National Golf Links in South Charleston is a links-style layout that has a distinctly European feel. The beautiful setting of rolling hills sprinkled with tranquil ponds and meandering creeks adds to the course's unique character. Originally opened as a nine-hole course in 1995, a second nine was added five years later, extending the golf course to 7,200 yards from the championship tees. Many of the holes are open, subjected to prevailing winds, but there are also several narrow holes as well. The layout features lush, rolling fairways and large, undulating greens that are framed by strategically placed bunkers. Water hazards also come into play several times throughout the golf course. In addition to the championship layout, there is also a driving range and a practice green with a bunker available.

Hidden Gem in Central Ohio

A hidden gem that was a very pleasant surprise. I new nothing of the course designer or course when I played, but I am glad I did.

Course had nice hilly terrain with modern greens and just enough strategic bunkering. The course even has some quirk with a few blind holes.

Great place in between two major highways.

Liked the layout, interesting location being between I70 and US40 (if you're really picky about noises during your swing it may not be the best place for you.) Great staff and good course conditions. Would definitely play again just to get another crack at the front 9.

Solid Course, Even for October

Taking I-70 by this course frequently, I've wondered for a while how good this course actually is. Finally got the chance to play it and it was surprisingly good. The greens and tee boxes had been punched recently (it's the middle of October, kind of expected by now), but the fairways were still rolling very well. Bunkers had plenty of sand in them. Leaves weren't a problem, except for a couple of spots.

Layout has plenty of undulation to it, including a couple of blind shots (the second shots on 9 and 18 come to mind). Course has a couple of excellent holes that really make you think, including the risk-reward par 5, 3rd hole. But there are some holes that are very generic and feel little out of place with the rest of the layout. The wind can play a big factor on the course, and it was howling making some holes extremely tough.

My one issue here is that the course is too long for many amateurs. The gold tees should be the whites white tees should be the blues, the blues should be the championship one. I had to play from the golds because 6,600 yards is just too long for my game. An intermediate set of tees at about 5,600 could be of benefit here.

Overall, very good course, hope it's even better in peak season

Golf Trip

A long course, but easy to get around. Well kept and the heather areas are there. You could loose several ball if you don't stay close to the fairways. Sand bunkers throughout the course. The greens are a little slow, but like most course, you don't want the same thing, fast, fast. It make it changeable. You can look right at most greens, but there are some doglegs on the course, along with water.
You are right off Interstate 70 East Bound, exit 62.
The staff, we had tee time, got there early and was given the okay to start early.

Worth The Stop

Having driven past the course several times on I-70 I finally got the chance to stop in and play and I'm glad I did.

The course has a fun mix of holes and some elevation change. Greens rolled true and were not too big or too small. You are close to the highway on a few holes, but you'll need a big leftward miss to hit it.

There is nothing else near the course so take a few drinks. Seems like locals and seniors play it a lot, and it did run a little slow in pace at spots. But if you're driving through on I-70, it's worth the time to play!

Great Course - a lot of fun

I love this course. SInce it was a weekend it was a bit higher price than I am used to paying - but I'm cheap. I love this course, it's a lot of fun and there are some challenging and fun holes. Since it's a links course, the rough is THICK but that's what makes it tough. The sand traps could have used a little TLC but so it goes.

I will definitely play this course again, especially when there are deals through Golf Now

Scary tee shots

Not quite great, but well maintained. A lot of scary drives. Sits pretty close to the highway so it makes talking during 2-3 holes kind of hard. Otherwise enjoyable.

This course has challenging for any skill level.

I liked the different types of holes the course has to offer. Lots of hills and valleys to go with the average holes.
