we did not have to look for balls, which made the play time very reasonable.
Love it
A great place to play golf, very good condition I would recommend the course to my friends.
Great find!
Booked 18 holes for myself and a pal through Golfnow.com. Great value and we enjoyed the course very much. Front 9 pretty open with some water. Back 9 tighter and a bit more strategy needed. Course in good condition and the employees treated us like family. We'll be back for sure.
Great day in the country!
My eldest son and I really enjoyed our afternoon at Colonial Pines. We nearly had the course to ourselves on a sunny Wednesday afternoon and finished 18 in just under 3.5 hours! Bit of a quirky layout with numerous blind shots, super greens and friendly staff. Lost a few into the bordering woods but that's nothing new. Overall a fantastic value!
Excellent value
Played 18 holes for $20 when I booked my tee time online ahead of time
Colonial Pines
It was nice to play a course that kept the rough cut down so you could find your ball if you missed the fairway (there are a few places with tall grass but you really have to miss to hit most of them). If it had not been so hot it would have been a much more pleasant experience as there are few trees on the course other than on the edges. Overall the course is improving each year and I will go back again next year if it is possible. It is to far of a drive to go play regularly.
Fun, Quirky Course
The staff of the facility was outstanding. Tom gave me a great history of the course. Very interesting.
I was given a course guide which was indispensable for me as a first time player at Colonial Pines. This is a course for which course knowledge is a huge advantage. The course guide was very well written and allowed me to enjoy my first go round at CP.
It's neat little course which doesn't require long drives to enjoy and score. Plenty of trouble awaits the wayward dive.
Holes 15-17 are all very short and almost reachable par 4s. I had a blast playing them.
It was worth the drive out. I'll be back again.
Quiet Course as Advertised
A friend from out of town and I were trying to squeeze in 18 on short notice. I live in the Cold Spring, KY area and none of the local courses had available tee times via the GolfNow app (admittedly I've become a bit of a slave to it for picking where to play since I downloaded it around 7/4) but was able to find Colonial Pines for a 10am tee time. A bit out of the way just south of Bethel, OH, I wish I knew about the course while I was growing up in Amelia, would've been brand new when I was in high school. The course is set on what appears to be an old farm/plantation-type layout. The split rail fence and long driveway that is also used by carts leads passed the farm house in the center of the course to the clubhouse to the left. The front nine is very flat an open with few trees on a majority of the holes with links-style rolling knolls between the fairways with very high rough on top. Very few pins can be seen from the tees due to a combination of slight elevation change or dog-legs. A course booklet is provided when you pick up your scorecard, highly recommended if you've not played the course before. The front nine finishes strong with a long, intricate par 5 8th and intimidating par 3 9th ~150 yards over water to a peninsular green near the road. Uniquely, the tenth tee precedes passing the club house for the turn. The first few holes on the back nine mirror those of the front, long dog legs curl left or right, though with noticeably less margin for error either left or right on most holes as more trees come into play. The par 4 15th tees to a near-drivable green shrouded by trees which starts the wooded finish to the course. This hole is only a prelude to the par 4 16th, another ~260 yard green only reached with a precise drive through a lane of trees maybe 75 yards wide, playing the ~30 degree right to left slope of the hillside. Similar tee shot on the still narrow, slightly longer but flat par 4 17th, leading to the daunting blind tee on the par 4 18th that requires a sharp fade or 200yd iron layup to the 90 deg dogleg left. Too long off the tee ends up in the pond behind the clubhouse.
We played on a day where the parking lot would have indicated they were pretty busy and the very helpful desk clerk noted that they had a family reunion on the course that had finish teeing off only an hour before we started. However, between the hills or trees and subtle elevation changes throughout the course and the non-existent road sounds, most of the time it felt like we were the only pair on the course. The course style paired with an unseasonable cool overcast morning suggested anything but a Cincinnati suburb for the location of this course.
Overall, a well kept, peaceful, friendly golf course. Can't wait to play it again some time.
The front nine set you up for the back nine
The course is tight but challenging. You have to control your game or you can make it harder than it really is.
If you play within your game, the front nine is great with sufficient hazards to keep you honest.
The back nine, especially the last 5, are a real challenge and you need to know your irons and distances if you hope to par any of them.
Just the right mix of challenge and distance.
Great Value, Worth the Drive!
Been going to this course for a couple of years now. It takes an hour to reach from my home on the West side of Cincinnati. Tee boxes and greens are in fantastic shape. Fairways seem to be cut too short or too early, leading to brown fairways. Front 9 is very forgiving. Would recommend letting the roughs grow another inch to make them actually challenging. I Love # 16, a short par 4 that DARES you to drive for the green (* see tips). The hot dogs are the best I've had at a golf course. Don't ever get rid of them. The only complaint I have is that I have to burn a quarter tank of gas to get there. However, the drive is great.
Enjoyable round at Colonial Pines
Colonial Pines is a good course with some nice holes and one not so nice hole.
The greens are in very good shape. The fairways are rapidly drying out, which makes for a some long drives but unless the area gets some rain very soon hitting out of the fairway will be like hitting off of hardpan.
I do not enjoy playing hole # 16 - it is an elevated tee to a fairway that slopes severely from right to left, making it very difficult to keep the ball in play. The green is very fast and small, so you must try to land softly on it or your ball could be lost.
The major plus is the scenery and lack of houses - it's a country course.
Overall I recommend the course.
Best I've seen the Pines look
Greens and overall course condition was as good as I've ever seen it. Ground other than the greens was pretty hard even after the recent rain. But for $20 I'll be back again. Great confidence builder course
